I don't own either Percy Jackson & the Olympians or the Wardstone Chronicles. Enjoy!
Lamia, Athena and Artemis were watching Zeus and Hera. They all had drinks, that Artemis had summoned, in their hands. They also all had a small smile, which grew bigger whenever a very good insult was made. And both gods were pretty good at insults.
Which wasn't a surprise. They had had centuries of practise, after all. ll they ever really did was fight. Either with each other or with the rest of the gods.
Their entire marriage had consisted of fighting. Their marriage wasn't a happy one of course. Zeus had forced Hera to marry him, her own brother, so it was no miracle their marriage wasn't a good one. It was already bad enough that Zeus had raped Hera, as practically everyone knew, and forced her to marry him.
What made it even worse, was that Zeus was her own brother. Even if gods were so different than humans and had no DNA, that was still pretty weird. Add to those three things that Zeus was also an enormous womanizer and his biggest hobby was cheating, and you had one of the worst marriages in the existence of marriage. No wonder both weren't happy and fighting all the time.
Why wouldn't they be? They both had enough to blame on the other. Hera could blame Zeus for raping her, forcing her to marry him, cheating and veing stuck him forever. Being the goddess of marriage, Hera couldn't even divorce him. Or cheat to give him his own medicine. Every woman would get depressed of being stuck in a marriage like that. A marriage that would endure for all eternity. Or until the gods faded or were overthrown. If Hera wasn't such a mean person, that enjoyed the pain of innocent people, you would feel sorry for her.
Although Zeus also had some things to blame on Hera. Hera had destroyed lots of lives after all. Especially the lives of his children and mistresses. She had driven Heracles, or Hercules ( A/N his name has different versions. I think the Greek version is Heracles), mad and made him destroy his own family. And although his madness was caused by Hera, he had to fulfill twelve works before his deeds were forgiven. He might have been a jerk, but his family didn't have to pay for it.
And Hera had only done this to him, because she had been mad at Zeus. That wasn't fair at all. Her husband cheated and she punished he cheated in her with and their children. Some women might be deserve it, but not all. And the children definitely didn't desere it. They had never done anything and yet , they were punished. For existing.
She always reacted to Zeus' affairs like that. She punished the women and children and left Zeus alone. Definetely something Zeus could blame on Hera and be mad at her for. Hurting his innocent children was definitelty something to be mad about.
Although he wasn't innocent. He was the one cheating. And when his mistresses and children were attacked by Hera, he didn't do anything. Even if the rules declared he couldn't help his children, it was still mean he didn't do anything. No wonder his children felt rejected and often hated him.
So Zeus could blame Hera for destroying the life of his mistresses and children, but he was guilty too. He could have helped them in some way or at least showed them he cared. Or not cheat at all. It wasn't entirely Hera's fault if you looked at it that way.
The only real thing he could blame Hera for, was making his life miserable. But even that might be his fault. He had forced her to marry and continued to cheat on her , again and again. She had never wanted to be with him. He made her life miserable too.
Surprisingly, if you looked at it like this, Hera was the lesser of two evils. In their relationship at least.
In the behavior regarding demi-gods, she was definitely worse than Zeus. She despised demi-gods and made their lives even harder.
Zeus might be a horrible father, like most gods, but at least he didn't punish demi-gods without a good reason. Well, he mostly didn't do that. Sometimes he did, but he didn't regularly and for his own amusement, like Hera.
" You ignorant, pathetic, poor excuse of a husband!".
" You old, complaining peacock!"( A/N this is all shouting, but I believe capital letters are really annoying to read, so I am not using capital letters)
" How dare you! Peacock isn't an insult!".
" It is! To the peacocks!".
" You are the worst insult there is, you obtuse, annoying, infuriating piece of shit!".
" Well, you are worse than I am! You bossy, dumb, ugly, hag!".
" You liar! All of those things are nonsense, you cheating, no good, brother ".
" Stop calling me that!".
" I will stop when you either stop cheating or I can get a divorse while remaining queen!".
" Never!".
" Urgh! So you won't even stop your endless cheating for me?".
" Do you even understand the meaning of the word endless? And it's your fault I act like this! No one should have to spent the eternity with you! It's too horrible!".
" You are the one who raped me and forced me to marry you!".
" I must have been drunk at that time! Or momentarily crazy!".
" Forget the momentarily! You are crazy!".
" Says the women who is the description of crazy!".
"And what would that be?!".
" You!".
" That doesn't even make sense, you vlacas!".
" It does, you mounapano!".
" What did you just call me?" Hera hissed, her eyes and voice filled with venom.
Artemis sighed. " Now he is going to get it".
Athena nodded. " That was very unwise of father. Hera is going to perish him for that".
Lamia smiled slightly. " That would be a sight to see".
Athena and Artemis both looked at her with slightly raised eyebrows. " He is our father" Athena pointed out.
Artemis nodded. " I might despise men, but even I love my father. I don't want him in Tartarus".
"Well it seems like he will be there. Hera sure does mad enough to throw him into it. In both the meanings" Lamia said while looking at Hera, who was getting redder ever minute and glowed. The look in her eyes was very mad indeed.
Artemis frowned, confused for a moment. " In both ways?".
Athena rolled her eyes. " She contemplated Hera is both mad as in angry and mad as in crazy. And she is right. Hera is angry at this moment and she has been crazy as long as I can remember".
" You probably shouldn't say that" Artemis said. Hera really didn't like insults. Which you could easily detect from the way she was shouting at Zeus right now.
" That's it mister! You are so sleeping on the couch! And don't thing you can just leave and screw some pretty girl, because I won't have any of that you ΚΥΝΤΕΡΟΣ!.
Zeus remained silent for a moment, staring at her. He looked stunned, his mouth a little open.
" What! How dare you call me that, you-".
" You nothing! Stop insulting me, you ΡΩΠΟΠΕΡΠΕΡΗΘΡΑΣ!".
Lamia looked at Zeus and Hera, who were still shouting insults at each other. The insults were getting nastier. Especially Hera' was surprisingly good at coming up with very creative, and nasty, insults.
" I honestly don't contemplate those two will notice anything except each other. Hera hasn't even heard what I orated".
Artemis rolled her eyes. " Orated? By me Lamia, you and Athena really need to stop talking like an english dictionary".
" He! What is there wrong with english dictionaries? I enjoy reading them " Athena protested.
" You read dictionaries?" Artemis asked, disbelief clear in her voice.
Athena shrugged. " Yes. Why are you querying"?
" Because I fail to understand why anyone would read an entire dictionary. Besides, I would have anticipated you wrote them rather than read them, with your vocubulary. And querying? Seriously? You can just say asking, you know".
" It is indeed possible to make use of the word asking instead of querying, but being the goddess of wisdom, I prefer my use of speech to give away I'm actually intelligent".
"We all already know that. No need to remind us every day" Artemis said, her eyebrows raised.
" Yes, but-".
" What is a dictionary?" Lamia suddenly asked, interrupting one of Athena's upcoming lectures. Which was only positive, since these could last hours and be very... boring.
Athena and Artemis stared at her, their small debate forgotten. Hera and Zeus were still yelling at each other, but both Athena and Artemis ignored them. They were too occupied staring at Lamia like she had suddenly grown a second head. Which wouldn't be that weird and impossible, considering her past, actually.
" You don't know what a dictionary is?" Artemis finally asked.
Lamia shook her head. " No. We don't have it in my time. Not as far as I know at least. So what is it?".
Athena shook her head, the same expression of disbelief on her face. " Unbelievable. The first dictionaries were invented roughly around 2300 BC, so you should cognize-" Artemis shot her an annoyed look, pretty much saying ; stop playing for dictionary already.
Athena sighed. " -I mean you should know what they are. But then again, those dictionaries were from Elba, which is now Syria, so you probably don't know them".
Artemis sighed. " No Athena, of course she knows them! She has always lived near Syria! It was possible for her to travel to Syria easily when she was born!".
Athena frowned. " Am I right to detect sarcasm? Or are you actually that bad at geography?".
Artemis face palmed. " By us Athena, for such a smart person, you are horrible at detecting sarcasm. And by the way, it was sarcasm. Quite obvious, I believe".
Athena shrugged. " I just find it hard to believe anyone would use sarcasm towards me, the goddess of wisdom".
" Athena, you know you are my best friend, but your arrogance can be astonishing. If you were mortal, your flaw would be hubris".
Athena snorted. " I am perfectly capable of keeping my ego under control. I would never let something pitiful as arrogance get the best of me".
Lamia smiled. " You do realize that what you just said, is very arrogant? And slightly denigrating".
Athena shrugged. " It isn't really arrogance. It is the mere truth".
" No, it is arrogance. And saying it is the mere truth is arrogance too" Artemis disagreed.
Athena narrowed her eyes. " No, it isn't. It is the truth, because I would never be obtuse enough to lose in any way because of arrogance. I would foresee anything coming or when I don't see it coming, quickly think of a plan to rescue myself and the rest of the world. Besides, gods and goddesses don't even have flaws. Posessing flaws is something for mortals".
" Well, arrogance could still be your upcoming doom Athena".
" Dramatic much. Are you suddenly like father?".
" No. If I were, I would say it in some weird, deep voice and make it thunder and- Wait a minute! Did you just say I am acting like a man?". Artemis sounded really upset now. She really, really hated men. Excluding her father. Msot of the times.
" Not really. I compared your behavior to our father. I intented to point out you seemed to inherit one of your parents characteristics rather than say you were actually like him. Besides, he is our father. I don't really envision him as a man, just as himself".
" Oh believe me, he is a man" Lamia muttered. She remembered again how it had been to be with him. To feel safe, warm and beloved.
Both Athena and Artemis looked at her. " What exactly do you intend to clearify with that remark Lamia?" Athena asked.
Lamia shrugged. " Well, I can anticipate the two of you see Zeus differently than other women because he is your father, but he isn't mine. So I assume I just see him in a different light than you".
" All right. What do you think of him then?" Artemis asked, her curiousity barely hidden.
Lamia raised one of her eyebrows. " I believe it is quite obvious what I think of your father".
Artemis shrugged. " All right, but what did you think of him before you got to know him?".
Lamia frowned. She didn't really know what to answer to that. She had thought a lot of Zeus when she hadn't known him well. Well, not his personality that is. She had known his body quite well after their first encounter though.
" Well, I thought various things about your father. When I first met him, I couldn't help but notice he was handsome and felt attracted to him. But I also instinctively knew something wasn't right about him, that he was hiding something. So I thought of him as handsome, intriguing and maybe also a bit dangerous. The unknown is often dangerous. When I got to know him better, I admired him. I admired his strong personality and how fear seemed to be foreign to him. That was something I envied. But I didn't know he was a god at first. And gods don't really have a lot to fear".
" Well, he sure is afraid of Hera" Artemis said with a smile, gesturing at Zeus cowering while Hera come close to him and yelled.
Lamia chuckled. "True. But madness is always frigthtening, because it is unpredictable".
Athena nodded. "True. Truly mad people aren't just dangerous, because they undertake actions normal people wouldn't think of, but also because they are unpredictable. Most people prefer things to be predictable, so they know how to react to them".
Lamia smiled. " Too true. When you know what to expect, it is a lot easier to make a decesion. To undertake an action. It makes basically everything easier".
"Well, not everything. Some things you can predict, can still be very difficult. Like-".
" Listen Athena, not that I don't enjoy listening to your lectures about every subject on earth possible, we probably have to stop Zeus and Hera before they destroy everything" Artemis interrupted her. She looked slightly worried.
Athena looked around her and her eyes widened. A heavy storm was going on outside and the earth was shaking slightly. Trees, living creatures and Olympus itself were struck by lighting that illuminated the sky. Some mortals were already hurt. Not that you could see that from here.
Around them, the air was filled with electricty and the atmosphere was tense, like something was about to explode. The fight between Hera and Zeus would either already have hurt people or was about to hurt people.
" You are right Artemis, we have to seperate those two before someone is seriously injured. And I can always give you one of my lectures later, if you like them so much".
Lamia sighed. " Athena, Artemis used sarcasm again. I don't anticipate she believes all your lectures are interesting".
Athena narrowed her eyes at Lamia. " Are interpretating that my lectures aren't interesting and useful?".
" No, I'm interpretating that to some people, not all of them are interesting. I suppose they are always useful. Why would the goddess of wisdome give useless lectures? That wouldn't make sense".
Athena smiled. " Very well spoken Lamia. Although I fail to see why Artemis wouldn't be more than willing to listen to my lectures".
" Becaue I am busy" Artemis said over her shoulder while she walked towards the two bickering gods, careful not to come too close. They would probably kill her if she did. Not that she could really die, but she could feel pain. And Hera and Zeus could inflict a lot of pain on her.
She stopped at a safe distance and looked at Athena. " How exactly are we going to seperate them?".
Athena shrugged. " Just let me". She stepped forward and clapped her hands, before raising her voice. " Discontinue your useless bickering for a moment to receive the following information. We have discussed the reason for Lamia's presence here and come to the following conclusion; it is a trap. She is just a pawn in a large, carefully planned attack to overthrow us. So do you want to continue arguing about nothing or actually save yourselves?".
Hera immediately lost interest in Zeus, her eyes now focused on Lamia. Uh oh. Now I'm in trouble Lamia thought when she saw the murderous, crazy look in the eyes of the queen of heaven. The queen of heaven seemed to remember Lamia again, no longer distracted by Zeus. And she had a reason to be angry. This all had started after Lamia had attacked Hera after all. Hera wasn't going to be calm and rational about that. No, she was going to destroy Lamia's life again.
" So that little whore works for one of our enemies?" she hissed, taking a step towards Lamia.
Athena shook her head and took a step towards Hera, the look in her eyes cold and calculating but also slightly angry. She obviously hadn't forgotten that what Hera had called her mother. " No Hera, Lamia is innocent. She has been completely oblivious to this since she arrived. Our nemesis, whoever he may be, has slyly used her without her actually acknowledging it".
Hera snorted. " So what if she was oblivious? She is still a betrayer, a whore and a danger. Or have you all forgotten what she has done? Do you really believe she has changed?".
" I know she has. She is no longer that monstrious being. She is a kind person and could be a powerful ally. We will need her".
Hera narrowed her eyes at Athena. " Don't resist me child. I don't have to listen to you".
Athena shrugged. " Strictly not no. But you would be a complete idiot if you didn't listen".
Hera took a step towards Athena, her gaze focused on Lamia for a second before looking at Athena again. " Now you listen, you ignorant woman. I don't know if you have noticed, but I am the queen. If anyone is following orders, it will be you".
Athena raised one of her eyebrows, not impressed by the hateful expression Hera currently wasn't easily scared. " I wasn't given any orders, I was merely offering my proffesional opinion on certain matters that concerns all of us. But we don't have time to debate about this. We need to react quickly, before the enemy strikes first. They already have an advantage. We don't know who they are and they will use it against us".
Hera straightened. " And what if it is a double trap? What if Lamia is actually working for the enemy, but is acting like a friend to deceive us. That is a very likely possibility".
" She isn't. I am not easily deceived and Lamia has proven she is no longer what she once was. Besides, I have done some research and discovered Lamia was brought to camp halfblood immediately. She hasn't been anywhere else. And she arrived at camp halfblood unconscious. No one have had the opportuntiy to contact her. It's very unlikely that she is a nemesis" Athena defended Lamia.
" Unlikely, but not impossible" Hera pointed out. She sounded very smug and satisfied, convinced she would win this debate. Which was stupid to think, because she was debating with Athena, who never lost battles like this.
" Not impossible, but we would be fools if we started to distrust her. She could be a formidable ally. A house divided against itself cannot stand. Meaning, we will lose if we fight our allies".
" She isn't an ally" Hera spat, her eyes full of hate. " She is just a worthless whore. A pathetic, little slut. Useless!".
Lamia took a few step forward, angry. " I am not any of that! I made a mistake, a horrible one, I will admit that. But I am not a slut and neither did I want any of it to happen. But now I have the opportunity to do something good, I will. Even if I have to die for it".
Hera pursed her lips. " I don't trust you! You are a monster, like you have always been".
" I was an innocent woman long before I became that thing! And I have changed! I am no longer what I once was".
" A prostitute? How do you earn your money now then?".
Lamia took a deep breath, resisting the urge to slap Hera as hard as possible. No matter how satisfying that would be, violence wasn't the solution here. Not all battles are fought with swords. Words are often more powerful than swords. " You know very well, queen Hera, that I am not a prostitute. Nor was I ever one. I was a sorcerer and queen, just like you are now. And I once might have been a monster, but I have changed and believe me, I feel horrible about all my crimes".
" Do you dare to call me a liar?" Hera hissed. She looked angrier than ever, ready to blast Lamia into a thousand pieces.
Zeus suddenly stepped forward and stopped Hera when she raised her hand to destroy Lamia. " Stop it Hera. Leave her alone, you have already harmed her enough. Besides, we have to focus on this enemy now, not on her".
Hera turned, facing Zeus. " You trust her?" she spat. Now she looked ready to murder, or try to since gods are impossible to kill, him.
Zeus shrugged. " I see no reason why not. And I trust Athena. She would know it if Lamia tried to deceive us".
Hera balled her fists. " So you chose to to believe your daughter over your own wife ?".
" No, I chose to trust the goddess on wisdom and battle strategy to know whether someone is an ally or a nemesis" Zeus answered, giving Hera a warning look.
Hera looked extremely angry, but didn't say anything. " Fine" she mummbled, giving Lamia another hateful look. " I won't say anything then".
Zeus relaxed a little bit and looked at Athena. "Athena. Do you have any idea who this enemy could be?".
Athena shook her head. " No father, but he must be extremely powerful. To open a portal from another dimension and time towards this one requires a tremendous amount of power. It could be Cronus. He has that kind of power. Maybe he wasn't destroyed like we thought he was. But that's unlikely. Maybe Chaos? He is very powerful too".
Zeus nodded grimly. "It could be. And I think you are right. Only someone very powerful could bring Lamia here. We will need to be careful. There might be another war coming".
Athena sighed. " I certainly hope there won't be another war, but it is possible. We will need a plan father".
Zeus nodded. " I will go to the throne room together with Hera. Inform everyone there will be a meeting. Say it is very urgent. We will need to work together".
Zeus turned and walked away with Hera, who cast another hateful look at Lamia. Lamia didn't flinch and just ignored her. Hera wasn't worth her time, not now they were all in danger. She would worry about her later.
Athena sighed. "We will have to inform all the other gods. There is a good chance we will have another war".
Lamia sighed. " My arrival has brought you so many problems. Now there might be even a war going on. I'm sorry".
Athena shrugged. " You shouldn't be. You bear no responsibility in this case". She didn't look really worried. She mainly looked annoyed.
" Besides, with all those idiotic males as rulers of the earth, a war would happen anyway" Artemis added, rolling her eyes.
Athena smiled slightly. " You are absolutely right Artemis. Especially with Poseidon existing, a war is bound to happen. He already almost started one. The idiot".
" He didn't steal the lighting bolt Athena. Ares did".
" That is true, but Poseidon did start a war with Zeus. The world was nearly destroyed!".
" Didn't Zeus start it?".
" Well, if Poseidon wouldn't act so idiotic all the time and insult father, father wouldn't have a reason to suspect Poseidon. So it's all Poseidon's fault really".
" Thank you for the trust owlhead" a voice behind them said. They all turned to see Poseidon walking towards them. He was dressed like always, like he was going to the beach instead of being a powerful god going to a meeting or stopping storms.
Athena looked very annoyed. " What on earth are you doing here kelp head?".
Poseidon smiled. " Can I not just visit my dearest brother?" he mocked.
Athena sighed. " No seriously, why are you here?".
Poseidon shrugged. " I heard a lot of screaming and decided to see what was happening".
Athena raised one of her eyebrows. " Why would you feel the need to do so? There is always screaming here. Most gods act like irresponsible idiots like yourself".
Poseidon rolled his eyes. " Very funny feather brain. But I just had the feeling there was trouble. And I was right, or you wouldn't be here".
" Has the thought ever occured to you that there is trouble when people, especially two powerful gods, are fighting? Or do you believe the destruction of the world is not a problem?".
Poseidon chuckled. " You are acting like your father now, being dramatic".
" I am most certainly not!".
" Yes you are!".
" Oh please, I am the goddess of wisdom. It would be immature, useless and simply ridiculous to be dramatic".
" Well the destruction of the world sounds dramatic to me all right".
" Well, maybe that is because you posess little to no brain cells and believe a game room being destroyed is already a tragedy".
" It took me years to built that! I loved that gameroom. I would have sacrificed you for it any time. Wait, that is not a good example. I would be glad to have you no longer around, bugging me. A gameroom is much more valuable".
" Oh please, a gameroom is nothing compared to me. I am more valuable than anything else. You should have sacrificed yourself though. The gameroom was definetely a lot more useful than you. Do you even have a purpose?".
" Of course I have! I am the supreme ruler of the sea! I am one of the big three".
" You believe you are of any significance, because you rule the sea and are one of the big three. That might be impressive if you weren't you. You manage to ruin and abuse every bit of power you have. What is happening to the seas in the present? They are being polluted and sea animals are treated horribly. A good ruler of the sea would do something about this. And you being part of the big three only means trouble. You start wars with my father about nothing and destroy entire villages just to brag about your power. You are not only useless, you are also destructive and obtuse. Instead of using this powers for what they were intended for, you use them to cause mayhem and destruction. A good ruler would never do that. A good ruler would protect his kingdom instead of toying with it like you do".
The earth shook slightly while Poseidon reddened. Not from embarressment, but anger. " You dare to say that? I care for the sea more than anything else, but I can't do everything. I'm trying, but even I can't avoid all the pollution and abuse of the sea animals. And your father is worse than me. At least, I don't threaten and try to blast innocent children. And at least I don't turn beautiful maidens into enormous spiders or snake-like monsters. Really Athena, who of us is wrong now".
Athena rolled her eyes. " . I'm the goddes of wisdom, it is ridicule to contemplate I am wrong. Besides, if I ruled your kingdom, it would be something remarkable instead of trash like you. I would use intellect instead of violence to rule it. It would finally have some significance".
The earth started shaking harder, Poseidon's trident giving off a strong light. He looked really mad now, his green eyes darkened because of his anger. He didn't attack or anything though. He held back. Probably because even he understood if he would attack, he would only prove Athena's point that he was a brainless, aggresive idiot.
" You wouldn't. You don't understand the sea. It is the exact opposite of you. Wild, unpredicatable and unique. While you are calculating, cold and plain. You could never hope to rule something like my sea".
" Really Poseidon? Do you know me well enough to be able to prove I don't know the sea? Maybe I do. Besides, even if I didn't do that well, which is nonsense by the way, I would always do better than you. At least I am intelligent enough to actually count to ten, unlike you".
Poseidon snorted. " Oh please Athena, we both know I'm not that dumb. And I don't think you are that smart either. How could a creature that sprang from Zeus' head be smart? If you have inherited even part of his brains, you aren't that smart at all".
Athena narrowed her eyes. " Don't insult my father! At least he didn't give people a salt spring as present. Although I wasn't suprised when you did something that stupid. That spring was exactly like you. Beautiful, but useless".
Lamia smiled when Athena compared Poseidon to his water spring. Does she realize she has just called him handsome by comparing him to that spring and calling it beautiful?
When Athena's entire face suddenly became bright red and a look of panic crossed her face, Lamia suspected she had. Lamia also guessed, from the slightly panicked look Athena had, that she hoped Poseidon wouldn't notice she had called him handsome. No such luck.
Poseidon suddenly smiled brightly. " You do realize you have just called me handsome, don't you? You compared me to my spring and called it beautiful, meaning you think I am too".
" You don't have to explain my own words!" Athena snapped, annoyed. She was still very red. From embarressment mainly.
" And I didn't intend to say that. It isn't the truth. What I meant was that you are useless, not handsome".
Poseidon grinned. " No, you compared me to the spring. And you said the spring was not just useless, it was also beautiful. So you think I am handsome".
" I don't! I am a maiden goddess, you idiot!".
" You still said it. Just admit it feather brain. You aren't immune to my good looks".
Lamia rolled her eyes. Men. Always bragging about themselves. Especially their appearance.
Athena became even redder, this time not only from embarressment. She was clearly angry too. " Urgh! I will never admit something abhorrent like that!".
Poseidon smirked. " But you admitted it already. You said you wouldn't admit it, but you didn't say you wouldn't say it. Meaning you actually think it, but just don't want to tell me. Are you shy owlhead?".
Athena stared at him for a few seconds. " Did you just something that actually made a little bit of sense and required thinking?". She looked stunned.
Poseidon rolled his eyes. " I might be not as smart as you, but I'm not stupid either. I can figure something like that out".
Athena smirked. " So you admit I am the smartest person ever and a lot smarter than you".
Poseidon raised one of his eyebrows. " Well, you wouldn't be the wisdom goddess if you weren't, now would you?".
" Well actually, Apollo sucks at writing poetry and he is the god of poetry, so technically that hasn't to be true. I could still be the goddess of wisdom if I wasn't extremely smart like I actually am, but I just wouldn't be a good goddess of wisdom. Just like you can play soccer, but don't have to be good at it".
" Sure bookwurm. Are you going to admit you think I'm handsome now? I was't scared to say you are smart".
Athena raised one of her eyebrows at him. " But that is because it's actually the truth. I am smart, smarter than anyone else. If I would tell you how smart I actually am, you would be scared".
Poseidon rolled his eyes. " You arrogance is unbelievable".
" I am not arrogant! Why do people keep saying that?".
" You are sure you are the goddess of wisdom?".
" It isn't arrogance if it's true!".
" It is still arrogance. And not everything you say, is true. You have been wrong before".
" When? Tell me one time I was wrong".
" Well, I don't know, but you have been wrong a few times. It happens to everyone".
" You should know! You are wrong every day! You are a mistake yourself!".
" That is not true. And also not very nice".
" Well, I'm not trying to be nice".
" Good, because you wouldn't succeed if you were. And you are very arrogant. Now, are you going to say it".
" No! I'm not going to lie to inflate you already enormous ego".
" Pot? You speak with kettle!".
" I don't have an enormous ego!".
" You do. You always think you are right and will never admit you aren't. You brag about your intelligence every single day!".
" Well, you brag about your appearance every day while it isn't even that great!".
" Then why did you drool when he took his shirt of?" someone said. Athena turned, startled. She looked really annoyed and her eyes scanned the room until she found what she was looking for.
Aphrodite was standing before them, smirking. She wore a short dress that barely reached her thighs and a lot of make-up. Her hair and eyes were changing all the time. Basically, she looked beautiful.
Athena sighed. " What are you doing here? I am already thoroughly annoyed".
Aphrodite smirked. " Dad sent me to get you. There is a meeting".
Artemis cursed. " The meeting! We have totally about it!".
Aphrodite smiled. " Yep. But this is way more interesting anyway. Pothena!".
She squealed and Poseidon and Athena both looked at her with a are-you-crazy look?
" I don't like her!". " I don't like him!". They said it at the same time.
Aphrodite smirked. " Yes, you both do. You just haven't realized it yet darling. There is a thin line between hate and love".
Athena rolled her eyes. " Like I would ever love such a obtuse, violent idiot like him. Love is useless anyway".
Poseidon snorted. " Like I could ever love such an arrogant, bossy, stuck up, know-it-all!".
" Please, you don't even know what love is! You only know lust, you stupid excuse of a god!" Athena spat.
" And how would you know? You don't even know what love is!".
" That is not valid! I know everything!".
" Well, if you know everything, you know it is impossible to know everything"!
" That doesn't make sense! If I know it is impossible to know everything, because I know everything, I would be saying I don't know everything since it is impossible to know everything! So I would be disagreeing with myself!".
" Argh! You don't make sense! You are giving me a headache, woman!". " Well, your brains must hurt because you never use them and now they are forced to actually do something!".
" Take that back! My brains work perfectly!".
" You don't even use them! How would you know?".
" Because they are my brains!".
" Well, you-".
" Guys! We have to go to the meeting now! We are already late" Lamia, who had enough of all the bickering, said. Athena and Poseidon both ignored her, just continuing their bickering.
Lamia rolled her eyes. Those two were centuries old, but they acted like toddlers. " Unbelievable" she muttered.
Artemis walked towards her, giving her a small smile. " It's annoying, isn't it? It is amusing at first, but it gets old after a few centuries. I wish they would just stop fighting".
Aphrodite nodded. " They should. Maybe they will finally realize they are meant to be together! Wouldn't it be adorable to have a few Athena-Poseidon children running around?".
Artemis sighed. " First of all, Athena is a maiden goddess. Meaning she will never have a boyfriend. She isn't going to break her vows. Secondly, Poseidon is her enemy. They aren't even friends. And thirdy, they are complete opposites. They would kill each other before their honeymoon was over".
" Firstly, rules and vows are there to be broken. Secondly, like I already said, there is a thin line between hate and love. They will realize someday. And thirdly; opposites only attract. They could improve each other. Athena could make sure Poseidon learned a lot and became smarter and Poseidon could make sure Athena would actually have some fun. Besides, Pothena is soooooooooo cute!" Aphrodite squealed, clapping her hands excitedly.
Lamia shook her head. That woman would never give up. She was too stubborn.
Artemis apprently realized the same, because she didn't start a discussion with Aphrodite. " Well, you obviously are crazy, but I will never convince you anyway, so let's just get to the meeting" Artemis said, slightly annoyed.
Lamia pointed to the bickering Athena and Poseidon, who were still calling each other names. " How are we going to make them stop fighting?".
Artemis shrugged. " Normally, dad does that. But he isn't here. So ehhm, we shout or something?".
Lamia shrugged. It was worth a try. " Poseidon! Athena! Listen!" she shouted as hard as she could. Athena and Poseidon kept bickering.
Artemis frowned. " Well, that didn't work. What now?".
Aphrodite smiled. " Let me". She stepped forward and cleared her throat. She took a deep breath and screamed. It sounded horrible, like something from a horror movie.
Lamia covered her ears. It was the most horrible sound she had ever heard. Nothing could be more horrible than this. She shrunk and wanted to run away from the sound, but stayed. At least Athena and Poseidon would stop bickering. Even they couldn't ignore this sound.
Sure enough, even Poseidon and Athena stopped bickering to investigate the abhorrent sound. They both lookedat Aphrodite, who finally stopped screaming and smiled. " Good, I have the attention of the lovebirds. We have to the throne room guys!" she said.
Athena rolled her eyes. " We aren't love birds".
Poseidon nodded. " I hate to say it, but I agree with bird brain".
" If you aren't love birds, why do you call her bird brain?" Aphrodite asked, smiling innocently. Without actually being innocent of course. She was never innocent.
Poseidon snorted. " It's just a nickname".
Aphrodite smiled. " So you already have nickname, like a real couple. Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!".
Athena face palmed. " You are inescapably obtuse. Whatever someone tries, only nonsense leaves your mouth" she said before waling away angrily.
Poseidon followed her. " He owlhead! Wait for me. I wasn't finished" he screamed. And they continued bickering.
Lamia and Artemis looked at each other, sharing the same thought. Those two will never stop.
They sighed and, together with Aphrodite- who kept repeating Pothena until Artemis tried to shoot her-, walked behind the two bickering gods.
Okay, so the next one will be the last one. I really enjoyed writing this story, although it turned out different than I expected. I still like it:) Couldn't resist putting a bit of AthenaxPoseidon in here. Their bickering, not really romance or anything although I really like Pothena Don't even know why:) The story I will start after this will probably be Pothena=]
