(A/N): Hey guys! It's been FOREVER since I've updated, and for that I apologize. I hope you've all had a fantastic 2014 thus far? I haven't been able to update as I have had some writer's block and been very busy. My band has started playing some shows this month, I've had school, and I've been busy with youth group and friend activities - but now, I present to you another chapter. You're welcome. ;P
There is *minor cussing in this chapter, I thought I should warn. Personally, I do not cuss, but there is one use of "bloody" as it seemed fitting for the line and emotion.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything you recognize, at least not of which I am aware. Tarry on.
And now I present to you, drum roll please, the second installment of "Tired of Waiting" :)
"Lucy! Wake up, we're here," Tam said, poking the sleeping girl lightly.
Lucy stirred, and her eyes fluttered open in confusion.
"Tam?" she asked groggily, "...Oh yeah..."
"We're at the hotel," he said, opening his car door. The small vehicle was immediately illuminated by a somewhat dim set of old interior car lights. Lucy rubbed her eyes softly, before unbuckling her seat belt and hopping out of the car. She shivered as a cool summer night's breeze tickled the bare skin of her arms.
Tam shut the car door, offering Lucy her bag, which she hoisted around her shoulder weakly.
"You can go on inside," he said, nodding his head toward the front entrance to the hotel, "I'm just getting my things."
Lucy yawned and walked slowly toward the door, which startled her when it automatically flew open. She stumbled through the entrance and heard a cough to the left, causing her to yank her attention to the service desk.
"I'm sorry, miss. There's no vacancy," said a young man, whilst wiping the counter of the desk. "I'm just closing the desk, actually."
"I've got a reservation." She said with a tired smile.
"Oh, uh... name?" he asked, moving the computer mouse in order to wake it.
"Farrel." She heard from behind her.
Lucy rolled her eyes. Tam seemed to enjoy startling her.
The man tapped on the keyboard, and clicked a few times.
"Room 319," he said, pulling out a room key.
Tam took the key, and ushered Lucy to an elevator.
"You'd better be crossing your fingers for two beds, Farrel."
Tam laughed lightly, pressing a small black green-lined button that had "305- 359" printed on it.
The two stood there in something of an awkward silence for around a minute, before they heard a loud "ding!" from the elevator, and watched as the door slowly slid open.
The two walked only a few seconds before finding their room.
"Where's Gwendolen?" asked Tam, unlocking the door.
"I left her at home - she's safer there." Lucy said, scratching her neck.
Tam switched on the lights and his demeanor immediately went from tired yet happy, to disappointed.
Lucy glanced at a sign on the back of the door that read
"Couple's Suite"
Lucy cringed, knowing that a couple's suite wasn't likely to have two beds.
"Is there a couch?" she asked, afraid of looking for herself.
"Yeah, thank goodness," Tam replied, "I'll take it - you can have the bed."
"That's not necessary, Tam. You're the one who's paying!"
"Yes, and you're a lady. Have the bed, no arguments."
Lucy walked to the bathroom, excited to shower and change into clean garments.
Several minutes and one shower later, disappointment flooded her.
"Oh, of course! How wonderful," Lucy said, sarcasm dripping from her voice.
Tam glanced toward the door curiously, "Lucy, what's up?"
Silence fell for a moment, before a quiet answer was heard, "I haven't any clean clothes..."
Tam laughed and shook his head, before standing up and going to his suitcase. He pulled out a pair of grey cotton or 'sweat' pants, and a light blue t-shirt.
He knocked on the bathroom door, and Lucy said, "Look away."
"Of course," he replied, averting his gaze to the floor behind him.
The bathroom door opened with a click, and he felt the garments being lifted from his hand.
"Thank you," Lucy said, before shutting the door hastily.
Tam stood at the door for a moment, staring at the door that had been shut in his face before trudging back over to his suitcase and finding some clothes for himself.
The bathroom door opened and Tam looked up, rather shocked at what he found.
Seeing her cleaned up, no longer hosting greased-hair and dirt smudges on her face, Tam could tell that Lucy had very much matured since they had last been in each other's company over a year ago.
Her long, red hair was damp, and her face looked soft. Her bright green eyes glimmered in the dim light, and Tam couldn't help but find her adorable as her petite body nearly swam in his clothing. He was much taller than she, with a well built frame.
She cleared her throat, growing uncomfortable due to his gaze that seemed to be glued to her.
"I'm so sorry," he said, looking away, "erm... I set a few quarters on the counter in the kitchenette. You can use them to wash your laundry in the hotel's guest washing machine."
"Thanks" Lucy mumbled, swiftly leaving the area and grabbing her bag, stopping by the kitchenette and then exiting the room.
- the next morning, 10:00am -
"Lucy, I'm going to go get brunch in an hour, want to get ready?"
Lucy rolled over in her bed, and Tam shamelessly admired Lucy's features in their state of peaceful rest.
"mmhmm," she mumbled, stretching slowly, "I'm up..."
Rolling his eyes, Tam stood up and made his way to the kitchenette where he had brewed a pot of coffee.
"Want some coffee?" He asked, grabbing two mugs from a small cupboard.
"Yes, please."
"Feel better?"
"Do I ever," Lucy said, pulling a hoodie Tam had lent her over her head, "I haven't slept like that in a month."
"a month?"
"I ran away a month ago, yes."
Tam shook his head as a look of frustration crossed his face.
"Lucy, I honestly can't believe you're still alive."
"Can't you? I was kidnapped by a sibyl and forced to survive in a bloody cave in the arctic for months! I think the streets of Massachusetts are more feasible to survive in. "
Tam laughed and turned around, pouring the coffee into the two mugs.
"there are more thugs in Massachusetts," Tam pointed.
"There were more polar bears in the arctic," Lucy countered.
"Touché."
Lucy looked around the room as Tam studied her face. The room was enveloped in an unsettling silence.
"Sugar in your coffee?" Tam said, breaking the silence.
"I can get it," Lucy smiled, pulling two packets of sugar from the basket beside the coffee pot.
"You like it dark?" Tam asked, as Lucy raised the hot drink to her lips.
"I've had bad experience with cream in mine," she laughed.
Tam laughed along, their voices echoing throughout the large room.
Lucy placed her half-consumed cup of coffee onto the counter next to the sink before padding off toward a pile of unfolded laundry that sat on the floor in front of the king sized bed.
"I should get ready," she giggled.
'Really?' she thought, 'did I honestly just giggle at Tam?"
Tam smiled at the blush that crept onto Lucy's face as she left the room before turning to the sink and washing the two coffee mugs.
His head snapped to the bathroom doorway when he heard a clattering as the door opened.
Spitting out a few colorful words, he quickly walked toward the red mane that was now strewn across the floor.
"ouch..." Lucy muttered.
"What on earth did you do?" Tam asked, trying to suppress a laugh.
"See, the hair-dryer fell out of its rack when I turned off the light," Lucy looked down, embarrassed.
"...And?"
"I tripped on the cord." She squeaked.
"I would laugh but I don't think now is the time," Tam said with a sly grin, "come on, let me help you up."
(a/n): So, there was that long awaited chapter. It seemed kind if like and awkward place to stop for me, but I'm terrible with endings. As I stated, I've been super busy lately, so I cannot give you a set date by which to expect an update. Just be on the look out for one, I'll try to update as soon as I can. :)
God bless!
