Hey guys I'm REALLY REALLY sorry about how long this took and I'm not going to bore you with the long list of things that stopped this getting up sooner but I will say: Schoolwork, Tired, Schoolwork, No inspiration, Tired.
But it's here now, so that's something? Don't fret guys, this story is coming to an end and you won't have to put up with me for much longer (unless I write some more zombie stuff you decide to read). I am going on holidays in about a month (in will be gone for about a month) and the plan is to have this story done before I leave!
Please don't hate me for not having updated and…yeah.
Names for characters are at the end.
ENJOY~
Feliciano was expecting cells, handcuffs or something sinister inside the shed and he was completely unprepared when they entered it. The room was fairly plain, two bunk beds by one wall, a lounge set in the middle, a small refrigerator and a bathroom to the side; It looked like the cabin of a middle school camp- not exactly threatening. The figure closed the door once everyone had entered, took a seat and asked for everyone to join them "I'm sorry about all of this, it must have scared you".
No kidding. Feliciano thought, though he didn't respond.
"It's necessary though, to keep the whole system safe we have to be thorough with new arrivals"
"Yeah," Feliciano mumbled in place of an actual reply.
The figure looked at them closely again before laughing lightly, "I'm sorry guys, you don't realise it's me do you?"
"Huh, what do you mean?" Lovino asked.
The helmet, vest and goggles were removed to reveal a young lady, with matted blonde hair that may once have rivalled France's and shining blue eyes. Lili was the first to recognize her and suddenly felt a lot more comfortable in her presence. "Emily, how are you here?"
"Emily?" both brothers asked in unison "what are you doing here?"
She smirked "It's weirder to see you three here. It's good to see you all by the way, or are we done with pleasantries?"
"Sorry. I'm still a bit thrown about the whole 'strip naked' thing so I guess saying hello slipped my mind." Lovino retorted to which Emily just smiled.
Feliciano hummed, "sorry but why did you bring us up here Emily?"
"Oh!" she cried, jumping up quickly "This shed is the beautiful home of all Nations, Principalities and Micro-Nations while they wait to be transported to the safety of Seychelles."
"Could you repeat that?"
She sighed and flopped back onto the seat "The planes fly out every fortnight, the next one is tomorrow afternoon and you guys stay here till we take you to the airport."
"Oh, you don't think they could have told us that?" Lovino grumbled
"Not really, No. They're busy people" Emily replied bluntly
"What about our stuff though?" Lili asked "Where's our car?"
"It's fine really but we had to get rid of some things"
"You went through our stuff?!"
"Sorry yeah, its protocol and we have to be safe with everything; unfortunately I've got to help with the other arrivals so is there anything else you need." She responded, moving slowly to the door.
"Yeah," Feliciano cleared his throat trying to find the best way to phrase his question, "Are there any others, of us. Have you seen them?"
Emily turned to him and smiled softly, "There are more of us, though I'm not sure of all of them. This isn't the only airport so they didn't all come here but I've known Katyusha, Raivis and Allistor are there at least. Francis, Arthur and Peter are alive to the best of my knowledge. Hercules is okay there's another airport on his lands, the same goes for Bruce. Victoria's doing well of course and I'm afraid that's all I know of. That's something though, there's still hope." Feliciano nodded in agreement and Emily left the room.
Getting sleep that night was surprisingly easy. Against the uncomfortable situation, new information and the continuous hustle of movement outside, their exhaustion won out and all three managed to fall asleep within minutes of heads hitting the pillow. Feliciano was the first to wake up, just when the sun was rising, but he didn't want to leave the cabin alone and was left with nothing to do. He spent half an hour in bed before moving near the window and watching the guards outside and, in daylight and context, there were clearly fewer than he had thought. A loud knock on the door interrupted him and he sprung from his place, stirred Lovino and Lili awake and opened the door to a wide-awake and energetic looking Emily.
"Ready?" She grinned at Feliciano, smile faltering slightly when she saw the dishevelled figures behind him, "-ish?"
"Uhhh" he glanced behind his shoulder sheepishly 'Kind of, wait...ready for what?"
"Ready for getting ready, duhh. You guys have a plane to catch today, but if you need more time-"
Lovino waved his hand dismissingly, yawning at the same time "No No, we're fine. I'm pissed as hell I don't get to sleep but the sooner we can get on a plane the better"
"Good" Emily replied, "We'll go then, there's lots to do before you can leave."
The 'lot's to do' consisted of another complimentary ice-cold shower, a meal of what could only be called packaged-dust, tests on all bodily fluids and psycho-examination before they were finally taken to their vehicle. It was clean to say the least: spotless and blindingly white in the sun and organized anally on the inside. All of their belongings had been removed from the bags and placed into labelled boxes, every piece of clothing was missing (along with their actual bags) and it all seemed to glisten with the same sanitation. They packed what remained and held any personal value into the small cases they were given but most of it, like the food, was left behind.
Finally they were given relief from the ordeal when a small charter bus pulled up in the compound acting as a reminder that despite the ridiculousness of their situation, they were almost safe. Safe so they could sleep, eat, shower, live how they normally had and hopefully find out the state of the world. They climbed onto the bus, packing their belongings in the overhead carriage and taking the seat at the very back. Eventually the bus took off out of the golf course, past the suburbia and the highway until the airport crept into view.
The truck slowed as it drove through various checkpoints so the group was given a good look at the military-base look everything had been given. Exactly like the last camp it was crowded with wire, weapons, and armed soldier except this time there were a lot more people around; many of them buzzing with excitement. Feliciano couldn't help but smile when he saw a little boy, loaded with a rather large bag, trying to drag his mother along to the entrance while she was still unloading her bag. It was the first time he'd seen a child in a very long time and against his weariness it warmed his heart to see they had remained innocent. He was so lost in thought that he didn't realised they'd stopped until Lili dropped his bag onto him.
The process to get from the entrance to the plane's gateway was surprisingly similar to the usual and he had to hold in a laugh when the scanned his bags. It was ridiculous that, after everything, people were still worried about bombs and guns on planes. When they reached the terminal, they were each given a ticket with their seat numbers on it and were directed to board the plane. Much to their dismay, the seats they were given were away from each other and no one would change. Feliciano was seated towards the front between a sleeping, sickly-looking man and two empty chairs which were filled by the young boy and his mother just before the plane took off while both Lili and Lovino were seated near the back.
Hours had passed without much happening, the people around his stirred and talked quietly but the passengers seemed more docile than on a normal flight probably because of the safety that the plane represented. It wasn't false or pretend, that plane was so far above anything dangerous and it seemed to lull everyone. He wondered if this was what it was like in Seychelles, was it normal like this or was it strict and caging like the previous camp. Did it really matter though, it was safe…but it wasn't home. Home was with his people on his lands but when would he see it again, if ever. Feliciano shook himself trying to persuade himself that he could do nothing about it but…
"You look silly" a small voice piped out of nowhere, pulling Feliciano from his thoughts as he looked around for the source. He was thinking he imagined it when the small boy beside him, who he'd thought asleep, pulled his head down and whispered into his ear "What's with your hair, it looks silly?"
"What?" Feli bumbled, taken off guard by the comment
"It sticks up really silly, why does it do that?"
"Oh" Feliciano sighed, putting his hand to the curl protruding from his hair. He noticed that it stuck up a lot more than it had in a long time, no doubt because of his cleanliness, and smiled a little "I'm not sure actually, it's done that forever"
The boy's head tilted as he scrupulously examined the curl and eventually flopping back on his seat "My hair used to stick up like that, mum made me cut it though"
Feliciano looked past the boy to his mother who was definitely sleeping and tried to imagine how hard it would be to protect a child through everything. The boy sat up again, leaning near to Feli's ear "Where are you from?"
"Venice, what about you?"
"Can't say" the boy whispered, shaking his head
Furrowing his brows he turned to the boy "Why not, I told you where I'm from?"
"My mum says not to tell strangers where I live"
"But you don't live there anymore" Feliciano replied in exasperation
"I do so" the boy huffed "All my toys are still there, we just had to leave for a bit."
Feli smiled "what if I tell you my name?
"Huh?"
"If you know my name, we aren't strangers anymore and you can tell me"
The child furrowed his eyebrows in thought; concentrating like it was the most important decision he'd ever had to make. After several moments he lifted his head and nodded "That will work"
"I'm Feliciano then," he said extending his hand "What about you".
The boy cautiously took his hand and shook it "I'm Arthur, I'm from Berlin"
The nation smiled, forgetting to let the boys hand go "I knew an Arthur once, and a man from Berlin…they were both pretty scary.
Arthur gnashed his teeth together and grinned "I'm scary too! Once I scared my little sister so bad and she screamed so much her voice disappeared"
"How olds your sister then?" he laughed in response, the child's smile disappeared instantly and Feliciano realised what he'd done much too late. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean too"
Arthur looked from Feliciano to his mother and back again before shaking his head slowly "No no. She'd be just six now"
Feliciano nodded but didn't answer. Arthur curled up tightly on his mother's side, and didn't say anything else.
Hours later a voice cracked over the speakers waking the sleeping nation "Ladies and Gentlemen I think you'll be happy to know we've just passed into Seychellois Airspace and we are beginning our decent. People around him smiled and laughed genuine, proper laughter or maybe it was just him but that didn't matter; even half-asleep he could feel the weight lifting off his shoulders. They had made it. They were safe. They were Alive. They were saved.
