It makes me really happy to read your reviews and I'm relieved with the answer the majority of you guys gave me. (I didn't want to write this as something where Germany is Holy Roman Empire) I want give a special shout out to Amy, who is a big fan of this story despite the fact that English isn't her native tongue.

-Chapter 4-

Japan looked at Germany, his hands were still over his mouth with surprise from the the insult to China. "Aya! Still just as mean as before, Ger-" China stopped when Japan glared at him and then continued "Er- Ludwig." Germany tilted his head and removed his hands from his mouth "So I'm a mean person?" Japan shook his head "You're not mean." "You shouldn't lie." China groaned, "Yao, stop teasing him." Japan said wanting to stop this before Germany could get anymore hurt or confused. "Fine then. So what happened to It- Feliciano? Shouldn't he be here?"

Japan took a deep breath and noticed how Germany stiffened when the topic came up. He must have figured out that Italy lied to him. He thought as he weighed what would be the best thing to say. He started to walk toward the airline gate, "So we'll be riding straight to Japan?" he asked hoping to change the topic. China raised an eyebrow wondering what could be going on, "Yeah, at least now I won't have to watch over that dog of yours." China thought as he recalled Japan asking him to look over it. "You have a dog?" Germany asked not remembering Japan mentioning this while he was at the hospital. "Yes, his name is Pochi." Japan stated as he wondered if Pochi will have forgotten Germany. "Is it friendly?" Germany asked, imagining a big ferocious military dog. "Yes, he's very friendly. I doubt you'll have any problems." Japan said with a light chuckle, the very idea of Pochi being threatening amused him.

"Hanno un bel volo!" A flight attendant chirped merrily as she waved to them before they boarded the chinese aircraft. Japan nodded to her quickly before boarding with the others. He sheepishly smiled as he watched Germany's face light up. "You mean this entire plane is just for us?!" Germany exclaimed looking at all the empty seats. "That's right! We could all have window seats if we wanted." China said with a smirk as he watched Germany be in awe. It was funny seeing Germany act as though this was his first time on a plane, and be surprised that they could have a plane all to themselves. Japan smiled "Go ahead and choose a seat." he instructed as he watched Germany explore the aircraft.

"Right." Germany said as he took a seat next to a window and looked through it with an intrigued looked. Japan took a seat next to Germany, despite the opportunity to sit alone. He glanced over to China who wore a surprised expression, that curled into a smile as he took a seat that was far enough that he would give as much privacy as he could. "So do you and your brother live together?" Germany asked, as he turned his head to Japan. Japan shook his head "No I'm..." he paused as he remembered his first battle with China, "I'm independent." he finished with a sad look in his eyes. They continued to speak about the country and Japan's home and relations, though he had to be cautious on what he did and didn't say.

Japan nearly jumped in surprise when he heard the young woman's voice, Germany's face instantly became puzzled when she spoke Chinese. Japan of course was happy to translate for his friend, "She's asking if we'd like any snacks or drinks, what would you like?" Germany furrowed his brow as he took a moment to think. "I'm not really sure, whatever you suggest is fine." Japan internally smiled at this, though he never took the time to think about it Germany never was fussy about his food. It seemed that hadn't changed. Japan simply ordered Germany a beer, figuring he could just make him some food when they got to his house. She nodded at this and walked off, since at airline they keep the alcohol seperate from everything else.

Germany glanced over at China and then returned his gaze to Japan, "So, besides Yao, do you have any other siblings?" Japan looked at Germany with a little surprise at the change of topic. "Yes, though all of them live with Yao." Japan watched Germany get a sympathetic look on his face, "So, you live all by yourself?" Japan blinked and sat in silence for a moment. Germany's comment was unexpected, and the way he gave him this pitying look made him feel odd for lack of a better word. "Well, I do have Pochi." Japan finally said after processing what Germany had just said. Germany gave a fiant smile at this, "...Right." he replied.

Japan laid his head against the headrest and let his heavy eyelids close, a combination of jet lag and showing a lot of emotion had caught up with him. And though he didn't feel like it was wrong to hit Prussia he did feel that it was beneath him, that he should kept his temper in check. Prussia has probably told everyone about it by this point. Japan thought, knowing much Prussia loves gossip. He probably has been retelling to tale in a exaggerated version where he, Japan, looks like the villain. Japan forced his eyes to open as he heard the creaking noise from the trolley being pushed down the aisle by the stourtist. Which Japan felt really wasn't necessary, he had only asked for a beer for Germany.

She flashed Japan a false smile that nearly all stuartists seemed to smile, before giving him the canned beer. "Enjoy!" She chirped before march over to the other side where China sat. Japan turned to the German, "Here, you still drink, right?" Germany stared at the beer for a moment before sighing and taking it from Japan's hand. "I haven't drank even once since having woken up in that hospital bed, but I'm this won't do any harm...Wait, I wasn't an alcoholic or anything was I?" Japan shook his head, "No, though you did like to drink you've always been responsible about it." he knew that he was supposed to let Germany remember things about himself naturally but with what's going on for Germany he should at least have peace at mind when takes a drink.

Germany sincerely smiled, as if Japan had just with few words taken all his stress. "Oh thank goodness. For a moment I thought I might have had an issue with drinking." Japan faintly smiled at Germany's relief, the fact that he had help calm the other down even slightly felt great. Japan put his head back to the chair and fought his eyelids, trying his best to keep them open. As he heard the top of the beer be popped off Germany spoke once again, "You know, it's okay for you to sleep while we're on the way to Japan." Japan blinked his groggy eyes. "Is it really that obvious that I'm tired?" Japan asked, feeling a bit embarrassed. Germany chuckled, "Don't worry about it, it's only human." which only made Japan feel sad. Since neither he nor Germany were human, and eventually Germany would have to remember that. Japan stared at him silent before nodding and giving a false smile at Germany's comment, "...Right..." Japan quietly said as he closed his eyes.

Japan slowly blinked his eyes and went to stretch his arms, when he discovered that there was now a blanket on top of him. He turned his head and his mouth to thank Germany when he saw that there was now only a n empty beer can where he had been sitting. Japan looked around, wondering where Germany could have gone. He spotted Germany, who was just a few rows behind where he had been sitting. Japan stood up, leaving the baby blue blanket in his seat. He approached Germany with a confused expression, "Uh- Why did you change seats?" Germany turned his head to him and smiled "It's because you were sleeping so peacefully and you had been so tired, I didn't want to risk waking you." Japan couldn't help but grin at this act of kindness. "Thanks." Germany cheeks turn slightly pink when he was thanked, "I-it was nothing! Anyway, did you sleep well, Kiku?" Japan nodded as he took a seat next to Germany.

"Yes, I slept quite well." He responded, earning a small sigh of relief from Germany. "I had been worried that you wouldn't get enough rest." Japan felt flattered that he had been worried about him. Germany turned his head back to the window, "You know, being up here in clouds is not as scary as I thought it would be. Even though initially I had been kind of nervous it seems relaxing, and kind of familiar." Japan smiled at this. He put his hands into his pockets, which then reminded him that had left his cellphone on. He pulled his cellphone out from his pocket and noticed the screen flashing, notifying him that he missed a call from Italy. Japan sighed, even just thinking about Italy made him sad. He looked over to Germany and took a deep breath, although it seemed like Germany had already figured out that he was lied to he really should speak to him about the mess.

"...We need to talk about Gilbert and Felciano." Japan stated. "I already know." Germany responded without looking away from the window. "I know that Feliciano and Gilbert were lying to me, that I'm not a maid. You were going to explain that to me, weren't you." Germany finished. "...Are you mad at them?" Japan asked wondering if he was going to have to try to make everyone get along again. Germany's hand tightened on the armrest, "Of course I am. I'm hurt, I'm furious, I'm confused on why they would do that to me." he sighed before continuing "But I know that I forgive them."

Japan's eyes widened in surprise, considering that Germany doesn't have any real memories of how close he was to them it was surprising hearing how he was handling this. "Why?" Japan asked, still stunned by Germany. Germany turned his head to Japan, letting him see his serious expression. "Because I know that they still care. I know that Gilbert was the first to lie, but also know how heart broken he was when I didn't recognize him. And Feliciano was obviously hurt when I didn't recognize him either, I can tell he cares about me. He simply wanted to put some more happiness in my life, without accidentally triggering any memories that I shouldn't be remembering." Japan's expression was filled with awe. "Is something wrong?" Germany asked seeing how he had left Japan speechless. "Yes, I just find it remarkable how you can be so understanding, despite your situation." Japan said with a slight smile.

It looks like Germany-san doesn't need to rely on me, he's still the same strong independent nation he's always been.
