Burning In the Skies: Linkin Park

Alex sighed as he trudged through the empty parking lot, behind him a supermarket up in flames. It had been a simple trip to the market, to buy some milk since the last one he had bought went to waste and expired while he was on a mission. Not five minutes after entering, the place was overtook by robbers. They cleaned the registers out, and fired shots at anyone who wouldn't listen. Too bad he had left his gun on his bedside table.
Well, as he was planning an escape, his best friend Tom, came practically out of nowhere. Stating that his mother had sent him up here for some bread. Alex had shook his head at the inconvenient time Tom had shown up, but demanded that he stay there, and Alex would be back for him soon.
And stayed there Tom did, trusting his friend with his life.
Alex walked out of that store without his purchased milk, and no best friend following him like a puppy. Instead he walked out with soot covering his body, and a nasty burn on his hand. Collapsing to the concrete, Alex let the silent tears run down his face as he ran his good hand through his black hair. Glancing up, he saw the firemen there, watering down the engulfing flames.
Smoke rose up to the sky, and vanished into the clouds. Standing up, Alex noticed the small flakes of ash from the fire. Sighing, he made the decision to go to the nearest market, and purchase a loaf of bread. He would then make his way over to Tom's house, and on the walk over he would think of an explanation to tell his mother exactly why Alex had failed to save her son from the falling debris.
an: I've been in the writing mood as of late and am going to post these as I finish them. I thank you all for reading, and leaving reviews. I'll try to make them longer, but we'll see how it goes.
For the ones still reading Coincidence, or waiting for an update; I have news. After reading it over, and cringing as I did so I've decided that I am going to start over, and hopefully I can knock It out in a few weeks and start posting chapters. However I am starting a new semester of college, but I'll be sure to keep writing. Thank you. :)
