A/N: Here's the next chapter of Miracle. It's a small one, but it's been a while since I've updated and I wanted to give you guys something..

XX

In the next few weeks the hospital became home for Sam and Andy. A week after she hold Jesse for the first time, Andy was discharged. She didn't go very far though, because she started to live in the family room next to the NICU.

Sam stayed with her as much as he could, but after another week he had to go back to work part time. He had told Frank that he wanted to stay at home when Jesse was allowed to come home. Andy was still walking with crutches, so she couldn't take care of Jesse by herself.

Andy only went home sometimes to check the mail, use their own shower and get a change of clothing. All their friends visited Jesse over the weeks too.

Every day Jesse became a bit little stronger and a little bit bigger. First his oxygen came off. Later he was finally able to drink, so his tube could come out. Then he didn't need the incubator anymore. He was moved to the normal pediatrics floor after that.

He was still on the small side, but besides that there wasn't any sign that showed that he had had a rough start. He looked like a normal newborn and acted like one too. Overall he was a pretty satisfied baby. He only cried when he needed a diaper change or needed to be fed.

Andy was sitting next to Jesse's crib with Jesse on her arm when the doctors came in. They came every day around that hour, so Andy wasn't surprised when she saw all the white coats in the room.

''Mrs. Swarek,'' Jesse's doctor started. ''How is he doing today?''

''He's great,'' Andy smiled. ''We weighed him this morning and he gained weight again. He's drinking really good too.''

''That's good to hear,'' the doctor said. She looked at her colleague and nodded. ''We decided that you can take him home today.''

''What?'' Andy asked. ''They said that he was suppose to be here for at least another week.''

''We always keep a bigger time frame in mind, just so the parents don't get disappointed. Jesse is doing really good though and he's ready to go home. For the first few weeks you'll have weekly check-up's and in the future we would like to see him a little bit more than normal too, but for now we have no reason to believe that he won't live a normal life.''

Andy looked at her son and rocked him. She sniffed and pressed a kiss to his forehead. ''You're coming home buddy,'' she whispered.

''Of course there is some paperwork that you need to sign and there are a few information brochures that you'll need to read,'' the doctor continued. ''I expect that you can take him home by the end of the afternoon.''

''Thank you,'' Andy said. Normally she would stand up, but since she was holding Jesse she couldn't do that. Her leg was still bothering her more than she was willing to admit and she wasn't allowed to put any weight on it just yet. ''Thank you so much.''

''You're welcome,'' the doctor answered. ''But remember, you and your husband did a big part for yourselves. You should be proud.''

''We are,'' Andy said. ''Trust me, we are.''

As soon as the doctors left Andy prepped Jesse's face with a lot of small kisses. After that she carefully placed him in his crib and went outside to call Sam. She knew that he hated working while Jesse was in the hospital, but because he wasn't in immediate danger anymore Sam had to go back to work.

He always had his phone on him though, so Andy wasn't surprised when Sam picked up after just the first ring. ''Hey,'' he said. ''What's up?''

Andy closed her eyes and swallowed. Over the weeks they had gone through an emotional rollercoaster. It was finally coming to an end though. They would finally get their chance to be a real family. ''The doctors just did their rounds.''

Obviously the emotion in her voice was audible. ''What's wrong?'' Sam asked immediately. ''I'll be there as soon as I can.''

''Sam,'' Andy interrupted. ''He's fine, okay? He's perfect.'' She swallowed again and a smile formed on her lips as she spoke those words that she wanted to say for so long. ''We get to take him home today.''

''What?'' Sam asked. ''Are you serious?''

''They said that he's doing really good. We'll get extra check-up's, but there's no reason to keep him here.''

''I'll be there as soon as I can,'' Sam promised. ''I'll tell Frank that he'll have to do without me for a while.''

Andy smiled. ''Just drive carefully,'' she warned. ''It will be a few hours before we get to take him home. They needed to fill in some paperwork that we have to sign.''

''I know. Be there soon.''

True to his word Sam arrived just forty minutes later. He first gently kissed Jesse's forehead and then leaned in to kiss Andy. The kiss they shared lasted longer than any other kiss they had shared over the weeks.

Seeing Sam like this made Andy tear up again, but this time it were happy tears. ''Our boy's coming home,'' she whispered against Sam's lips. ''And he's okay.''

''He's our son,'' Sam said. ''He's perfect.''

Andy was fed up with all the tears she had shed. She quickly whipped them away and put a smile on her face. ''We don't even have his room ready yet,'' she complained. ''I mean, I know that we haven't really had time for it, but still..''

''It will be fine,'' Sam promised. ''We'll just put him in his crib in our room. We'll take care of the nursery later. We already have all the furniture, we just need to put it together.''

''And make the room more cozy. We should really make something special for him, don't you think?''

''Whatever you want,'' Sam answered. ''But first we're going to take him home and enjoy the fact that we have some time for ourselves.''

''Was Frank mad that you had to leave again?'' Andy wondered. ''He's probably going crazy. I went on maternity leave seven weeks early and now he's down one detective too.''

''Frank has a family, he understands,'' Sam said. ''Besides, you can't be alone with him as long as you're walking with those crutches. And I think that everybody agrees that we deserve some time off with each other.''

''That's true,'' Andy said. She took her crutches and stood up. When Sam shot her a concerned look she gave him a reassuring smile. She slowly walked over to Jesse's crib and lowered the bedrails. ''He really looks like you,'' Andy commented as she ran her finger over Jesse's face.

''I think he looks like you,'' Sam argued. ''He sleeps like the dead too.''

Andy smiled and nodded. ''Yeah, he definitely values his sleep. Let's just hope he'll keep that up after we take him home.''

It took a while before all the papers were ready, but when it was done they signed everything they needed to sign and then were allowed to take their son home. Sam had already put the car seat in the truck, just to be sure.

When Jesse was strapped in, Sam gently lifted the car seat into his arms. He was carrying the car seat as if it was the most valuable thing in the world, to him it was. Andy proudly stood next to her husband as she watched him and their son together. As soon as they were ready they gave each other a small nod.

''Can we go by the NICU?" Andy asked. ''I want to see if Amanda's working.''

''You really shouldn't be walking any more than you have to,'' Sam argued. He had first tried to get Andy to get into a wheelchair, but that was a lost battle. Since she was able to walk she didn't want to get back into that wheelchair ever again.

''I'm good,'' Andy said again. ''My physical therapist told me that it's good to train. It makes me stronger and I need it. I want to get rid of that stupid brace.''

''I'm pretty sure he also told you not to overdo it,'' Sam tried. When he saw the look on his wife's face he knew it was false effort. ''But if you think you can handle it..''

''I know I can,'' Andy said with a confident smile. ''Nothing is getting me down today. This is a good day.''

Sam couldn't help but agree with that one. ''It is.''

They were lucky and told that Amanda was indeed working. Over the weeks she had been Jesse's primary nurse and both Sam as Andy were really thankful. Every time they had a bad day, Amanda was there to listen. Every time either of them was insecure, Amanda told them that they were doing great. Most of all she was really great with Jesse though. She handled the tiny baby with so much love and care. They couldn't leave the hospital without thanking her.

Amanda was happy to watch them go. Not because she didn't like them, but because it was time for them to start being a normal family.

As soon as they said goodbye to Amanda they went to the truck. Sam made sure that Jesse was safe in his seat while Andy watched them from the passenger seat.

When he was 100% sure that Jesse was safe, Sam took his place behind the steering wheel. He quickly laid his hand down on top of Andy's and gave it a small squeeze. ''You okay?'' he asked. The last time she and Jesse were in the truck didn't end too well after all.

''I'm good,'' Andy promised.

When they reached the house Andy looked at the window. She saw a 'Welcome Home' banner in front of the window and sighed.

She loved all of her friends, she did. She really wished that they would have this moment for just the three of them though. She was more than willing to show off Jesse, but in that moment she wasn't ready for a big group of people.

Thankfully Sam knew her better than anybody else and he saw her apprehensive attitude. ''Nobody's inside,'' he promised. ''Nash asked me if they could hang up some welcome home stuff. They understand that it has to be just the three of us tonight.''

Andy let out a relieved breath and carefully got out of the car. Sam handed her the crutches and made sure that she was steady on her feet. When Andy gave him a confirmative nod Sam turned his attention back to Jesse.

Their little boy was sleeping peacefully in the car seat that made him look even smaller than he was. With care Sam lifted him out of the car and together they walked towards their home.

Inside the house there were a few blue balloons, another welcome home sign and a note from all their friends. Andy picked up the note and read it out loud to Sam.

''Dear Sam, Andy and Jesse,'' she started.

Welcome home.

We all know that the last couple of weeks haven't been easy on the three of you, but we're so happy that you're all doing better now. We wanted to do something for you so we hope you like what we did to the place. Dinner is on the stove, so you don't have to worry about that for tonight.

Everybody chipped in to make a nice room for Jesse. We hope you like it and if you don't we'll be more than happy to help you change it.

Enjoy your first night together.

Love,

Your family from 15th

''Room for Jesse?'' Andy asked, slightly overwhelmed by everything.

''I don't know anything about that,'' Sam answered. He had Jesse on his arm and looked at the little boy. ''They only asked me about the balloons and other decorations.''

Andy looked at the stairs and walked towards it. When she reached it she slowly started to walk upstairs. She wasn't as fast as she wanted to be, but she was determined to reach her goal. She heard Sam following behind her and when they reached the nursery they both let out a little gasp.

''Wow,'' Andy said. ''It's so beautiful. Exactly the way I pictured it.''

Sam smiled and looked at Jesse who was cradled against his chest. ''What do you say buddy? You like it?''

The room was painted in soft colours. There were bookshelves on the wall and there already were some books on it. The changing table was standing against the wall with diapers in the drawers and lotions on top of it.

There was a closet and when Andy opened it she saw that there were lots of baby clothes neatly folded. The crib was standing by the window and above it there was writing on the wall saying 'Sometimes dreams come true..'

Sam wrapped his free arm around Andy as they took in the room. ''You like it?'' he asked. ''This is probably Nash' doing if this is exactly how you pictured it.''

''It is,'' Andy agreed. ''I talked to her about this a hundred times. I can't believe that they got this done in so little time.''

''If everybody chipped in than they had a lot of hands,'' Sam said.

''We have the best friends,'' Andy said as she looked at Jesse in Sam's arm. She pressed a kiss to his tiny fist and then kissed Sam. ''They're the best.''
