The One Day

The warm sunlight shone on the couple in the bed, their bodies entwined under the thin comforter. They were the image of perfection, their skin painted gold in the morning light.

The man slowly awakened, but didn't move because of the naked woman who was using him as a body pillow, her head resting on his chest, one of her arms tightly wound around his waist, and her breasts rubbing deliciously against his side with her every breath. He smiled down at her sleeping form before pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

Elijah lifted one of his arms from around her to languorously caress her back, while he gazed down at her beautiful face. Despite the intimate position, the previous night still seemed like a dream to him. But their scents intermingled in the room was further proof that it had been real.

A soft purr rumbled through him as Elena burrowed her face even deeper into his chest and tightened her arm around him, the quickening of her heartbeat indicating of her imminent awakening.

"Good morning, precious." Elijah whispered into her hair, never ceasing the caressing of her body. To finally be able to use endearments on her, and to have her accept them, made him smile as he spoke.

Elena released a soft sigh, and squirmed even closer to him, almost half of her body covering Elijah's when she felt his hardness against her hip. She began placing soft kisses on his sculpted chest, while her hand snaked down his stomach to explore his straining flesh. His low moan of pleasure as her small warm hands wrapped around him, stroking languidly, made Elena very happy. She wanted to give him as much as she had received from him.

Last night was the most magical experience in her life, despite how it started out. His gentle attentiveness to all of her needs, physically, emotionally, and finally sexually, had been more than she had ever imagined.

Her fingers traced around the tip of his arousal and Elijah finally gave into his desire for the woman in his arms, rolling them over so she was underneath him and began to pepper kisses over her face. "How did you sleep, precious?" he asked, while caressing her sides.

Elena gave a soft moan, as she trembled with rising desire. "It's morning already? I thought I was still dreaming." Elena sighed, opening her eyes to be able to look at the man above her.

He was all too happy with her answer. Their eyes never wavered from each other as he leaned down to give her a slow sensual kiss. There wasn't an inch of distance between their bodies as Elena wrapped her legs around his hips and without any shyness rubbed her slick heat against his rock hard erection.

"Elijah…" A deep growl rumbled in his chest at her needy sigh of his name and with a swift movement of his hips, he buried himself deep inside her, completely filling her with one thrust. Their gasps of pleasure at being one were loud in the silent room.

He started a smooth, gliding rhythm inside her. His thrusts were slow and steady, while Elena wrapped her arms around his neck, one hand gripping his hair tightly in her small, delicate fist. She arched into each thrust of his hips, their bodies moving together in the age old dance.

Elena screamed as he swiveled his hips to hit a spot inside her. His hands hooked her legs higher around his waist, shifting the angle of their connection. She cried out as he focused his attentions on hitting that spot with every inward push, until a kaleidoscope of colors exploded behind her eyes.

"So fucking good!" Elijah cursed, as her clenching sheath milked his climax from him. He dropped his head against her shoulder as his release tore through him.

They basked in the other's embrace and their bliss for a long, glorious moment. But all too soon, in Elena's opinion, Elijah slipped out of her and rolled them over so she was lying on his chest.

"You know, I enjoyed your weight over me." Elena told softly, propping her head on her hands on Elijah's chest to be able to look the man in the eyes. She saw the amused, happy smile tugging at his lips.

Elijah caressed her hair and back, mesmerized by her glowing countenance. She looked well-loved, and it caused him immense satisfaction that he was the one putting that expression on her face.

"Next time, precious." Elijah promised in a low, seductive tone that sent a new wave of arousal through Elena. "But alas, we should get up as I'm sure we won't have the house to ourselves much longer."

Elijah chuckled at the pout on her lips and leaned down to kiss it away.

-o-o-o-o-o-

Rebekah was driving home from the hotel they spent the night with Hayley beside her in the front seat, while Davina sat in the back. At the witch's request, she was abiding the speed limitations.

After her brothers left her with the two girls to save the damsel in distress, her night wasn't at all stellar. She could sense the stench of Hayley's jealousy from miles away and the pregnant werewolf behaved like a lunatic bitch.

"Right, let's go save Elena!" Hayley sneered. "God! Even here everyone bends over backwards for her!"

"She is being tortured by Marcel who was Klaus's protégé." Davina kept her hands tucked firmly by her sides. But Rebekah could see that it was only to keep from reaching towards the werewolf with a curse on her lips.

"So?"

"So he knows how to hurt people! And it's my fault Elena is suffering!"

Rebekah was actually surprised that Davina didn't curse her.

"No, Nik. I want to have a shower in my own bathroom and change into fresh clothes." Rebekah stated to her half-brother who was on speaker while she was driving. "It is already 10:30. We have left more than enough time for Elijah to play doctor."

She didn't spell it out, but Klaus could detect the irritation in her voice that she had also had enough of babysitting. He sighed into his phone.

"My night wasn't so pleasant either, little sister." Klaus informed as he looked around the fifteen dead bodies that laid around him. "Marcel is shackled up in our old dungeons, and I have the magnificent honor of playing guard against his goons."

"Oh, poor Nik! You had to kill a few minions." Rebekah rolled her eyes, her voice held the proper amount of sarcasm.

"If this is what it's like having siblings, I'm happy that I'm an only child." Davina muttered under her breath. The Originals weren't the best company in her experience. This of course didn't apply to Elijah. She had also considered hexing the bitchy werewolf more than once, but trumped down on her desire because she was pregnant.

Who would have thought that Klaus could have children after the curse was lifted from him? Now he was stuck with Hayley for the foreseeable future, something not even he deserved.

Though irritating, last night spent talking with Rebekah was at least informative. She had learned more about magic and witches in those few hours than she had in her whole life.

"I didn't hear you properly, little one." Klaus said in a falsely sweet voice that would have been a promise to bodily harm if she had been in striking vicinity.

"I said nothing." Davina replied quickly. She also realized that while she was preoccupied with her own thoughts, the siblings obviously came to some kind of agreement about the plans for the day. She could already see the beautiful, white house. She sighed in relief that this tension filled little journey had come to its end.

The three women got out of the red car. Rebekah immediately marched to the front door, opening it and stopping into the foyer to listen to voices to determine which room Elijah and Elena were currently occupying.

Davina was a little awestruck at the interior of the mansion. The big windows were letting in light, the dark hardwood floor polished to perfection and she hadn't even mentioned the furniture and paintings. This was a dream house to someone like her, with art laid out for perusal left, right, and center. Before she could completely lose herself in a somewhat dark painting showing the characteristics of Impressionism, she saw Rebekah hurrying away. With a last glance to the beauty on the wall, she followed her two companions.

When they arrived to what seemed to be a kitchen, Davina didn't understand the slightly angry look on Hayley's face and the bewildered one on Rebekah's, until her eyes settled on the couple at the counter. She immediately looked away, a deep crimson blush staining her whole face. The images she'd seen in Elijah's mind were nothing compared to actually witnessing it. That had been the fantasy of a man who had never touched the woman he loved, but this...

Rebekah catalogued every nuance about Elena and Elijah's posture, before the two could turn their attention to the new arrivals. Elena was sitting on a stool, eating with delight what smelled like her brother's famous Eggs Benedict.-Rebekah was jealous for a moment, as her brother wasn't agreeable enough to make her some in quite a while.-But back to the happy couple, Elena was wearing one of her eldest brother's dress shirts that left quite a lot of leg exposed, while Elijah stood behind her clad only in a pair of black pants, his bare chest pressed completely to Elena's back.

One of his hands was resting on her stomach, the other drawing patterns on the brunette's thigh, sometime slipping under the hem of his shirt, while his lips were at her ear and neck, kissing and suckling. The hand on her stomach lifted to brush her still damp hair away from the back of her neck and he placed an open mouthed kiss on her skin. Rebekah noticed with amusement that his hair was equally damp. All in all, it was a disgusting display of erotic domesticity.

"Well, I see that everything is just dandy with you." Rebekah sauntered over to the opposite side of the counter to be able to better observe their faces. She heard Elijah groan against Elena's neck at the disruption.

Her brother finally looked up to meet her amused light blue eyes. One of his eyebrows went up.

"I take it last night went well." She looked at Elijah pointedly, indicating his shirtless state.

"Good morning, Bekah." Elijah greeted her, before turning his attention to the two still standing in the door to the kitchen. "Ladies, please, do come in."

Davina looked up at Elijah's warm invitation and quickly went to hug her new friend, but was halted by Rebekah's restraining arms around her, her eyes snapping to Elijah's as she heard the menacing growl coming from him. His arms wound tighter around Elena.

Rebekah leaned down to the little witch's ear to give her instructions. "Don't move hastily, approach her slowly."

Davina turned towards the blond, a confused look on her face. "His protective instincts haven't settled down yet, be careful."

"I apologize if I frightened you, Davina." Elijah sent an apologetic little smile to the young witch, relaxing his tense posture and with a wave of his right hand beckoned her closer to them.

Davina tentatively made her way to Elena's side who greeted her with a warm, friendly smile. "It's nice to finally meet you in person."

It was a little strange being so close to the usually impeccably dressed vampire while he was so underdressed, or rather so undressed. Davina tried not to giggle at what that meant for her new friend and the Original.

Elena drew the young girl into a brief but warm hug, releasing her quickly because Elijah didn't seem like he would release her anytime soon. It made Elena all kinds of warm inside that he didn't want to let go of her. Since they got up from bed, the only time he hadn't touched her one way or another was when he made her the delicious breakfast, which she already ate one serving of and was well on her way to polishing off her second.

But him cooking hadn't stopped her from touching him. She'd wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed little kisses on his back until he'd banished her to her seat claiming that he was seconds from pinning her to the nearest flat surface. Not that she was opposed, but she was admittedly hungry for human food too.

"You too. I'm so sorry, because of me…"

"No, it wasn't your fault." Elena cut off Davina's apology. She had never blamed the young girl at her side. "They thought I was Katherine and wanted information. None of this was your fault! Besides, it's not the first time I've paid the price for Katherine's actions. And it was my choice to come down. You didn't make me do anything I didn't want to. I came here because I wanted to help you, I still do."

Davina gave a beaming smile to the slightly older woman. She was so happy, that she was absolutely right about Elena. She was beautiful inside and outside.

Elijah marveled on the fast connection the two built over a brief dream. To an outsider, it would seem that they had been friends for years.

Hayley sighed and crossed her arms. She'd often fantasized about seeing Elijah undressed, but her daydreams never featured anyone else, especially not Elena Gilbert. Just like the little doppelganger to make it all about her. Again.

Elijah frowned, turning his eyes to Hayley, as he sensed the resentment coming off of her in thick waves. He wondered what could have upset the young woman.

Of course, they didn't get to discuss Niklaus's plans for the child. But as he told Elena about everything that happened in New Orleans so far, while they took a memorable shower together, she actually pointed out that Klaus was a lot of things, but hurting his own child didn't really compute with his modus operandi. Especially, if someone took into account his past with their father. After breakfast, he'd need to sit Hayley down to ease her fears.

Rebekah found it funny how well Davina and Elena got along. Although, their similar experiences did give them something that they could bond over, so it wasn't as big a surprise.

She reached for the tall glass of blood in front of Elena's plate, but as it got closer to her mouth, she sensed something quite peculiar. She delicately sniffed at it, then it hit her, the human blood was mixed with her brother's. But more importantly, the tall glass was two-third's full of Elijah's blood. She looked up to find him staring at her with clear annoyance, so he didn't want it public knowledge that he was still enhancing Elena's power. This explained why the girl was as good as new, especially after what Nik told her about the condition they found her in.

This glass of blood did serve to pique her curiosity. How much of the intimate display was a result of blood sharing and how much of it was real? Then again, Elena was aware that blood sharing was very sexually charged, and Elijah being Elijah would have reminded her before offering her his veins, so she refrained from passing judgment.

With a quirk of an eyebrow, she put the blood back down in front of Elena.

While Davina and Hayley were sleeping, Rebekah went through every memory she had of Elena. At first, she despised her on principle because of her ancestors, even if she could see the warmness in her eyes. Then she felt they connected when Nik went on his first hybrid creating quest, but Elena betrayed the tentative trust she afforded her. Her ego was also bruised because of Stefan, but she could overlook that. Rebekah downright hated the girl, until she turned off her emotions and they went on the trip to hunt down Katherine.

Nowadays, she acknowledged that Elena was a person worthy of her attention and respect. So, if Elijah wanted the latest doppelganger and was happy with her then he had her blessing.

Hayley moved so that she was standing beside Rebekah, a deep frown once again marring her face. The way Davina chattered happily with the darling doppelganger annoyed her. But Elijah's behavior bothered her even more. He was smiling, teasing, and joking with the two brunettes. Every so often, he would lean over and kiss the girl in his arms, nuzzling his face against her neck. His whole demeanor more relaxed, more open than she had ever seen it.

It wasn't only the way Elijah treated Elena that was grating on her, she was also angry at herself because of the jealousy she felt. She knew that falling for the older brother of her child's father was beyond dumb, but she couldn't help it. It also gave her consolation that Elijah seemingly reciprocated her feelings. However, the picture in front of her was painfully obvious. Elijah was head over heels in love with the vampire.

Her nostrils flared and she immediately regretted the action as their mingled scents entered her nose. Her stomach heaved as she realized that she could hardly tell them apart. The only way they could smell like each other so strongly was if they'd had sex very recently and consumed each other's blood. She heard the rumors about how intimate an experience blood sharing between vampires were, not only on a physical but also on emotional and psychological levels.

"So, when will you go back to your boyfriend?" Hayley asked in a cool voice. "Are you going to tell him exactly what you've been doing? Or should I say who you've been doing?

Everyone in the room tensed, turning their attention to the pregnant werewolf. Elena spluttered at the rude comment, her guilt for cheating on Damon resurfacing with a vengeance.

Elijah was the first to recover from the shock of Hayley's more than spiteful comment. "You stop right there." He warned with a glare, his instincts screaming at him to kill the one who disrespected Elena. "Trust me, you don't want to go down this road, Hayley."

"Oh, come on Elijah!" Hayley exclaimed, her glare only slightly softening as she looked at Elijah. "You really want to entangle yourself with a woman who wears the face of your previous lovers, a woman who cheats on her own lover? You know she's going to go right back to his bed when she's through with you!"

Davina bristled at the wolf who was obviously aiming her comments to cause the maximum emotional damage to Elena. But Elena beat her in answering.

"No, I won't. Yes, I betrayed Damon, and I will have to face the consequences of my actions." Elena's voice was surprisingly even as she spoke. "But I'm not leaving Elijah. Besides, I don't think you have the right to judge me. You orchestrated the deaths of twelve people who considered you, if not a friend, at least an alley. You lie without batting an eyelash to those who consider you a friend. Tyler is a prime example of that. You look down upon me, because I'm a doppelganger, but you were Katherine's spy, Katherine, who is as manipulative and psychotic as they come. And now, you are considered a part of a family who would do anything and everything to protect your unborn child, and by extension, you."

Elijah leaned down and kissed Elena's neck to calm his agitated beloved.

"Now listen, you whore…" Hayley yelled, gripping the counter hard enough to dent it. Seeing Elijah comfort the girl was the last straw.

"Enough, Hayley!" Elijah said in a cold, hard tone, his eyes narrowing and turning ice cold. "First of all, never ever speak to her disrespectfully. I can guarantee you won't like the consequences. Secondly, she's right enough. You are part of this family, but that is because you are carrying my brother's child. And you got pregnant, because of one drunken night-a bad decision brought on by a bottle of scotch, wasn't that what you called it?-so you don't really have the room of accusing anyone of being a whore." He snorted. "Actually, you are a bit more common and sluttier than Niklaus's average partners."

The tears were streaming down Hayley's face at his cruel words. She'd have never imagined that Elijah could treat her like this.

"I think, it is best if you go up to your room and calm down." Rebekah said to the werewolf with only an ounce of sympathy in her eyes.

It was time the girl learned that her eldest brother could be as heartless as Nik if he was provoked enough. And attacking Elena so soon after Elijah had nearly lost complete control of himself to rescue her had been more than enough reason for him to snap at the werewolf. To the blond Original, it was crystal clear that Hayley would already be without a heart if Elijah didn't consider her unborn child family.

As Hayley left the room, Davina let out an angry huff. "Well, that was awkward."

"Yes, it was." Elena replied, guilt already eating at her for her words. "Though, we were unnecessarily cruel."

"Elena, Hayley needs to learn what she can and can't do in this family." Rebekah explained with a thoughtful look on her face. "We would have never considered associating with her if not for the circumstances. She has only say through our niece, she hasn't got any power on her own."

Elena was speechless at Rebekah's words, while Elijah comfortingly squeezed her hand, from time to time dropping light kisses on her neck and shoulder.

Before they could discuss things further, Rebekah's phone began ringing. The blond quickly answered the unexpected call.

"Hello, Matt." She warmly greeted the blond boy.

"Hi, Rebekah. Sorry to bother you, but it seems that Elena had gone to New Orleans. You haven't seen her by any chance, have you? She said she'd be home by now, but she's still missing. We can't reach her phone and Jeremy, Caroline, and Damon are starting to freak out…"

Rebekah sighed at the mess of a situation. She sent a glare at her brother who silently chuckled, while Elena wore a deeply apologetic expression.

"You don't have to worry. Elena is…"

The End

Author's Note: The author of this story is waving the white flag in front of her dear, respected readers. I'm aware that you'd like to see a lot of things happening in this story. Most of you know that this story started as a one-shot then it turned into a very tightly knit two-shot and finally a multi-chapter story. It wasn't my intention to write it beyond this point because than I'd need to deal with the mess of both shows. BUT I'm considering writing a sequel. However, before that I want to concentrate on my two awfully neglected stories and the promised one-shot. For the time being this is the end. Thank You for your support and love you showered upon this story and me.

To my guest reviewers:

Guest: I hope you are all right :D Actually, I don't really know. Thanks for the kind words.

Guest: First and foremost, Thank you! I love to read constructive reviews (they are my favourite kind). I know that this plot was not so intricately woven as my other stories but that wasn't a goal here. I hope you liked the morning after!? I'd also like to see what you mentioned, I just don't know how.

tameralee: Thank You!

emaluv: Thank You! I'm very grateful for your continuous support of this story.

Vampires: I intend to finish all my stories. I just don't know how their ending will be with the readers. Thanks!

Guest: Thank You!

Darkangelmi: Thank You! Especially for making the effort of typing up a second review :) I hope you liked the "girls'" reactions to each other. I think I kept the Hayley bashing on a reasonable level as she is in delicate condition. You are right, I haven't thought about the similarity how Davina and Caroline are both try to matchmaking (with the difference that I cheer for the couple which are patronaged by Davina). One-shot about psycho Elijah is in the working process because I'm incapable of writing a story without at least a reasonable back story and plot. It may take time to write it but in return it will be deliciously (overly) long.

guest: Thanks! And from now on I plan to work more on As You Were, which needs a lot more background work because of the era it is in. But I will update it in the not so distant future.

Elejah 4ever: Thank You! (I love the name you wrote your review under. I'm completely agreeing with the sentiment.)

Please, tell me your thoughts :) (Although, if I think carefully that may not be such a good idea to ask for :D But I will risk it.)
