Chapter 10

"Neru," Haku wined, "the ice go stuck in the blender while I was making a smoothie and I can't get it out." Neru mentally slapped herself in the forehead. Only Haku could make a smoothie mess look like a crime scene. Neru heard a humming sound as she walked up to Haku to help her.

"did you turn the blender off?" Neru asked hesitantly.

Haku shook her head slightly as she continued to try to dig the ice out of the bottom of the blender.

Neru ran to Haku and yanked her arm out of the blender. It dropped to the ground with a metallic clunk and the blades roared to life spraying fruit goo to the far side of the kitchen.

Neru turned to Haku and violently shook her by the shoulders.

"What did I tell you Haku? You NEVER stick your hand in a blender! Never Ever! Especially when it's on! Haku, do you want to lose your fingers? Are you trying to scare me to death? Why, would you stick your hand in a blender?!"

"Neru I was just trying to get the ice out," Haku said looking behind Neru, at the blender vibrating against the floor, still running with a vicious vengeance.

"And what about when you got it out, Haku?" Neru shook her again. "the blades would've started like they just did and your fingers would be sliced off in a matter of seconds. Seconds, Haku, seconds! Why wouldn't you at least turn the damn thing off?!" Neru saw that Haku's eyes were still curiously watching the blender as it rambled on behind her. Neru pushed Haku back and turned around and wrestled the blender to a position to where she could turn it off. "Common sense Haku," Neru growled, mostly to herself, "It's all just common sense."

She dropped the blender in the sink and grabbed some towels out of the drawer. Neru kneeled on all fours and started to wipe up the red goop that covered the entire kitchen. She looked over to Haku who was just staring at the spot the blender had been, the look of curiosity still plastered on her face. It was almost as if Neru hadn't moved the blender, much less turned it off.

"Haku, come grab a rag and help me clean this," Neru said softly to Haku.

Haku continued to stare at the spot, her eyes seemilg to follow some slight movement in that spot.

"HAKU!" Neru shrieked. Haku looked to her. "Rag! NOW!" Haku stood up and quickly ran to get a rag. "Help me clean this up," Neru said as she motioned to the smoothie mess Haku had made.

"Okay," Haku said with a puzzled look on her face, as if she had no idea how the mess had gotten there. She bent down and tried to scoop the mess into the rag, only succeeding in making a bigger mess.

Neru watched Haku with a mixture of wonder and irritability.

Oh Haku…..
