Hey guys here's the next chapter don't think there will be much more after this as always the characters don't belong to me
Gail walked into the apartment as she had just finished a night shift and she was looking forward to grabbing some breakfast and going to bed. The first thing she noticed or smelled rather was pancakes and bacon cooking So she hung her jacket on the hook and made her way into the kitchen and was greeted with the sight of her wife, in her boy shorts and tank top standing at the stove flipping pancakes and turning the bacon. She walks over to her wife and wraps her arms around Holly's waist and places a kiss on the back of her neck. Holly sighs and relaxes in Gail's arms then turns around and places a kiss to Gail's waiting lips.
Holly pulls back and smiles and tucks a strand of Gail's hair behind her ear while, Gail kisses Holly's palm. "Why don't you make the coffee and sit at the table, breakfast is nearly ready. I thought we could eat together before I have to get ready for work" Gail pouts at this but Holly just kisses the pout on her lips and turns her towards the coffee make and swats her bum.
Gail was sitting on the sofa resting her head on the back and her feet on the coffee table when Holly comes out if the bedroom. Holly Walks up to her wife and swats her feet off the table, which causes Gail to scowl at her wife. Holly just gives her lopsided grin at her wife's expression and walks into the kitchen to fill a travel mug with coffee. "Ok Baby I'm off I should be done by 6, and try and get some sleep and not sitting up playing video games." smirks Holly before she leans forward and captures her scowling wife's lips in a kiss.
Holly was currently studying tissue under her microscope when her best friend and boss Maria walked into her lab. "Hey Hols its midday how would you like to join me for lunch at Macs, it's been a while since we have spent time together." Holly immediately stepped away from her bench and took her lab coat off and grabbed her bag and coat.
Just as they were reaching their destination Maria told Holly to go ahead and get a seat while she runs to the bookstore to pick up the book her daughter ordered. Just as Holly walked into the diner a male pushed in behind her and turned around and pulled one of the empty tables in front of the door. At that moment he then turned round waving a gun and told everyone to stay where they were and not do anything stupid or he will shoot. However what he didn't know was the waitress behind the counter had managed to press the panic alarm under the counter and within 5 minutes there were sirens outside the restaurant. The next that could be heard was the voice of Oliver asking him to come out with his hands up. The gun man shouts out the window that hes not going anywhere especially back to prison and if they do not back he will start shooting.
"Ok" yells Oliver "Can you at least tell me your name and how many people you have in the building." The gunman replies that his name is Matthew Campbell but he is not from Toronto so he is not listed anywhere and there are 15 people with him.
"Okay "whispers Oliver to Andi "I want you to go back to the station and pull up everything you can about him and make it quick, we need to know who we are dealing with." Andi just nodded and ran towards her squad car to get to 15.
After an hour off the standoff Oliver is getting desperate to get some of the hostages released, and just as he was about to go back on the radio the new rookie at 15 yelled he had a visual and fired a shot. This startled everyone in the restaurant including Matthew who hit the trigger of his own gun as he jumped up. The next moment the waitress shouted he has been shot. Everyone turned towards her to see a young boy around 12 lying on the ground with blood pouring from a gunshot wound in the abdomen. Matthew now starts to panic as he didn't want anyone hurt, but at the same moment Oliver's voice comes through the radio again to find out what's going on. Matthew shouts through the window about the boy being shot but it would not have happened if one of them hadn't fired at him and if the boy dies they have blood on their hands.
At this moment the waitress gets everyone's attention. "We do actually have a doctor here maybe with the correct supplies she can try and save his life." At this moment everyone is looking at each other to see who could be the doctor while Holly is concentrating in trying to control the bleeding. Matthew now starts demanding to know who the doctor is. At this moment Holly knows she has to speak up. "I think Anne is referring to me, but I'm not an actual doctor I'm actually a forensic pathologist so I work with dead bodies not living ones." The boy's mother then speaks up at this point.
"If you are a forensic pathologist does that not mean you still had to go to medical school just like a regular doctor? And do residencies just like a regular doctor, I mean I'm no medical expert but I would say that makes you qualified". Holly just nods her head to let the boy's mother know she is correct and know she has to no choice but to save the boy's life.
Holly looks at Matthew and takes a breath before she speaks. "If you want me to save this boy's life you need to allow me to call Officer Shaw on my cell and tell him what supplies I need." Matthew nods his head and tells her not to try anything silly.
Outside just as Oliver is about to get on the radio again his cell rings. And is surprised to see its Holly calling. "Holly" answers Oliver "Is everything ok." The colour then drains from Oliver's face when he listens to what Holly has to say. When Oliver hangs up with Holly he calls Chris and Traci over. "Guys I have just had Holly on the phone. She is one of the hostages and she said that we a have a 12 year old gunshot victim and she needs to try and get the bullet out. Chris I need you to run to the hospital and ask for gauze, a scalpel, tweezers, syringe, suture kit and anesthetic plus an IV bag and line. Traci I think you need to go and get Peck and get her down here we can send her in with the supplies, that way she can check it out for us as she is the only one he won't know is a police officer, and we pray Andi finds out who we are dealing with." Both Chris and Traci head off.
Gail is woken up to a pounding on her door so she throws on some sweats and a t-shirt and heads out the bedroom. As she pulls the apartment door open ready to give the person a piece of her mind she sees Traci standing there looking panicked. Gail's heart immediately comes into her throat. "Traci what are you doing here what's wrong." Tracie then proceeds to tell Gail about the hostage situation and that her wife is one of them, and the plan to send her in with the supplies. Gail throws on her shoes and follows Traci out the apartment.
Tracie, Gail and Chris all arrive back at the same time just as Oliver is getting off the phone with Andi. "Ok so apparently Matthew was on day release from his penitentiary in Vancouver where he was serving time for armed robbery, and went on the run. The Toronto penitentiary is going to send over some of their guys so they can take him back into custody when we get him to surrender. Now Peck when you go in there don't try and be the hero, our main priority is getting everyone else out in one piece and that includes you. I told Holly we would send someone in with the supplies to help her and would call her when we were ready." Oliver then takes out his cell to make the call to Holly which was her queue to get Matthew to open the door enough to let Gail in. When Oliver finished the call with Holly they saw the restaurant door open slightly which was Gail's queue to go in. Gail grabbed Oliver's handcuffs from the back of his belt when he turned away and tucked them into her sweat pockets.
When Holly heard the person Oliver sent with the supplies step through the door she looked up and caught her wife's eyes. Holly gave a small smile to Gail letting her know she is glad that Oliver got her there. Gail walked over towards Holly and sat on the floor at the opposite side of the victim. "What do we have doctor, and what do you need me to do" asks Gail as she starts to hand the supplies over to her wife. At the same time she looks Holly in the eyes secretly asking if she is ok. Holly gives a small nod and takes Gail's hands and places them on the towel she is using to try and stop the bleeding and tells her to press down hard til she gets the anesthetic ready.
Holly tells Gail to remove her hand while she numbs the area to get it ready to remove the bullet. When she thinks the area is numb enough, she starts to open the abdomen. Luckily the bullet wasn't too hard to find which made it easier for Holly to remove and stitch he boy up. The she attached him to the IV to keep his fluids up while they waited to be let go. Gail then went to sit beside Holly and reached for her hand. Matthew noticing the exchange began to speak. "Do you two know each other you seem very comfortable for two people that have only just met"? Gail and Holly look at each other and Holly shakes her head at Gail she doesn't need him to know any more about her. Gail on the other hand doesn't care.
"Actually Matthew here's the thing, I was at home minding my own business sleeping when I get woken up with the police banging on my door. When I answer said door I get told that my wife is being held hostage, and they need me to come in with supplies because some idiot has taken her hostage and shot a 12 year old boy. Now Matthew if I was you I would be thankful for Doctor Stewart here otherwise you would have a murder charge on top of this." Gail knows she is starting to hit a nerve.
"It was an accident" screams Matthew, "If one of the idiots out there had not fired I would not have got a fright and fired my gun, it was not my fault."
Matthew takes a minute to turn his back, which is the worst thing he could do with Gail in the vicinity because no sooner has he turned his back Gail jumps into action and jumps on his back, which is enough to take them both off balance. The gun falls from Matthews hand at the same time both their heads connect with the counter. Matthew pushes Gail off him and goes for the gun; Gail however manages to kick Matthew in the face to momentarily stun him enough for her to reach the gun. While holding the gun out she calls Holly to come over and out the cuffs on him.
Oliver is pacing outside wondering how he is going to get the hostages out and get the boy to the hospital. It's been 4 hours since the restaurant was held up. Just as he is about to get on the radio he sees the door open and watches as Gail leads Matthew out in cuffs with a nasty looking gash on her head followed by Holly. As he rushes over to take him out of Gail's hands the paramedics rush in to take the boy to hospital. The rest of the hostages follow the paramedics outside.
When the fugitive has been driven off and statements have been taken Oliver walks over to Gail and Holly. "Peck what part off do not try and be a hero did you not understand, you could have gotten yourself killed." Gail looks at Holly and smirks before she looks at Oliver again.
"Old man stop stressing, did you really think you could send me into a hostage situation where might I add my wife was one of the hostages and not do anything, You know me better than that Ollie." And she smiles which cause Holly to snort beside her.
"Yes Peck I do know you better than that, and I kind of knew you would go in and play hero, I just thought for once you may have listened to me. But out of all the times you don't I'm glad this is one of them. I'm just glad you both are ok, but you better let your wife take you to the hospital and get that gash checked."
Gail looks at Holly with pleading eyes and Holly immediately understands what she's asking. "Ollie" replies Holly "I have stuff at home that I can use to fix her up so no one needs to go to the hospital."
Gail reaches out for Holly's hand and squeezes and gives her a grateful smile. Oliver smiles back and lets them go on their way.
As Gail and Holly arrive to their apartment and close the door, Holly leads Gail straight to the bathroom and starts cleaning the cut with antiseptic. Luckily it's not too deep to require stiches just a little dressing. When Gail is cleaned up and taken 2 painkillers for the headache she has, and after Holly is sure that Gail doesn't have a concussion. They head to the kitchen to get some food before deciding to take a bath together wrapped in each other's arms. After the hectic day they just want to hold each other and let the night disappear.
