(I don't own Shingeki no Kyojin. It's been forever. ;A; I'm sorry. I'm a horrible person for this.)
After Halloween came Thanksgiving for the trio. Mikasa and Levi were on extremely good terms, and there's no question to the terms Levi and Eren were on. Life seemed perfect at that time, and everything was wonderful.
But all that had gone straight out the window in the blink of an eye.
Eren had been jogging outside, in the brisk cold, headphones on his ears. It was evening, as well as it was getting dark. The streets had cleared, for people wanted to sleep about this hour. Eren was a different case; he was afraid of getting out of shape.
Jogging to the beat of the song that was currently playing, he looked right and left, jogging in place at the street corner, and began to jog across.
That was short lived, though. A car came screeching around the corner, and swerving all over the road.
Poor Eren had his music up too loud, and didn't see the car.
All he saw was a flash of slight, and it felt like his body had been torn to pieces before everything went black.
"WHAT?!" Levi shouted, voice cracking. His protective walls he kept around himself to keep others out nearly fell as he heard the news from an uncontrollably sobbing Mikasa.
"H-he's... in the hospital r-right now. Someone... had s-seen the accident, b-but the driver drove away..." Mikasa, he could tell, was trying to stifle her sobs. Surprising he could, because it felt like everything had gone numb for him.
He didn't notice the stares he was getting, especially since he had done something out of the ordinary. In the middle of class as well.
"Is there something wrong, Mr. Levi?" Their teacher, Mr. Pixis, questioned him.
"Yes. There is something wrong. Everythings wrong right now. I need to leave." Levi replied hurriedly, picking up his stuff and making his way out the door, nearly on the brink of tears.
Mr. Pixis didn't stop him.
Whatever tears could have gathered in his eyes were blinked away, because he knew he had to be strong. He was strong when he was around his uncaring mother, when he came to a new country, so hearing about a friend getting in an accident shouldn't be enough to make him completely lose himself.
Yet he nearly did.
He was still on the phone with Mikasa, who brushed off everything she'd heard as she told him where the hospital was, and which room Eren was staying in, but he wouldn't be in there yet, since he was undergoing surgery even now.
"It happened last night... and, and... he's still not okay." Overhearing her trying to calm herself, he decided to do the same. He wasted no time going to his car, and starting it up.
"I'll be there as soon as I can get there. I'll talk to you then." He said his goodbyes, and hearing a small mutter of confirmation and a little 'goodbye', he pushed the hang up button and shoved his phone in his pockets.
'Just wait for me, Eren.'
When Levi arrived, he spotted Mikasa immediately and rushed over to her. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she hadn't stopped crying. So he did what he found comforted Eren whenever he was scared or upset. Mainly from thunderstorms.
He wrapped his arms around her comfortingly, and she buried her face into his shoulder. After what felt like forever, one of the surgeons came out, and Levi dreaded the news.
"Mikasa Ackerman?" He asked for confirmation, in which she nodded. "That's me."
He pulled down his mask after discarding his gloves. "Your brother will be fine. The surgery was a success, but he might be in the hospital for a while."
"So he'll live...?" Asked the two in union, to which the surgeon nodded, and offered a slight smile. "It could have been worse, to be honest."
Levi felt something wet drip down his cheek as he sighed shakily in relief. Eren was going to be okay. The surgeon left them to gather their thoughts.
"Levi, you're crying." Said male's expression hardened as he realized the liquid on his cheeks were, indeed, tears.
"... I know." He responded, a lie.
Mikasa, who had tears on her own face, giggled giddily as she hugged Levi in relief. Levi hesitated, before hugging back.
This time, she cried tears of relief, and at the time, so did he.
It was a while before they let the two go into Eren's bedroom. When they did, Levi held his breath, and Mikasa gasped as she looked at Eren. There was an IV in his arm, as well as an oxygen mask.
Eren's face was deathly pale compared to his sunkissed skin previously, and his beautiful ocean colored eyes were closed, long lashes resting on his cheeks, as he slept peacefully.
There were, of course, a few scratches and cuts marring his face, but otherwise, he was just as beautiful as he usually was.
This was coming from Levi's mind, and he really wants to stop but he can't bring himself to.
The male turned his head, expression as apathetic as it usually was when he looked on at Mikasa's expression. She was giving her death glare toward Eren.
"What's the matter?"
"I'm going to KILL whoever did this to him."
"You really care about him, huh." It wasn't a question; Levi was making a statement.
Her gaze softened before she closed her eyes, sighing, and nodding. "I just wish he wouldn't push me away as much."
"As if the brat hadn't been through enough already." Levi muttered.
"He told you?"
"Yep."
"I see. And you told him about yourself?"
"If you want to know, ask him. I've told the story twice, and I don't feel up to repeating it a third time." He stated with a monotone voice.
"Mmh." She muttered a response.
And the two didn't leave the room until Levi had to go home.
(I'm horrible.)
