A/N- Sorry about lateness, my wi-fi kept on dying, meaning that the things I had written kept on being deleted. Sorry. Anyway here it is at last! Also there is a twist, and I hope you like it, but it was kind of essential for something else I have planned in it.

Chapter Eight

He tightened his grip on the plastic door knob and pushed it open. It squeaked as he did so, a high-pitched annoying sound. He hoped it wouldn't wake up whoever lay inside. Roy took a step into the room, his eyes automatically lying in the direction of the bed. He was lying down, apparently sleeping, making it impossible to see his face. Mustang took another few steps forward, going slowly, not wanting to wake up the man.

The room looked like a typical hospital room. White walls, roof, and furniture, with a pastel green tile floor. The bed lay in the direct centre of the room, a white expanse of sheets and pillows. The figure was in the middle of it, sleeping face down. Next to the bed was a small chest of drawers, and an IV on a rack. The man was hooked up to an assortment of machines, all making some sort of beeping noise.

Mustang sat down on a chair that was sitting on the other side of the bed. He shifted uncomfortably on it. The chair had obviously not been designed for comfort. He allowed his eyes to wander around the room, before resting on the man who lay on the bed. He looked about the same size as Ed, but Roy wasn't too sure. The man shifted in his sleep and rolled over. Roy could now easily see his brown hair, and parts of his face, as the other parts were covered in bandages. Most of the hair looked like it had been burnt of, judging by the strangely random bald patches the man had. The man's eyes were twitching in his sleep, meaning he was probably dreaming.

Roy sighed, resigned to waiting until the man woke up, before he realised that he couldn't hear the heavy breathing that had helped signify that the man was asleep. He turned slowly towards the bed, almost fearful of what he would see.

A man with green eyes stared back up at him.

"DAMMIT! " Roy slapped his hands down on the hospital reception desk, before glaring pointedly at the timid looking receptionist. "There has to be at least one more person that was admitted into this hospital from the town of Guilden!"

The receptionist swallowed nervously. "I'm very sorry sir, but nobody else was admitted." She said in a quiet voive, not wanting to enrage Mustang further.

Roy's hands clenched into fists, his jaw tightening. Where the hell had Fullmetal gone? "I see." He said to the lady, then stomped out of the hospital. His military boots clacked on the tarmac car park, almost ominously in Havoc's point of view. He made his way towards Havoc's car, with Havoc leaning against the hood, smoking. When Mustang had gotten over to the car, Havoc left the ciggarette in his mouth and saluted.

"What happened?" He said, after taking the ciggarette out of his mouth.

Roy pressed his lips hard together, taking deep breathes, in an attempt to calm himself. "There was only one person there, and it wasn't Ed." He said this sharply, taking some of his anger out on Havoc unintentionally.

Havoc held up both of his hands in surrender. "Are you sure is wasn't Ed?" He questioned, knowing the answer, but having to ask at the same time.

"Of course I did!" Mustang snapped, "Why the hell wouldn't I have?"

"Okay, then what are we going to do now?" Havoc didn't retaliate, trying to be the peacemaker. In his head though, he wanted to shout and ask pointless questions, but keeping his professional air on instead, despite how worried he was for the boy.

Mustang opened the car door and slid into the back seat, cradling his head in his hands. Havoc shrugged and got into the car himself. As he was about to start up the engine though, Roy lifted his head up and met Havoc's eyes in the rearview mirror.

"I don't know. I just don't know." He went back to cradling in head, heavy from all the thoughts and ideas rushing around in it, some making less sense than others. He sighed and sat back in his seat.

"Let's go back to Central. We would just be wasting our time if we spent any longer here."

Havoc nodded in understanding, then started to reverse out of the parking space. Roy sat in the back seat looking out the window, not looking forward to telling the rest of the team that he hadn't found Ed. He sat there and dreaded telling them that he had failed. And he couldn't really hold together anymore thoughts after that, as he had fallen asleep.

A/N- Sorry for OOCness. And don't worry all will be explained in a later chapter. It's kinda confusing... Sorry for taking so long to update, but another thing that has been consuming some of my time is that in my year we are now choosing what subjects we want to take, which may not seem serious or anything, but I think its pretty important, so I've been thinking and talking about that, so yeah... hope you liked the chapter.
