Wow, It's hard to believe it's been like 5 months. Heh, sorry.
To be honest I am kinda bored with this story, but I'm doing this so I can fulfill my goal of actually finishing a story instead of deleting it. Which I do a lot. I doubt anyone actually likes this story, but I'll keep going anyway.
So here's chapter five. Enjoy
*A few minutes earlier with Sonic's P.O.V*
I stood in a pod that was kind of like the one I was in at the ARK. The similarities between the two made me a little uneasy, but I shouldn't really worry, I guess; I mean, I'm already dead. I can't die twice. Anyway, it was a transporter (not an explosive escape pod) and Angie called it the Bi-Dimensional Transporter. The front of the pod was open and the pod was in the middle of the room.
Angie stood a few feet away talking to another angel. This room was a little different then the others I had seen. It was light blue on the walls and ceiling. The floor was, like the room I was first in, looked like a cloud but was smooth like glass.
The angel Angie was talking to gave her something and she turned and walked toward me with it. "Here Sonic," she handed me the object. I held it and looked at it. It was a ring-like band and was light blue with a royal blue gem in the middle. "What's this for?" I asked.
"It will send you back here once your done on Earth. Plus it will keep your spirit connected with your body while your down there," Angie replied, "I hope you know how lucky you are, Sonic. This is not something that is usually allowed. Spirits never want to go back to Earth once their time is up. Usually they are pretty accepting of it." I only nodded. I slipped the bracelet on past my glove and examined it. It fit just right on my wrist.
Angie went over again to talk to the other angel. I took a glance at the angel. It was a male antro-wolf with gray fur.
I haden't seen many other people here, which made me wonder where they were. Really I haven't even left the building, or I guess this is a building. In the end, I really did not know much about where I was. "Uh, Angie?"
She turned and looked at me. "How come I've only seen two people since the whole time I've been here? Ya know, I kinda imagined seeing more... People, spirits, I guess."
She and the wolf looked at each other then back at me. "Like I said, Sonic," she began to answer, "This has never happened. You see, when someone dies and passes over to the Other Side, they materialize in the place they find most comforting. This world is an exact replica of the mortal world, so they go to those places here. Whether it's their home or some place they loved to be on Earth, they show up here and continue on with their lives. And you materialized here."
"So?" I asked, confused.
"So, no one ever materializes here. Ever. This place you've been in is the central control building of transportation between the Afterlife and Earth. You didn't materialize in your replicated hometown or next to some chili dog stand. You ended up here. The place your soul and subconscious wanted to be was here. Do you understand what that means?"
I promptly shook my head.
"It means that your soul doesn't want to be here, in the Afterlife. You still have a strong connection to your physical self and your friends on Earth. You materialized in the place on the Other Side that you wanted to be... The place that had the ability to take you home... And I suppose I can understand that, everyone is a little shocked at first. But, you aren't even supposed to be here, in this building. You are then only person that has ever existed that came here first. Out of all those people, you are the only one. You are the only one who doesn't want to be here."
"Why?" I asked, "What makes me different?"
"That's what we are trying to figure out. We think it may have to do with you having a strong will and how you died, but we are not sure."
I nodded, taking in all I had just heard. The only one, huh? Never a dull moment for me, I guess.
"Angie! The rift is ready!" The wolf said with urgency.
Angie smirked and turned to me. "You ready, Sonic?"
"Ready as I'll ever be."
"Rift transport in 10. 9. 8. 7-" the anthropomorphic wolf said.
"Oh and by the way, I added a little... adjustment to your bracelet," Angie said with a sly look.
"6. 5. 4-"
I looked down at the bracelet questioningly and said, "Which is?"
"3. 2. 1-"
"Well I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise, now would I?" She said with almost a devious look in her eyes.
"0! Rift now synced with transporter. Initiating transportation."
"See ya later, Sonic. Good luck." Angie said in farewell.
Then I blinding light flashed and everything disappeared.
"Ugh, the things we do for our jobs," Angie said to the wolf.
"Tell me about it."
From then on, I was falling. For a moment I wasn't sure where I was. It felt like I was stuck in between life and death. I was stuck in the middle of eternity. Around me I saw only the same blinding white light. A part of me knew what was going on, but the other felt... lost. Lost in nothing.
It came back to me though, what my goals were, what I was doing. As the light slowly began to dissipate and fade, I could see more objects around me beginning to take shape. The Earth lay far beneath the ARK. I stopped falling two feet above a platform. I was floating in midair and the platform below was like a long runway that just stuck out and looked as though it could collapse very easily. A second later I stopped floating and landed.
Up ahead I saw Knuckles fighting that black hedgehog. What was his name? Shadow? I smirked. Looks like I didn't miss too much action.
It looked like Knuckles was starting to lose though. I walked forward towards them. The hedgehog pinned Knux to the ground, but Knuckles flipped him over and pinned him down.
Alright, it's my turn.
I walked right up behind Knuckles. Shadow looked up and saw me with a quizitive look on his face. Knuckles noticed this. "What?" He asked. I tapped him on the shoulder. He looked backwards as his eyes widened.
"Mind if I cut in?" I asked.
"S-sonic?"
"Hiya Knux," I said with a thumbs up. Suddenly, Shadow, who was on the ground, flipped Knuckles off of him. The echidna groaned in pain. I offered my hand to him and he took it.
"Sonic, Tails said that you were-" Knuckles started.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll explain later," I interrupted.
"Humph, I hate to break up your reunion, but we were in the middle of something here," Shadow said irritably.
"Ya know, you're right. How rude of me. Why don't I let my fist show how sorry I am?" I said, punching the palm of my other hand. I turned to Knuckles, "Why don't you go up ahead, Knux? I'll take care of things here and meet ya later."
With that, Knuckles gave a 'thanks' and dashed off.
"Oh no you don't," Shadow said and attempted to run after him. I stepped in front of the hedgehog though, blocking his path. "Sorry pal, gotta get through me first."
"Humph, very well," He paused," You never cease to surprise me, blue hedgehog. I thought that capsule you were in exploded in space," Shadow responded.
I smirked. "Ya know, what can I say? I die hard!"
We both started running through the passage at the same speed.
"So there's more to you than just looking like me. What are you, anyway?" Shadow said.
"Whatcha see is whatcha get, just a guy who loves adventure. I'm Sonic the Hedgehog!" I countered.
"I see," Shadow said threateningly, "But you know, I can't let you live. Your adventuring days are coming to an end!"
We both took off in a sprint.
"Yeah good luck with that."
As we ran, I noticed the platform beginning to collapse behind us, section by section. Better not fall behind.
I went in for a homing attack on Shadow. He was a second late in dodging and my quills grazed him. I started pulling ahead in our run as to get the upper hand, but I heard him yell something behind me.
"Chaos Control!"
I looked back and saw that he had disappeared. When I looked forward again he was standing right in front of me. I nearly jumped, but out of reflex I homing attacked again. This time it hit him dead on.
Shadow growled and yelled, "Disappear!" Many energy spears appeared in his hand and were shot out at me. I ducked and, in turn, homing attacked again. It hit him again.
He recovered and shouted, "Play time is over!"
"Aw, but it just started! And I'm only getting warmed up," I taunted.
Shadow came in to homing attack me, causing me to jump out of the way.
I had to make sure I kept running, or else I would fall along with these platforms behind us.
Shadow ran up ahead and prepared another attack. Meanwhile, I curled into a ball and spin dashed towards him. Unfortunately, he Chaos Controlled again. From behind I heard the whizz of something flying through the air. I second later, I was struck by a group Chaos Spears. I unrolled from my spin dash and groaned from the sting from the energy.
Shadow came in for another homing attack. I dodged and immediately spin dashed him, followed by a homing attack while he was down. Shadow attempted to homing attack back but I jumped out of the way and did a light speed dash.
At the end of my light speed dash, I kicked him straight in the face.
This time Shadow fell on the ground and couldn't get up. "Darn it. Not bad... For an imposter."
"Heh, point Sonic. Too easy! See ya later, Faker!"
With that I took off in a sprint, leaving behind the beaten hedgehog. The path lead to the Eclipse Cannon's core. Assuming that's where Knuckles was headed, I continued full speed ahead.
Eventually, I caught up to Knuckles, who was outside of the core.
"Hey, Knux. So what's the plan?" I asked once I reached him.
"Depends. Do you have that fake emerald with you? Tails said you had it," the echidna said.
"Well I did, but... I, uh, don't anymore," I answered unsurely.
"Where is it? You didn't lose it, did you?"
"Well, no, I didn't lose it but, uh, it's a long story and, really we don't have much time. So, I assume there is a back up plan?"
"I have no idea if it'll work, but Tails gave me this bomb," Knuckles took out the rectangular explosive, "to use on the Eclipse Cannon."
"Oh, I think that is one of the bombs used to blow up Prison Island, that should work."
Suddenly, we both heard someone cry out through Knuckles' communicator. He picked it up and said, "Tails, what's wrong?"
"Eggman placed the last emerald in. Hurry, Knuckles!"
A part of me couldn't help but smile. The adrenaline when the world is in peril and we come to save it. When there are only minutes, maybe seconds, left and we all save the day. My friends and me. I'm going to miss that. I'm going to miss them.
"Alright let's do it to it!" I said.
"Alright," Knuckles responded.
We made our way into the core and found the weakest point in which we would place the bomb. By the looks of the room we were in, I had a feeling the bomb wouldn't do enough. This place was just to big and armored. "Knuckles, are you sure this will work? This place is too big!"
"I know, but what other choice do we have?" the echidna responded.
"Hm... Alright, I guess you're right. Let's place the bomb."
Just then I noticed the bracelet on my wrist started to glow. I stared at it curiously.
'Oh and by the way, I added a little... adjustment to your bracelet'
Alright, but what do I do?
The blue gem started to glow more than anything. I stared at it and brought it up to my face.
'Can you help with the cannon?' I thought.
I decided it was worth a shot and tried doing a few things to the gem. First, I cautiously poked it. Nothing happened. Then I tapped it harder. Still nothing. I shook it. Nope. Finally, I twisted it. When I did that, the gem popped up and a little hole appeared on its side. It didn't do anything at first until I tapped it again. The gem went down then popped back up like a button. The hole was aimed at the floor and a small laser was shot out.
I jumped slightly but then I smiled smugly. I get it now...
I walked up to a part of the cannon that was a main control panel.
"Sonic, what are you doing?" Knuckles asked me.
"Something clever," I said without looking back at him.
I aimed the gem at the panel and triggered it. A laser shot out into the panel and fried it. I continued this with a few panels around the room. Soon this place didn't look so sturdy, it looked like the laser had done its job. "Thanks, Angie," I said under my breath.
"Where did you get that thing?" Knuckles asked.
"Oh, just a toy I picked up. Pretty handy.
"Yeah, well the bomb is set to a minute and a half as to not waste time," Knuckles explained.
"Cool, well let's get movin'. I don't want to blow up twice in one day."
"What?"
"Huh? I said we should go," I responded quickly.
We made our way out and far enough away.
Apparently that minute and a half went fast.
BOOM.
Debris flew everywhere. Knuckles started coughing. I, on the other hand, was laughing.
"That was cool!"
Knuckles' coughing subsided. "Ya think it worked?" he asked.
I laughed again, "Worked? Dude, I think we just obliterated the whole thing!"
He laughed too. We high-fived. "Yeah!"
