The next few hours passed in a daze for Tavros, his eyes constantly trained on the doorway to look for any sign of the platinum blonde girl that took so much joy in his pain. He must have dozed off because the next thing he knew his brother was standing at his bedside, a small fast food bag in his hand.
"They said I could bring you food, so here.." Rufio said as he set the food aside and helped Tavros sit up. The younger peered from his brother to the bag and then past him, to the doorway and without the question even passing his lips his brother answered for him. "Dad had to work..They won't let him take anymore time off.." Rufio muttered slowly and Tavros frowned but nodded.
"Okay..I thought that would happen soon." he said quietly and Rufio frowned.
"And...I'll need to go back to school soon..Like...Tomorrow..." he said before looking away from Tavros' sad glance. "Sorry.." he added as an after thought. Tavros nodded but said nothing as he reached out for the bag of food, finding it contained his favorite meal he let himself flash a small smile at his brother. Rufio attempted to smile back but after a second he sighed. "So..where is Gamzee?" he asked suddenly as he looked around. Tavros stopped mid-bite and sighed. "He was uh..kicked out.." he said. "because uh...he was too loud and..swore too much." Tavros lied. Rufio nodded and seemed to accept that answer. The day passed without much else, Rufio and Tavros both at a loss of what to say to the other. It was late in the evening when Rufio left, Tavros said nothing to stop him. He knew it was as awkward for his brother as it was for him. Not even two minutes after Rufio had left a nurse came in, she seemed quiet and a bit nervous. " Mr Nitram.." She said "the doctors recommended to remove you from the emergency ward to psychiatry ward." She gave him a bit of a smile. "It's a lot nicer. I'm sure you'll like it a lot better than here."
"Right now?" Tavros said slowly and the nurse nodded. She approached him and gave him a reassuring smile. After pulling his wheelchair to the side of the bed she gently helped him into wheeled him from the room quite another she given him the details but Tavros didn't mind, that he rather liked the chance to think and look around the hospital. The psychiatry ward was located at the back of the hospital, an area that was easily contained and very quiet. He looked around the collection of people already in the ward, many were much older than and seemed to take no notice of the cripple. Tavros was glad as he was pushed into another area even farther back than the first. This area was less filled, he only one other person besides himself and for that he was secretly thankful. The nurse let go and he nodded at her letting her know he could wheel himself over to the others.
"The doctor will show you room and help you get settled in a little while."she said and with that she was gone, disappearing back out into the main part of the ward. Tavros looked around again, his eyes landing on the other boy. He couldn't be any older than Tavros himself and seemed vaguely familiar, with his short stature and dark hair Tavros was sure he'd seen him before. Tavros wheeled himself over the stranger who paid no notice to him, to busy tossing aside a few iteams of clothing from a bag on the floor beside him.
"Excuse me?" Tavros asked. "But do I know you?" He asked quietly finally getting the others attention. When their eyes met Tavros gasped. "Karkat?" he questioned and the boy nodded
"yeah? what's it to you? Do I know you?" Karkat snapped and Tavros slunk back in his chair.
"We had science together and math too...I think." Tavros said and Karkat narrowed his eyes.
"Oh yea.I remember you..You're the quiet kid..Tavros." He muttered. Tavros was astonished.
"You know my name?" he asked and Karkat scoffed.
"'Course I do..gamzee is always talking about you."
Tavros couldn't help the blush that came to his tan cheeks. Karkat saw this and snickered. "So what are you in for?" Karkat asked. Tavros looked away unwilling to talk about it but that didn't stop Karkat. "I'm in here cause I went crazy tried to jump off the roof. My dang brother caught me... But not before calling the ambulance." He muttered the last line is that his brother had committed a sin. Tavros sighed and karkat looked him over, noticing the bandages on his wrist. "Different method same reason." He said Tavros gave a curt nod. "Welcome to the fucking party." Karkat said sarcastically but as Tavros looked up at him he saw a small look of what he could only assume was relief flash through Karkat's eyes. "It'll be nice not to be alone anyway." He heard Karkat say and he couldn't help the small smile that made it's way to his lips. "Yes it will be nice." Tavros agreed. He couldn't help but feel maybe this was a blessing in disguise. Here he was, no longer alone even though his family was unable to be with him for a while. Tavros looked back at karkat who had gotten up and made his way over to the small television that was situated in the middle of the room.
"Wanna watch a fucking movie?" He asked, holding up a DVD case. Tavros nodded and wheeled himself over to sit next to the couch where karkat had parked himself after starting the movie.
Well there you have it..Chapter 5. Why did I have Karkat in here? I thought Tavros could use a friend on the inside and out of all of them I figured karkat would be best.
