Chapter Five

"What the hell happened?" Kevin demanded to know as he walked into the hospital waiting room and saw Todd pacing around.

"Vicki had a heart attack," Todd explained.

"It's three in the morning. What were you doing at Llanfair anyways?"

"I needed to talk to her."

"What was so dam important that it couldn't have waited until morning?"

"None of your business," Todd snapped.

"It is my business when you put my mother in the hospital because you're giving her too much stress," Kevin stated as he pushed Todd.

"Kevin, now is not the time," Natalie stated as she walked into the room with John.

"You're right Natalie, mom wouldn't want me to fight with him. I'm just so worried. We can't lose her."

"We won't." Todd whispered.

"Have you seen Jessica? Does she know about mom?" Natalie asked as she looked at Todd for answers.

"Jessica doesn't know anything…I'm going to go for a walk, let me know if you hear anything," Todd stated as he left the room. He hated lying to them about Jessica, but he just didn't know how to tell them the truth about Tess.

"I know that you don't want to hear from me after all the things that I've done, but don't take your anger out on me by taking my sister," Todd said as he walked into the hospital chapel. "She's not like me…she's a good person and she's one of the few people in this town that gave me a chance. She could have turned her back on me, especially after what I did to Marty, but she didn't." Todd stated.

"What did you do to my mom?" Cole asked as he and Marty walked into the chapel.

"Marty, you're here," Todd whispered as he turned around and saw the woman that had consumed his mind for most of his adult life.

"What did he do to you mom?" Cole asked again.

"Nothing….Cole, there's a vending machine just around the corner. Will you go and get me a coffee?" Marty asked as she gave him a few dollars.

"Sure, I'll be right back," Cole stated as he glared at Todd and then left the chapel.

"How's Vicki?" Marty whispered as she looked into Todd's eyes.

"I don't know. I don't know what I'll do if I lose her," Todd said as his voice broke with emotion.

Marty didn't know what to say to comfort him so she just wrapped her arms around him.

"I'm so glad that you're here Marty," Todd whispered as he continued to embrace her.

Bess pinned her hair up in a bun and swiped a pair of scrubs and surgical mask from the employee's dressing room. When she was certain that Jessica's family wouldn't recognize her she walked into the waiting room and saw the doctor approaching Kevin, Natalie, and John.

"Doctor Truman, how's my mom doing?" Kevin asked.

"I'm going to keep her here for a few days, but she should make a full recovery," Doctor Truman explained.

"Can we go and see her?" Natalie asked.

"She's sleeping right now, but she was asking for Jessica."

"Jessica? Shouldn't she be here by now?" Kevin asked as he looked around.

"She's not answering her calls and Antonio hasn't seen her," Natalie explained.

Bess turned around and headed for the exit. She had heard everything that she needed to hear. "Victoria is going to make a full recovery. My presence is no longer necessary," Bess stated as she closed her eyes.

Tess opened up her eyes and removed the glasses and let her hair fall down around her shoulders. It was time to disappear from Llanview for good before Todd had her committed.
