Café Blue
Chapter 2: Date part 1
Ami's POV
While walking to the café I felt really nervous. I never thought that a guy like Tala would have an interest in a mousy person like me. I guess I was still feeling a little nervous that after he got to know me he'd reject me.
I sigh one last time before opening the door to the café and walking straight over to the counter. "Makoto, you're a snake." I said aloud.
"What?" she came over handing me a raspberry ice tea. "I did nothing more than prod that gorgeous guy to go talk to you. Did I mention he was gorgeous?" she asked with a suspicious grin.
I shook my head at her, "I have no idea what we'll talk about." I couldn't imagine him not finding me boring in every way.
"Well, then let him do the talking." She said back to me. Her eyes then looked up as the bell on the door rang from someone entering. "Speak of the devil." She then turned to finish making my sandwich and start on Tala's Coffee order.
I didn't turn to face him, but when he reached the counter he leaned against it facing me. "Hey." He said.
I could feel butterflies in my stomach and I could hear the satisfied grin on his face. Finally turning to face him I had to look up to meet his icy blue eyes. I tried to put on a sweet smile as I said Hello back.
He grabbed his coffee not taking his eyes off me, "thanks" he said to Mako. I could feel the heat rise in my cheeks again as we stared into each other eyes, so I tore mine away from him and back to face Mako who was grinning at me and raised her eyebrows.
"Shall we?"
I turned back to face Tala who was motioning me to walk in front of him. I nodded and walked away from the counter, he ushered me to a corner table. Not my usual seat, as if I couldn't be more out of my element.
This date started with an awkward silence as I sipped at my tea; meanwhile he never took his eyes off me.
"So…" he finally interjected to get the conversation started, "aside from reading, what do you do for fun?" He asked.
I looked up at him and bit my bottom lip before replying, "I like to play Chess."
His eyes widened. "That's cool! Doesn't that game take a lot of intelligence?"
I giggled at his remark, "It's not as complicated as you think. It's quite fun actually."
He put his hand behind his head, "I'm ashamed to say I've never played it before."
"I'll teach you." I said without even thinking about it. It slipped out so fast I couldn't take it back now.
A grin formed on Tala's face, "I'd like that."
I now looked down and blushed, what had I just gotten myself into again.
"So," He started again, "do you work?"
"Um, no. I'm studying to be a doctor."
"Wow, a chess player and an MD. You're a triple threat." He stated.
I looked back up at him curious, "those are only two things."
He laughed "Sorry I thought the third was obvious," He looked at me with those serious eyes, "I was counting your beauty too."
My heart skipped and I could feel the heat rise up to my neck and cheeks. I looked down trying to avoid his much alluring smile. I had to get the focus off me and back on him.
"And you?" I questioned, "what do you do?" I looked back up to see him blush.
"Uh, nothing as admirable with my time as you do with yours." I could see he was trying to hide something.
"Nothing? Even after your career as a BeyBlader?" I questioned.
His blush darkened and he looked at me shock on his face. "Uh" was the sound he made as he looked down rubbing the back of his neck in a nervous habit. He then looked back up with an embarrassed grin, "so, you know about that." He laughed.
I couldn't help bringing my hand up to hide my giggle. "Well you were pretty famous." I pointed out. "I have to admit, I sort of had a crush on you back then." Heat rose to my cheeks but I ignored it, I was still smiling at the memory of watching him on TV.
One red eyebrow rose and his confident grin returned to its proper place. "Did you play?"
"Me?" I asked incredulous, "No, I was a huge fan of the sport, but I'm not much of an athlete."
"I could teach you." He answered smoothly knowing very well that he was feeding my own words back at me. "An intelligent woman like yourself, it'll be a piece of cake." His words of prodding and commendation seemed effortless when he spoke. And I had to admit to myself that his confidence was highly attractive.
