"No, sir."
"Beckett honesty on your part would be greatly appreciated right now. In fact I would like to remind you that we have discrimination policies in place that keep me from firing you."
"Firing me? For what?"
"You should have come to me. If your life was in danger you should have told me."
"What were you going to do about it?"
"I could have helped you, if you would just let me."
"I didn't want to drag anyone else into this. This whole thing has already reeked enough havoc on my life. I am just trying to move past it."
"Why don't you start at the beginning?"
"It started when I got shot."
"Okay," Gates nods.
"When I was in the hospital the doctor informed me that I had a brain tumor."
"Come again?"
"I was in denial, so I chose not to treat it."
"Do you..."
"No. It was a clerical error of sorts."
"But you didn't know that?"
"No," she shakes her head.
"For how long?"
"Up until a couple of months ago."
"So this whole time you thought that you had a brain tumor?"
"Yes."
"Were you sick?"
"No."
"How did you find out that you didn't have a brain tumor?"
"Castle."
"Of course," she nods.
"A few months ago someone approached Esposito."
"Why?"
"They wanted to use him as a tool to drive a wedge between Castle, and I."
"Why?"
"They were afraid that together we would be able to figure out who they are."
"Did it work?"
"Yes."
"Your relationship with him still hasn't recovered?"
"No."
"And the two of your aren't trying to figure out who was blackmailing you?"
"It's complicated."
"Because?"
"Rick won't let me."
"Let you?" Victoria cocks an eyebrow.
"My life has been threatened."
"That has never stopped you before," Gates points out.
"It's different this time."
"Why? Please don't say because of the baby, this time."
Kate stares up at her with a guilty look on her face.
Gates sighs, "So it's because of the baby?"
Beckett nods, "Yes."
"You're pregnant?"
"Yes."
"I see. How far along?"
"Five and a half months."
"Five and a half months?" She arches her eyebrow.
"Yes," Kate nods with a guilty look on her face.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I guess that I was afraid to."
"Why?"
"I hate desk duty."
"I have a feeling there are a lot of details that you are leaving out for my benefit."
"You could say that."
"I don't understand why you didn't come to me."
"I thought that... it doesn't matter what I thought happened. It was all a set up."
"What can I do to help?"
Kate shrugs, "I don't think that there is anything you can do."
She enters the apartment, and finds that dinner is already on the table. She slides onto a bar stool next to Richard. She stares at her plate, and then looks at him.
"You didn't have to make me dinner."
"I figured that you would be hungry."
"Not really," she shakes her head.
"The painters are supposed to come next week."
"The painters? For what?"
"To paint the nursery."
"The nursery? Rick she's not going to be here for months, and months."
"It doesn't hurt to be prepared."
"I think we should hold off on painting."
"I already picked colors."
"When?"
"While you were working."
"Where are you going to put her?"
"Upstairs."
"You can't put her upstairs..."
"I thought that you would want to stay up there with her, since you obviously don't want to share a bed with me."
"Rick just stop. Stop trying to push me. Stop trying to rush me. Okay? I am not ready to make this big of a commitment."
"We're having a baby."
"I understand that, but you're trying to rush me. You want happily ever after, and quite frankly I'm not sure that I can give it to you. I am not ready to pick up where we left off."
"And where we are is driving me crazy. There has been no progress. We fight about the same things every single day. Kate either you're in, or you're out."
She pushes her seat away from the counter, "Then I'm out," she heads for the door. He follows after her.
"Where are you going?" He questions.
She shrugs, "I don't know."
He steps between her and the door. She glares at him.
"Get out of my way!"
He shakes his head, "No."
"I have a gun, and I'm not afraid to use it."
"Kate," he grabs her by the shoulders.
"Let go of me!" She tries to push him away.
"You belong here," he reminds her, just above a whisper.
