Chapter Ten: A Desperate Escape
Hours Mihael waited, pacing back and forth. He didn't dare sleep, for fear of being eaten if he did. Finally, he heard the guards talking to someone and he leaned in close to the door to listen.
"Food? Well, I'd say that's too nice, but let me just taste it to make sure you're not tainting him with anything. You know that we can't give him any carbs."
"Of course, feel free." He heard someone say. After that it was silent until he heard a FWUMP and someone was unlocking his door. When the door opened, he saw Nate and someone else behind him. Nate was carrying a lumpy bag.
"Nate!" Mihael's eyes lit up.
"You should go." The girl said to Nate, nodding. "You have three hours before they wake up. Go, and good luck."
"Thank you." Nate smiled, then took Mihael's hand, pulling him along. They ran through the cold hallway, and Mihael could see a few more unconscious guards. When they reached the door, Nate paused and looked out cautiously.
"So…what's the plan?" Mihael asked.
"We have to get you from here to Her Majesty's personal treasure room." Nate said quietly. "Once they see me running around with you, I'll be branded a traitor…" He closed his eyes. "But, it's worth it. Here, put this one." He reached into the bag and handed him a large cloth object. When Mihael unfolded it, he found it to be a cloak. "We have three hours to get there and get you home safe." He smiled grimly. "Even if I have to spill the blood of a fellowman to do it." He pulled on his own cloak and fastened it shut.
"Right…" Mihael fastened his cloak and nodded. "This good?"
"Yeah. Let's hurry." Nate opened the door and rushed out, Mihael following closely. In the darkening sky, hardly anyone noticed the dark cloaks crossing the garden. Nate made sure that Mihael was close by him before he motioned for him to follow him into the castle.
It was much brighter here, but with the time a lot of people were getting ready to change shift or were in the middle of it and there were gaps in the security. Nate glanced at Mihael before he took his hand, pulling him down towards a door. When the door opened, Nate found that it led to a long hallway. Footsteps approaching alerted them and Nate opened one of the side doors, ducking in with Mihael held tightly.
The room was well-furnished and covered in white and pale blue. Mihael took a moment to look around and wonder about who owned it while Nate listened for the sound of the footsteps to pass by.
"Is this your room?" Mihael asked quietly, looking at him.
"…Yes. Though, I doubt it will be mine much longer." Nate replied quietly.
"I'm sorry." Mihael looked down.
"Don't be." Nate reached up and stroked the blonde's hair, letting out a soft sigh. "I don't regret it at all."
Mihael nodded and then followed Nate out when the rabbit-boy opened the door and headed out, closing the door behind them. The two continued in this way for two more hallways, until they finally went through a door leading to a staircase that went up. Just as Mihael thought this was it, Nate opened the door out of the staircase and Mihael found…another hallway. Nate gave an amused smile at the boy's slumped shoulders.

You know that game where you just keep going through doors, unlocking it in different ways? Don't castle dungeons in games sometimes feel like that? Hallway after hallway. Geez.
Yes, it's a shorter chapter. There is a reason for this.
