The car ride on the way to Sharon's house was traveled in silence. Callie looked out the window or straight ahead the whole way there and avoided all conversation. She was lost in all of her thoughts. Did I really just do that? Am I going to be able to keep this promise? She was so overwhelmed by the creatures in her mind. It wasn't long until tears started falling down her face.
Stef attempted to talk to Callie a few times but decided it would be better to let her breathe for a minute. She was driving on the highway when she heard a few sniffles coming from the teen. Stef looked over and sure enough, Callie's face was red and filled with tears. Stef wanted to say something, to talk to her about what she was feeling, but she figured the teen would be talking if she wanted to. Instead, Stef placed her hand next to Callie's leg and offered it to her to take.
Callie wiped her face with the back of her sleeve when she looked down to see Stef's hand sitting next to her leg, ready to be taken. She looked at it for a minute until she slowly intertwined her fingers with the blonde. The grasp offered Callie comfort that made her believe everything was going to be okay.
When they pulled up to Sharon's house Stef turned her body towards Callie and squeezed her hand. "You can go ahead and walk right in, she's waiting for you." She looked into the teen's eyes and brought her hand up to kiss then let go. "Have fun, I'll pick you up around 4:00pm."
Callie wiped a few stray tears from her eyes and said "Thank you…for everything." And before Stef could reply, she closed the door and headed up to the house. When approaching the front door, she decided to knock anyways; she didn't want to scare Sharon.
The small redhead opened the door and automatically noticed that Callie had been crying. She took the teen into a hug and led her into the kitchen, not mentioning her red, puffy face. "Did you eat any lunch?" Callie shook her head no. Sharon started preparing a turkey and cheese sandwich for Callie.
Callie sat there in silence as Sharon finished the sandwich and handed it to her. She sat across from Callie and watched as she ate. "I'm guessing Stef told you?"
"Told me what?"
Callie took a deep breath "What did Stef tell you on the phone?"
Sharon was thoroughly confused "She said that she went home for her lunch break and you were at the house."
Callie didn't really want to explain what had happened, but she knew Stef couldn't do everything for her. "Oh"
"So tell me what happened, because I get the feeling that wasn't the whole story. And normally when kids are skipping, people take them back to school, not their grandma's."
Callie thought about lying and making up a story to cover for her but she remembered that she was going to be honest now. Stef would probably ask about it anyways. She took a few deep breaths before she started. "I went home at the beginning of lunch and …I cut." Her voice cracked on the last part.
Sharon looked at her granddaughter with deep eyes. "What happened after that?"
Callie repeated everything that had happened just a short half an hour before, taking many pauses to breathe. She saw Sharon's face light up at the last part.
Sharon smiled, but kept her feelings under control. "And it's not going to bother you talking to multiple people, so intimately, at once?"
Callie looked down at her plate and spoke the truth. "No. It doesn't bother me because…I love you guys. You deserve to know."
"And you deserve to get it out."
Callie nodded and looked around the room. She picked up her sandwich and started to eat the last half. Sharon was looking at her but she didn't make eye contact. After a while Sharon cleared her throat "So why did you do it? You didn't tell Stef and its okay if you don't want to tell me."
"It's dumb."
"I can handle dumb."
Callie knew that telling Sharon why she cut would be a part of the new honesty thing she was trying out so slowly she stated "It's just…the name."
Sharon was confused again "What name? What about this name?"
"When Stef and Lena adopted me and Jude, they changed our name to Adams Foster, and all day I had to look at myself write that down on the paper. 'Jacobs' was the only thing I had left of my mom, and I lost it."
Sharon was dumbfounded "You don't have to change your name! It's simple for your moms to go down to city hall and change it back to Jacobs if that's what you want!"
"Yea, but I don't want them to think I don't want to be a part of the family."
Sharon took Callie's hand in hers "I think they would understand, but you have to talk to them about it. No hiding!"
Callie nodded again "I think I'll talk to them about it at our session." Callie was still afraid of that, but she knew it would be the best thing for her in the long run.
Sharon squeezed her hand and pulled her own back to her. "That's good. You know, that session is a really great idea. That is some really wonderful progress on your part." She was so proud of Callie for wanting to do this.
Callie tried to hide her fear of the session and smile "I have a lot of things I need to tell you guys and also clear up some things. I'm just…tired. Tired of having to slice my skin every time I have a problem, and tired of hiding it from everyone." She gobbled up the rest of her sandwich and proceeded on to the chips.
Sharon nodded at the words the teen was saying. Her heart broke for Callie but she managed to say "Well I'm glad you feel safe enough with us to do this. You are so strong, Callie."
Callie stifled out a laugh "No, I'm not. I cut today and I was too embarrassed to talk to anyone about a dumb problem. That's the opposite of strong."
"But you are making the decision to recover, and that is one of the strongest things I've ever seen. I'm not going to lie to you, Callie; you're going to need all of that strength in this process. Recovery is hard, and it's going to hurt a lot. But in the end, it's going to be worth it, and you'll be glad you did it."
Callie stood up to put her empty plate in the sink as she sarcastically stated "I'm so excited."
Later that afternoon, Stef showed up at the door and it was time for Sharon to say goodbye to Callie. They were all standing in the doorstep and they exchanged hugs. Sharon squeezed Callie tight and talked in her ear "You have my number. Call me next time and you know I will be right there."
Callie hugged Sharon back and replied "I'll try"
They released from the hug "That's all I'm asking. It can be scary but just know I'm here…and I'm never busy anyways."
Stef laughed and took Callie by the hand. "Ready sweets?"
Callie nodded her head and smiled at Stef "I'm ready."
NOTE: Oh my god, I love you all so much! I've gotten so many kind reviews and thank you for all the well wishes. Just to clear things up, I am doing well and life is good. I really hoped you liked this chapter, it was pretty long . The next chapter is most likely going to be of that nice little session that they are all having, so prepare your brains! Have a nice day!
