Author Notes: I don't do drabbles normally, but this bit me in the middle of the night, I must ask do you guys think Felicity and Oliver will get together soon, and break up, or later like season five and stay together, or will they go for the most tragic and perhaps kills her off later? This what usual happens in shows if they get together too soon you'll can be sure they are breaking up or dying, if it is late and they have enough build up, well it might go smoothly.
A Moment:
I love you I just can't be with you
The thought lingers in the back for awhile. He once thought it was for Laurel, he was too busy saving the city, to really dwell on the words and who they were for.
But then he remembered staring at her, from across the desk. She needed an answer despite trying to have brushed it off, he could see it in her face. She had to know, whether it was part of natural curiosity for answers or the feelings she carried for him, he was not sure. He was sure that little sadden look of disappointment, was too much to bare, so he gave her the round around about truth, but those words were back. ".. I think it's just better not to be with someone I really could care about."
"I think you deserve better than her," with that she had walked away and those words they were back.
I love you I just can't be with you
And then she was tied up in a chair, frightened, about to die. He just could not risk it, if she died, there was no way around it. He let the arrows fly in the air into his target with heart pumping in fear and dread. He knew he had to do it.
He broke his vow.
Though he was not happy to take a life, this one of the few things he would regret in life. He had enough of those.
And then she apologized. He looked her in the eyes, he gently caressed her face. He told her the truth, "There was no choice." She smiled, that beautiful smile he was being so accustomed to. Something he missed the second time around the island, despite the decision he made to stay.
And those words came back.
I love you. I can't just be with you.
There was no doubt who those words were for, would always be for. There was nothing he can do about it. He need her more as a partner and friend, than a lover, not to mention his track record, he just...if he was honest with himself, she deserved better. They would never work, despite that she was always there for him, she could never let her in, he could not let in anybody, not even Sara who knew of his world, but he without a doubt he could not let her in. He would never break the most important person in his life.
So he would let her go.
He never admit it to anyone but he had been jealous when Diggle told him that Felicity was smitten with Barry. So of course when he did the background check, it had more than one motive. But most important one was to keep her safe, but she did point out the obvious and he felt guilt.
They had stood in the grand ball room and he was worried about his mother as well. But he wanted to make amends with the other most important woman in his life. "So how about a dance?" He looked over to her and was not surprise with her answer but it still was disappointing.
"I don't feel like dancing with you,"
"I know," He answered and showed her Barry all dressed up. He watched the two of them on the floor for awhile. She looked so beautiful in her pink dress, it was so her too. It was bright, it made her stand out, yet gracefully modest, she was breathtaking. He could not keep his off of her, but he would have to, even as she smiled he would have to stop watching.
I love but I can't be with you.
Despite the decision he made never to be with her. If he were honest he secretly hoped that one day he changed his mind, and he can say:
I love you, I want to be with you.
It hasn't yet, and she won't wait, but if it ever does come. He'll fight like he was on the island again,
