Insight
The neck-breaking speed which with Rebekah was driving made Davina very antsy. She knew that vampires had enhanced reflexes and senses, but this was quite frankly terrifying. A trip that would normally take a 2 hours' drive, if one didn't break any speed limits, was made under 35 minutes. It was a little hard for the young witch to concentrate on Elijah's location with how anxious she was.
Finally, they reached the point where a car wouldn't be able to go further. Davina was grateful that when she got out of the red deathtrap her legs were only slightly wobbly.
"Which direction now?" Rebekah asked a little gleefully as she sensed the whole ride Davina's less than happy feelings. It was childish, she knew, but couldn't help finding great amusement in the witch's discomfort. The brat had some payback coming to her since she wiped Rebekah's mind the first time they had met.
Centering herself, Davina leveled a not so successful glare at the blond Original. Taking a few calming breaths, Davina concentrated on Elijah's mind. After a few seconds of waiting, she lifted her hand to point in the direction, where she sensed the eldest brother.
Rebekah gave the woods and foliage a contemplative look. It seemed that Davina could only tell linear directions, the possible paths not making into the equation.
Rebekah let out an irritated sigh. Her companion was not dressed for a trip in the wild. She had to debate the pros and cons of carrying the girl. Grumbling under her breath, she settled on the fastest solution; she would have to pick up the girl. Without asking permission, Rebekah went over to Davina and flung her over her back. Not giving the chance for any complaints, she started to run at vampire speed in the indicated direction.
Davina thought that the worst way of traveling was sitting beside Rebekah as she drove, but she quickly amended that in her mind. This was far worse.
It hadn't taken long, before she felt a shift in Elijah's location. She wanted to inform her ride, but it seemed like the blond was now able to sense her sibling. Davina sighed in relief as this meant that she hadn't had to endure this much longer.
They came to an abrupt stop. Davina was unceremoniously put onto her feet beside Rebekah. She thought that the blond would let her fall to the ground but surprisingly she steadied her with a gentle grip on her arm. As the world again righted itself to its proper place, Davina could already hear Elijah speaking.
"Tyler Lockwood brought Hayley here to test a theory."
"Well, that's a surprise." Rebekah cut into whatever Elijah was saying with a sneer. "I thought the ungrateful boy wouldn't dare to come near us after his stint with your hybrids, Nik."
Davina finally was able to look around herself. She saw Klaus, Elijah, and a brown haired, brown eyed girl who was obviously pregnant by the slight bulge in her mid-section. She quickly deduced that the woman must be Hayley, though she couldn't fathom what kind of connection the Original family could possibly have with her. Maybe she was a human descendant? No matter, this wasn't important. Elena was.
The brothers wore impassive masks, but they were both surprised by the sudden appearance of their sister and the young witch.
"Pray tell, little sister, why did you come here and with a very interesting companion." Klaus asked curiosity gleaming in his eyes.
"I want you to help me." Davina stated in an authoritative tone, while getting out of Rebekah's hold and straightening her posture. Her gaze was pinned on Elijah.
One of Elijah's eyebrows was arched, silently prompting the girl to speak.
Davina fidgeted uncomfortably in her spot, but didn't dare to break away from the Original's almost X-ray like gaze. She swallowed before she started to speak again.
The change in demeanor was not lost on any of her audience.
"I may have used the spell you gave me to find Elena." Davina saw Elijah tense minutely and hurried on with what she had to say. "I persuaded her to come to New Orleans, so she could take me back with her to Mystic Falls."
Davina halted in her speech, as she had already seen the anger briefly flash in Elijah's eyes. He was instantly aware that she must have delved into his mind at some point, her discomfort giving her further away to the wise gaze of the vampire.
"My sweet, little doppelganger is in New Orleans. Well, there is a shock. I wouldn't think of her boy toys allowing her a trip to the big, bad Originals." Klaus said with a sadistic smirk on his lips.
"Quite enough, Niklaus." Elijah said in a too calm, too soft voice. It made Davina even more afraid of telling him about what happened to Elena. But she needed to do it. She took in a deep breath, wanting to finish the next part with one lungful.
"One of Marcel's men abducted her from the streets because he thought that she was Katherine. They've been torturing her because they don't believe that she isn't who they think."
Rebekah's and Klaus's masks dropped at the mention of this, both showing their surprise at the news. Davina saw from the corner of her eyes the werewolf rolling her eyes in annoyance. At that moment, she decided that her dislike for her was justified.
Davina looked back to Elijah, only to stumble back a step at the murderous anger visible in his eyes which were now completely black compared to his normal brown ones, his face a cold mask.
A shiver had run down her spine in terror at the sight of the eldest Original. This was the face that every vampire, even Klaus, feared.
"Where is she?" Elijah asked softly, his voice promising death.
"I don't k-know." Davina stuttered out in a broken whisper. "I can only tell where someone is, if they know their location, any other occasion and I need blood or a personal artifact to tell where they are."
Elijah hadn't paid attention from the second he heard the witch telling him that she basically had no idea where Elena was. He came to the conclusion this was most likely the reason behind why she tracked him down into the Bayou.
"Niklaus, beside our old mansion's dungeons do you have any other location in mind that would suit for torture?" Elijah turned to his half-brother, his concentration solely devoted to finding Elena as fast as possible.
Klaus tilted his head to the side for a moment in thought. Elena wasn't his favorite person, but she was without question his favorite doppelganger. Elijah's tender feelings and protectiveness for the newest Petrova had always bothered him. That annoying little fact had made his life more complicated at least once or twice. Though, he would have preferred to stay blissfully ignorant about his big brother's feelings for Elena, in this case that wouldn't work.
There was only one time in their long existences; he could recall Elijah behaving like this. And the thought of a repeat performance of Elijah being the one giving himself completely over to the vengeful vampire that was inside of him, was something Klaus did not wish to revisit ever again.
Additionally, Klaus had to think of a certain blond too. If he ever wanted a chance of victory in getting Caroline to admit her feelings for him, letting her best friend get tortured was certainly not the way of going about things when he had the chance to do something about it. So a rescue team for the lovely doppelganger was in order.
At the same time, Rebekah was also remembering what happened in the past, as it was the only occasion Nik seriously considered un-daggering Finn. It took all three of them to prevent Elijah annihilating the whole of Fiorenza.
None of them found the experience pleasant. From then on, it was a silent agreement between herself, Nik and Kol to never let something like that happen. They'd be careful when they saw the signs of Elijah reaching his limit. Niklaus had tested that limit repeatedly but was never foolish enough to send him over it. They swore that never, ever would be an incident like Imperia again.
Rebekah couldn't believe that Elena's abduction would trigger a reaction like this in Elijah. She needed to reevaluate every thought she had on Elena, thinking back and through every interaction she had witnessed or knew about concerning the two.
"There are two other places I can think of, but they are unlikely." Klaus said with certainty. Before Elijah could move, Klaus was beside him placing a calming hand on his brother's shoulder. "I will accompany you, brother."
The careful, gentle caution with which Klaus was suddenly speaking and acting towards Elijah, was a very disturbing sight to see. Normally it was Elijah restraining Klaus, not the other way around.
Hayley had a deep frown on her face as she had always thought that Elijah was the most human of the Originals. But her senses were screaming at her to run away from Elijah's vicinity as fast as she could. She also couldn't deny the twinge of jealousy she felt towards the doppelganger bitch who was everyone's darling back in Mystic Falls and now it seemed as though she'd worked her way into Elijah's mind as well.
"Rebekah, please take care of Hayley and Davina." Elijah turned to his sister, while lifting his right hand to Niklaus's hand resting on his shoulder and squeezing it in silent appreciation of his support.
"As you wish, brother." Rebekah replied with a small, understanding smile on her lips.
Davina released a breath she wasn't aware of holding until seeing the departure of the brothers. Her worries slightly eased.
