Chapter 6: Secrets Come Out and Hearts Break

Angel's Pov

I'm back! I can't believe it! And I owe it all to Xander, if it wasn't for him I'd still be in the back of my own mind. I just want to kiss him but I can't yet, not until we tell Buffy the truth.

"Buffy listen..." But before I could finish she kissed me again. And don't get me wrong she is a beautiful women but I felt nothing when she kissed me, but with Xander I felt alive again.

'Oh god Xander' I looked up at him and his face showed complete and utter hurt/betrayal. And just as I started to smell the salty tears form in his eyes he ran out the door and into the night.

"Xander wait!" I not so politely pushed Buffy off and ran after him and I managed to catch him before he got lost in the cemetery.

"Stay away from me Angel"

"Not until you tell me why you left and why you are crying"

"Because I care about you damnit!"

"I do too!"

"Then why did you let her kiss you?!"

"Because she thinks I'm her true love!"

"Is she?"

"No! You are Xander!"

And he suddenly stopped dead in his tracks so I took that as my que to move closer. I stepped infront of him and grabbed both of his hands, clasped them in mine, and looked deep into his eyes.

"Your kiss saved me Xander. You're the one who destroyed the evil tyrant I once was, and only true love could have accomplished that. So you believe me now? What happened with Buffy wasn't real but what I feel for you is".

"Prove it" he whispered. And I did the only way I knew how, I leaned over and kissed him and put as much emotion into it as possible. Seems like it worked because Xander wrapped his arms around my neck, so then I wrapped mine around his waist.

"Angel are you... What the hell is going on here?!" Someone screamed. Xander and I pulled apart quickly to see Buffy staring at us with shock and jealousy.

"Xander do you mind telling me why you were kissing my boyfriend?!" He didn't answer, he looked too scared to even speak. To comfort him I grabbed his hand and squeezed. He looked up at me and smiled.

"Showtime" I whispered and he hid a laugh behind his hand.

"Buffy listen: I am not your boyfriend and I never was. Everything Angelus said was true, he used us just so he could take over again. It wasn't your love that turned me back... it was Xander. After you left he kissed me and then suddenly I had control again and Angelus was gone, I have my soul forever now all thanks to the man that I care for"

I looked over at Xander and saw him trying to fight a blush, then I looked over at Buffy to see her staying still, the only thing moving was her eyes going back and forth between us.

Then before I had time to react Buffy drew a stake and threw it in my direction. I closed my eyes and braced myself for the impact but it never came. Finally looking I saw that Xander had grabbed it right before it would have pierced my heart. He tossed it to the side and stood infront of me, wearing a look on his face that said 'try and do that again, I dare you'

"Xander get out of the way. Angelus needs to be destroyed" Buffy all but growled out.

"Buffy this isn't Angelus, he's gone for good"

"I don't believe that! He's faking it! Using you just to fool everyone!"

"Jealousy isn't a good look on you Buffy. I know you're mad that he choose me but..." he didn't get to finish because then Buffy was charging towards us and I did the only thing I could think of, I grabbed Buffy and threw her away where she crashed into a headstone. She didn't get back up.

"Xander I'm sorry"

"It's ok, really. You did what you had to do to protect me and she's been through worse... But I don't think they will have the same reaction" he pointed to my right and I saw Anya, Willow, and Giles running in our direction. They stopped infront of Buffy to check her breathing then lookekd up at us and glared, clutching their weapons tighter.

"Xander are you okay?" Willow asked him. He nodded, turned to me and whispered.

"Get out of here Angel, I don't want to see you get hurt" He shouldn't be worried about me he should be worried about himself.

"I'm more worried about you, you've already been hurt enough because of me and I don't want you to get hurt even more".

"First of all that was Angelus, not you. And second they're my friends so they won't hurt me".

"Buffy is your friend and she tried to hurt you. I just want you to be safe"

"Xander!"

We both turned our heads to see that they had moved closer and Anya stepped infron of everyone and reached out her hand towards Xander.

"Come with us Xander and we will take care of Angelus"

"But he's not Angelus! It's Angel!"

"What?!" Everyone exclaimed.

"So it worked, Buffy changed him back" Giles stated.

"No I didn't" a voice rang out. We all turned towards Buffy to see her standing and cradling her head which was slightly bleeding.

"Xander changed him... Xander is Angel's true love"
