Leo's POV
"Leo? You still okay?" Don's voice came from the hallway. I rolled over to face the wall, taking a deep breath.
"Yeah." I stated flatly.
"I need to do a quick check-up on you, can I come in?" He asked. I heard the door creak open a bit.
"I guess so." I replied, not turning to face him. The mattres shifted as he sat down.
"Do you have a headache? Does anything hurt?" Don asked, the sound of him digging though his first-aid kit for something echoing through my ears.
"Kinda." I answered, "My eyes feel weird."
"Well that's expected." He said, "Can you sit up for me?" I nodded and pulled myself up, almost falling off the bed because I wasn't aware I was so near the edge.
"Will you be able to fix it?" I asked softly, facing the direction of his voice. He didn't answer right away, which worried me.
"I'll just have to see what we're dealing with first." He said after a long pause. I nodded, "I need to get a blood sample, just so you know." I heard a clink and held my arm out, "Here it comes." He said. I let out a little groan.
"I know." I said, feeling a tiny pinch in my upper arm.
"Okay, you're good." He said. The bed shifted as he stood.
"Wanna come in for some dinner?" Don asked, his feet softly tapping as he walked away from the bed.
"Pizza?" I asked, pushing the covers away and pulling my legs over the side.
"Yup. Don't worry, Mikey got his own this time." He said, walking over to help me up and linking an arm in mine.
"Thank goodness." I said with a smile. Don laughed a little, leading me out of my room, "C-can I walk alone please?" I asked, facing the direction of his voice. Don let out a little sigh.
"Leo," He started, "I don't think so. You could fall and get hurt. Let's wait until you're used to being blind." I stopped, making Don jerk back.
"I'm not blind. This is only temporary" I said sternly, hoping I was looking straight into his eyes.
"Well, you might as well get used to it." He said, trying to get me to walk.
"Donnie. Let me walk alone." I said, pulling my arm away.
"Leo-"
"Don."
"Leonardo." Don said. I had a feeling that he was crossing his arms. My jaw tightened at hearing my full name. He's my little brother; I'm not his.
"Don, I am not a child, let me walk alone." I said, starting to walk forward a bit. I felt my arm be grabbed and I stepped back.
"I know you're not a kid Leo. But you need help walking around just as Mikey needed help doing things on his own." Don said.
"Donnie, please. I can do this." I said, stepping away from his voice.
"Leo," Don started, his voice raising, " I don't like this any more then you do. You are handicapped and until you get used to it, you're gonna need help. Now swallow your pride and come on." I clenched my fists and grit my teeth.
I faced the oppisite direction as he lead me to the kitchen.
"There's some steps here." He said, getting slower and stepping down. I nodded and slid my foot carefully down.
"Ah!" I said, accidentaly skipping a step and almost falling. Don grabbed me and pulled me back up.
"Told ya." I heard Don mutter.
"Shut it." I told him, my face hot from embarrasment. His breathig changed and I guessed that he probably didn't expect me to hear that, "I may be blind but I'm sure as heck not deaf." I said, wanting to walk away triumphantly but knowing I couldn't because I'd probably run into a wall or something and make a complete fool of myself (even more then I already did).
"Just come on." Don said, frustration in his voice. I smirked a little, keeping my face to the ground, "We're here." He said, letting go and walking away. I carefully made my way to the table and plopped down in my seat.
"Mornin' Leo." Mikey's voice came from behind me. I looked up and turned around.
"It's not morning Mikey." I said.
"You're talking to the wall bro." Mikey said. I hear the chair slid out across from me and assumed he was sitting down. I blushed a little, turning to face the table (or, I think was the table).
"I'm guessing that you still can't see?" He asked, almost in a whisper.
"Yeah, it kinda sucks." I said with a little shrug.
"I-it'll probably wear off by tomorrow." Mikey said, reaching across the table and patting my hands. I faced away and pulled my hands down to my lap. Mikey kept silent, not even making a sound as he breathed.
"Sorry." I apologized. Mikey let out a quick breath through his nose (he was probably smiling).
"It's okay. It's-" Mikey started, pausing to (I'm guessing) look down at his arm nub, "it's just something you have to get used to." I nodded, not looking up. I had to take a deep breath to keep from breaking out crying.
"I-I don't want to get used to it." I said with a little cough. I started silently crying, holding a hand up to my eyes. Three arms wrapped around me and I started crying harder. I felt like a little kid again, crying and having to be comforted by somebody.
"S-sorry." I coughed, pushing them away. I pushed myself up and timidly walked to the door, "Don, help me to the couch." I said when I couldn't find the opening. I felt an arm link into mine and knew it was Donnie (either that or Mikey was standing backwards).
"Don't be sorry for being upset Leo." Don said, stopping so I could step down. I stayed quiet, not wanting to face him, "I'll bring in your pizza when it gets here."
"Thanks." I said, running my hand over the seat around me, "Wait, can you, uh, turn on the TV?" I asked quietly. There was a little tapping sound, followed by some clicking, and the TV turning on with a beep. I listened, hearing the theme song of Space Heroes .
"What episode is it?" I asked with a little smile. I heard a little tap of the remote being put down.
"Uh, let's see; 'Ryan must tangle with the greatest enemy of all; LOVE.'" Don stated dramticly, reading the beginning credits. I nodded, leaning forward to listen, "Ew." Don commented.
"What? What happened?" I asked, squinting to at least try to see.
"The one lady just, uh, well," Don said, I could tell he was uncomfortable, "she just licked Ryan's face. Ew." I nodded, recalling the episode, "Can I leave?" He asked.
"Go ahead." I said, trying to listen. Donnie's feet softly tapped on the cold concrete as he walked away. There were a few sounds of the ray guns firing on TV. I'd forgot that this episode didn't really have any talking and none of the sounds really helped me know what was happening. I sighed and leaned back, still listening.
"Pizza's here!" Raph called from behind me. The smell of pizza sauce and cheese filled the room and my mouth watered.
"You feeling better Leo?" Raph asked, his knees cracking as he bent down beside me.
"Yeah, I'll be better once I have my pizza." I said with a little smirk and trying to face the direction of Raph's voice.
"Come on into the kitchen." Raph said, taking a deep breath as he stood back up. My smile faded and I faced the other way.
"C-can you help me?" I asked quietly, my face getting red in embaraasment. Raph stayed quiet.
"Why do you need help?" He wondered as I carefully stood up.
"Donnie won't let me walk on my own." I answered, turning around to face him.
"I'll tell ya how to get there," He said, "First, take a small step forward and two big steps up." I nodded, following his directions. I tripped on the second step and hit hard.
"Ow." I muttered, sitting up and rubbing my head. I didn't hear anyone there, "Raph?" I asked pitifly, moving my head back and forth, "D-Donnie?" I begged, starting to shake. I don't even know why I was so scared. Maybe it was the fact that I was lost in a black void. Lost in my own home. Or that nobody was around to hear me. Or the fact that my arm hurt like heck and was probably bleeding.
"Donnie!" I called, a little louder this time. My voice shook and I had a lump in my throat. Where am I? I wondered, trying to listen for clues. If I could only hear the water over near the entrance to our rooms. Or smell the incense that Splinter always burned. Or smell the pizza. Aha! The pizza! I shakely stood and turned around.
"Where are you pizza?" I muttered, sniffing the air every so often, "There." I said, smelling the very potent smell of Mikey's sardine pizza. For once, I was thankful for Mikey's weird taste in food. I slid my feet forward, careful not to run into a wall or something. I had one arm out in front of me, trying to find the wall near the kitchen. The smell got stronger and I ran into something. I grunted as I hit and ran my hands along the wall.
Curtain. Where's the curtain? Maybe I was going in the wrong direction-here! My hand hit the stone doorframe and I felt the tattered old curtain.
"Guys! I made it!" I exclaimed, stepping in.
"Took ya long enough." Raph muttered, his words slurred (probably because he was eating pizza).
"Raph! He ran into something!" Don scolded, his feet tapping as he ran over to me, "I told you we shouldn't have done this!"
"But he did make it Don." Mikey noted, his words slurred too. My smile faded and I felt like a kid again.
"Thanks Raph. I was scared to death." I said, feeling Don touch my head and shoulder to inspect the cuts, "Ow! That hurts."
"Sorry, I'll be right back with bandages." Donnie said, the curtain fluttering as he left.
"Pizza?" Mikey asked, nudging me with something. I smelt the strong smell of sardine and crinkled my nose.
"I'll have cheese." I said, running my hand along the table and finding my seat.
"Here ya go." Raph said. I heard a sliding sound and felt a cold plate hit my forearm.
"Thanks." I said, taking a big bite of the steaming slice.
