Chapter 6
Morgan walked slowly into the Chapel room, and sat in the chair that Tig stood up and motioned for her to take. The room was silent and that unnerved Morgan more than anything. She knew the proper protocol for this, having experienced it at home more then she wanted to remember. She folded her hands and kept her eyes locked on them, not making eye contact but noticing Jax across the fidgeting with his unlit cigarette. She noted that Tig did not sit down but leaned against the wall behind her.
Clay took a long pull on his cigar and slowly exhaled it before he addressed her.
"Jax, Tig, Bobby, and I just had a meeting with Alvarez and the Mayans over their visit here yesterday."
Morgan knew better than to speak until he got to the point, she looked at him and kept her facial expression calm and relaxing. Thankful that she had her hands clasped already and that the tremors would hopefully not be noticed. It was believed that her father had been one of the casualties in the war with the Mayans, his body found floating in the river that ran outside of Charming limits.
"Due to the timing of your bullshit and their visit to Charming, we now have a potential problem for you and us all." Jax said, even if he appeared calm. Morgan heard the edge in his tone.
"Alvarez made a point to state that 'Lil' Killer would be proud that his daughter was with the "Tacoma Killa"." Clay said, placing the cigar in the ashtray in front of him.
Morgan jerked her head up, turning quickly to look over at Happy. Who was sitting beside Juice, she saw the tell-tale tick in his cheek and knew he was pissed off.
"What?" Morgan said spinning her head back to look at Clay and then Jax.
"Here is where the dilemma came in…" Clay said.
"If we denied that you, Daughter of First 9 WASN'T his Old Lady, you would have been seen as open pussy that caught the eye of Lando one of the Mayans." Jax told her harshly. "If we confirmed that you were Happy's Old Lady they would know that coming after you would be suicide, but still place you in danger."
Morgan closed her eyes Madison and Bo's voice ringing in her ears "You will NOT be with ANY COLOR disgracing this club and us! You have violated us all with your whoring for that Half-Breed bastard!"
"Until we can figure this out for anyone outside of this room you are Happy's Old Lady." Clay told her.
"I can't.." Morgan said as she started to hyperventilate. "I can't… NO!" She started to shake the thoughts of what Madison and Bo would do if they thought she had become the Old Lady of anyone that that they deemed color, SON or not. She had to get to her cell locked in her truck under the seat. She needed to call Sugar to warn her to make sure that not only was her Grandmother safe and that all traces of her even having her baby were truly erased and he was safe. She knew that her both Madison and Bo would kill Sugar and her child if they found out that she had really had him.
"YOU WILL!" Jax told her, thinking that she was just flipping out over being linked to Happy and being difficult.
"Happy has agreed to Ink you in a manner that can be changed later and to appear for anyone that you are his. Someone is feeding the Mayans information and until we know you are not safe." Clay told her.
"No, I can't." Morgan shouted, shaking her head. "I would rather be a unprotected piece of pussy then risk their safety! I will leave right now and disappear, I promise. I can go into hiding until this is resolved. PLEASE!"
"Who's safety?" Chibs asked her, calmly. He knew the answer but she needed to say in right now for everyone to hear.
"PLEASE THEY WILL FIND OUT ABOUT HIM AND KILL HIM!" Morgan told Chibs, her eyes locking with his. "THEY WON'T STOP UNTIL THEY DO!"
"MORGAN WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" Jax shouted at her, as she stood.
Morgan whirled to move to the door, but stopped when both Tig and Opie were there blocking her.
"We already told the Mayan's that you were Happy's." Clay told her.
"Have Madison or Bo been contacted about this?" Morgan almost screamed at them all.
"Not yet." Clay told her, confusion wrinkling his forehead as he watched Morgan start to take a couple steps towards the door and then spin around and come back to the table, she did this a few times freaking them all out as she mumbled and tears ran down her face. She was frantic and they could not understand why.
Suddenly Morgan was grabbed and spun around by her shoulders by Chibs, "Luv, we can't help you if you don't tell us the truth, we can't protect them if we don't know who or what they are."
"But they said I couldn't tell anyone!" Morgan sobbed. "That my shame must be a secret, or they would… I hated them for saying that he was a "shame" a "disgrace". HE ISN'T, he is beautiful and mine!"
Seeing the wild eyed look she had, Chibs knew that he had to snap her back into reality. He shook her suddenly and yelled "TELL US ABOUT YOUR SON NOW!"
"WHAT?" Clay roared, as all hell broke loose.
Morgan suddenly snapped back to reality at Chibs words and was furious that he had just announced her secret child to the world. She jerked her arms loose and shoved the man in his chest as hard as she could. "NO! IT'S THE ONLY WAY HE IS SAFE AND SUGAR!"
"Juice get Gemma here now!" Clay shouted as Tig grabbed Morgan and shoved her down in a chair.
Morgan suddenly stopped fighting to get up from the chair as it sank into her that her child known and that the only way she could get out this room to find a way to protect him and Sugar was to appear like she was complying with them. Maybe if she told them the truth about everything it would buy her enough time to find a way to warn Sugar.
She reached in her back pocket and took out the two treasured photos and looked at them for a moment. "I will tell you all everything once Aunt Gemma is here and you all promise that no one contacts SAMCAR until you hear the entire story from me."
"Okay." Clay told her, noticing the tone of her voice. None of them had ever heard her express the despair and pain that she now used.
"Can I have something to drink, please?" Morgan asked as they waited. None of them would let her leave Chapel and took turns at the door as they all went in and out.
No one said anything, but a bottle of Vodka appeared with a large ice cup of cranberry juice. Morgan quickly took a couple of shots using the cranberry juice as a chaser until Happy reached over and moved the Vodka.
"You need to be a little sober to tell us." He told her gently. As much hell has she gave him, he did not like the expression of loss in her face and eyes. He didn't like the way her hands shook as she held the cup of cranberry juice that was mostly just ice now.
Gemma was there and sitting down at the table next to Morgan. She had been filled in on everything to this point before she came into the room. Morgan heard the door close and looked up, making eye contact with each member.
"I met Brayden the second day of college, and fell into love with him. He was a Pre-Law like me, but a couple of years ahead of me. He was from New Orleans, his Mother was black and his Father was white. He was smart, funny, loving, and was going to be an amazing attorney. He treated me like I was his world and I was. I knew that dating someone outside my race would be an issue with my family, but never-ever did I think that it would become what it became."
Morgan reached over and drew a cigarette from the pack in-between her and Jax, he was seated directly in front of her. She lit it and took a pull from it.
"With Brayden everything was so easy with us, we had the same goals for our futures. He wanted to become a Defense Attorney like myself. We didn't plan on getting pregnant, but we did plan on getting married the moment I graduated from Law School. He was home for Winter break when I found out I was pregnant. I was supposed to be with him, meeting his family. But Madison and Bo had gone ballistic when I told them about my relationship with Brayden over Thanksgiving. I made the choice to stay home and try to smooth things over. I never realized how much racism that Bo and Madison had in them until, I walked in the house the first day of Winter break. Bo beat me, telling me that I was tainting his name and disgracing them both. Even if there were other races in SAMCAR, it did not matter to Bo or Madison. I was a whore among many other names that you can imagine and then more, it was three days before I could drag myself out of bed and sneak out the house. I made my way to Sugar's and she took care of me. It was at her house that I found out I was pregnant. Bo had already told me that Brayden was a dead man if he came back from New Orleans, and I knew that he meant it."
Morgan paused to sip the watered down juice still in front of her and to out the cigarette. "I called Brayden and explained everything to him. I told him that I was pregnant and I was scared that they would kill my baby, him, and myself. Sugar, Brayden, and his parents made arrangements to sneak me out of the state that night. I went to a family member's of his Father's in Georgia. Sugar went on an extended stay in Europe taking a granddaughter that from a distance matched my description as me. Madison and Bo thought I was on leave with Sugar getting right after my break-up with Brayden. I used an identity that was purchased for me. I had my beautiful baby son two weeks early. I only got to spent one night with him because somehow Madison and Bo had started to get wind that the woman with Sugar was not possibly me and was starting to poke their nose into things. I had to leave me son the night after his birth to meet Sugar at the Atlanta airport and fly home with her. I had to be the one that came home with Sugar, Madison and Bo was waiting at the airport for us."
Morgan's face smiled as she looked at the one picture on the table of her son. "Before I left I signed my son up for adoption to family that was friends with Brayden's. I made sure that my entire pregnancy that things with Brayden and I were over, I couldn't hurt him. I realized that there was a love inside me that was stronger and more important, the love I had for my son. I named him Nikolas myself, but his name was changed later. His adoption was completely private and his birth mother ceased to exist the moment I walked out that clinic." Moran's facial expression hardened then and she placed the picture on the table. "Somehow Madison figured out what I had done, not the details but that I had a child somewhere. She noticed the changes in my body and other things, which a woman that had a child would notice. I had to sign over the half of my trust that was available to her and Bo. She told Bo it was a gift to rectify the embarrassment and disgrace I caused them with even having been with Brayden. Really it was to buy her silence to not have her husband find my "mistake" and erase it were her words that day."
"How much did Madison get?" Gemma asked.
"She got half of it $500,000. I get the other half when I complete college or turn 35." Morgan said.
"Money for her grandchild." Gemma stated shaking her head. She could not fathom how Madison had done that, skin color be damned that was her flesh and blood.
"Madison forced me to come here, to be away from her and Bo. So they could have the pretend world that they wanted. I refused to be any part of the plans that they had for me. The wanted me to settle down with one of Bo's good old boy's sons and be the perfect trophy wife. I fought them every step of the way until Madison gave me the option to come here or she would tell Bo her suspicions that I had a "half-breed bastard". There was three conditions, never was I to speak of Brayden or my son, and I was to never disgrace them by being with anyone that was not Caucasian."
"Shit!" Jax swore after she stopped talking. "If Madison thinks that you have broken that, then she tells Bo."
"But she said that before she did that she would make sure Sugar suffered for helping me." Morgan told them.
"Is Nikolas safe now?" Gemma asked.
"According to the message I got from Sugar everything is fine. She gets a post card once a month that has coded phrases that were established to let us know how he is." Morgan said. "He is safe, healthy, thriving, and has a family that loves him. I will keep him that way, no matter what it cost me."
