Chapter 18:

Bonnie blinked as she came too, trying to figure out her surroundings. Her body ached all over and she was extremely tired.

She sat up slowly and looked round, she was back in Damon's room back at the manor.

She moved herself to the edge of the bed and tested her feet. She felt weak and she knew if she called for help someone would be here within seconds but that would mean questions and she wasn't quite ready to answer them yet.

She move slowly over to the bathroom trying not to fall on her tired feet, she moved towards the shower, needing to wash away the grime from the last few days. She slowly took off her clothes, hurting too much to move any quicker. She turned the temperature up high before letting go and sobbed.

She let go of her pain, the feeling of loss she felt for Alderson. She cried for his pain as well as her own. She cried for Malcolm and the lost he must have felt at losing his oldest friend.

When she was done she stepped out of the shower she wrapped a towel around herself before heading back to the bedroom.

Damon sat at the bottom of the bed waiting for her.

"Hi." She said softly.

Damon looked up and Bonnie bit back a sob of how tired and worried he looked.

"I'm sorry." She added.

Damon stood up and slowly approached her. She closed as he stopped just in front of her. She felt his cool breath on her skin as he gently traced the outlines of the bruises on her skin. She gasped and opened her eyes as he pressed a kiss to her neck.

Bonnie looked at him as his face inched closer to hers.

"Damon," she said softly.

Damon captured her lips and in a searing kiss to her lips. Damon kissed her like he was afraid she may disappear. Bonnie kissed him back with just as much, hoping he could feel her sorrow for making him worry.

Bonnie gasp as he nipped her lip and he took advantage letting his tongue enter her mouth. Bonnie moaned as she wrapped her arms round his neck. The towel fell to the floor as he wrapped his arms round her waist pulling her closer.

Bonnie pulled away gasping for breath and Damon kissed her forehead.

"Please don't do that again." He begged.

Bonnie kissed him again.

"I'm sorry I worried you." She whispered.

She knew if she promised not to do that again it would be a lie so she went with the next best thing.

Damon sighed before pulling a t-shirt from his draw and pulling it over her head. Bonnie helped him put the t-shirt over her arms before she let him lead her to his bed. Bonnie sat with his arms around her.

"What happened in there?" he asked quietly pressing a kiss to her shoulder blade.

Bonnie looked back at him, his eyes capturing hers completely.

"He asked me to kill him." She said as tears formed in her eyes once again.

Damon looked at her, confused about her tears.

"He was alone and he just wanted his family back." She added.

"I know what it feels like to be alone Damon I had to give him back his family." She cried as tears fell faster.

She knew Damon had no idea what she was talking about but he still gathered her tighter in his arms and held her while she cried.

Stefan stood outside the house watching the birds as the basked in the sun. He knew that Bonnie was now awake by the sound of her sobs but he knew his brother had it covered.

"Sounds like Bonnie's awake." Caroline said from behind him.

Stefan turned to face the blonde, she looked sad and he knew she could hear Bonnie's tears just as loud as he could.

"Damon will take care of her." Stefan promised looking back towards the birds.

Caroline stopped next to him.

"I know, I just don't understand what happened." Caroline complained.

Stefan nodded in agreement.

"I'm sure we will find out what happens soon enough." Stefan pointed out.

Caroline nodded.

She sighed heavily next to him and Stefan smiled to himself. He knew Caroline wanted to ask him something but she was afraid.

"What is it Caroline?" he asked softly.

He felt her look across at him.

"Are you still leaving?" she wondered quietly.

Stefan looked at her and was surprise to see tears in her beautiful eyes as he nodded. He was just as surprise by how much her tears bothered him.

She took a shuddering breath as she looked away from him and Stefan found himself in conflict.

Caroline was his best friend and he cherished her, since the moment he began helping her she had become his constant. The one person in his life that no matter what he did would always be there. He knew there was something between them, he would be a liar if he said otherwise. As he watched the tears fall down her perfect skin he could help but feel he was somehow abandoning her.

"Come with me." He whispered.

Caroline eyes darted to his.

She opened her mouth to answers as they heard Damon's voice calling out to them.

Damon held Bonnie as she finished telling them all what happen. He hated seeing how tired she was and he was still alive Damon would kill Alderson for the bruises he left on her. But Bonnie had a good heart and he knew how much it must have hurt her to kill Alderson.

"I'm so sorry, I should never have left you." Caroline said as she held her friend tightly.

Bonnie shook her head as she held Caroline.

"It wouldn't have been the same if any of you were there." She replied.

Caroline stepped back and nodded but Damon could still see the guilt in the girl's eyes.

"What happened to Malcolm?" Stefan asked.

Bonnie smiled sadly over at his brother.

"Alderson set him free." She replied.

Stefan nodded.

They all sat in silence unsure what was going to come next.

"What happens now?" Caroline asked finally breaking the silence.

Damon saw his brother's eyes dart to Caroline before looking away again. Damon frowned, was something going on between the two of them? He knew that Caroline had a thing for his brother but he was now wondering if Stefan had a thing for her. The more he thought about it the more he hoped Stefan did. Both Caroline and Stefan deserved a happy story just like he hope him and Bonnie would have together.

"I have bury Alderson's ashes with the rest of his family then destroy the necklace." Bonnie said determinedly.

Damon looked down at her.

"You still want to destroy the necklace?" He asked.

She nodded.

"Something that powerful shouldn't exist." She reasoned.

Damon nodded in agreement and the four of them got to work.

Caroline stood back as she watched her friend bury the ashes of the man who had once tried to kill her with the upmost care. Caroline didn't understand how Bonnie could be so forgiven but then again that was just the type of person her best friend was.

Damon held Bonnie as she cried and Caroline smiled sadly to herself.

"You never answered my question." Stefan said as he stood next to her.

Caroline looked over at him.

"Are you serious?" she asked self-consciously.

Stefan eyes never left hers as he took her hand and he nodded slowly.

"Come with me." He begged.

Caroline looked over at her best friend. Bonnie had Damon now and Caroline knew he wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

"Will come back right?" she asked.

Stefan nodded.

Caroline took a deep breath. She didn't know what the future held but she wanted to find out.

"Yes." She whispered.

Bonnie sat down as Damon handed her the necklace.

"Were did you find it?" she asked.

Damon smiled sadly.

"Alderson had it on him." Damon replied.

Bonnie nodded and looked down at the beautiful necklace. She could help but wonder about Alderson and whether he got his family.

She closed her eyes hoping the necklace would work one last time.

Matthew Alderson blinked awake as he heard the sound of tiny feet pounding towards him.

"Poppa, poppa wake up?" A little voice called.

Matthew smiled to himself as he turned to face the bedroom door. A little boy around 3 appeared appear at the door.

"Poppa wake up." The little boy pouted at the door.

Matthew smiled as he sat up and looked at his son.

"Tell me Michael, why should I?" he asked.

Michael glared at his father in way that reminded Matthew so much of the boy's mother.

"Because I want you to play with me." Michael pouted.

Matthew stood from bed quickly.

"Then by all means my son we must play." Matthew laughed.

Matthew followed his son to the kitchen, where Michael's mother stood looking out of the window.

"Poppa is awake now Momma." Michael cheered happily.

Michael's mother turned to face him as wave of love went through Matthew as Arabella's face came into view.

Arabella smiled at him.

"It took poppa long enough." She smiled warmly.

Matthew put his arms around Arabella's waist pulling her close.

Arabella laughed as she kissed him.

"Err mum and dad as so gross." A cheeky voice called.

Matthew turned laughing as he looked towards his daughter. He smiled at Emily. The five year old girl he always saw her as.

"My beautiful little girl, give Poppa a kiss." Matthew said.

Emily smiled shaking her head.

Matthew smirked before making his way over to her and gathering in his arms.

Matthew placed kisses on his daughter face as she laughed. It felt good to have his family.

Bonnie looked at the remains of the necklace. Glad that it had showed her Alderson happy ever after before she destroyed it.

Damon took her hand and placed a kiss to it.

She smiled at him.

"What happens now?" she asked him softly.

In a few days Stefan and Caroline were going off traveling and although she would missed them both terribly, Bonnie couldn't help but help but think that it would be a good thing for them both.

Damon smiled at Bonnie.

"We get to try and be happy." Damon said.

Bonnie smiled she didn't know what was going to happen but she sure looking forward to it.
