AN: Hope you all had a good Christmas and are looking forward to a good NYE celebration. I've been in bed with an elusive cold since Christmas day - it's not fun. ~Zyii

Fifteen

Lucy wrote furiously in her diary, capturing every part of what she saw. When it started she had thought it was a flashback to something in the past, she'd never had someone else's memory before, but as it progressed she realised that the memory was of the past but it was being viewed today. Then ended cemented it, the memory was Caius's and he was thinking of it right now.

The house was quiet and Lucy tried to still her beating heart as the sweat became sticky and unpleasant. She was beginning to dislike these vision she was having. She remembered Caius now, he had been a gentle soul but had a possessive streak about him. It had made their one-on-one sessions together tense and awkward. Of course she knew that he'd harboured feelings for her but she hadn't returned them and had been more focused on training the brothers.

She was starting to formulate opinions of her old self and she couldn't tell whether or not she liked the person she had been. It seemed she'd been more concerned with teaching and passing on her knowledge than she had been with exploring human emotion. Lucy was glad that she was different now, her emotions were making her better.

She needed someone to talk to – writing it down in her diary simply wasn't enough – and she was surprised that Edward hadn't returned yet. So she got up and wobbled up the stairs until she reached Carlisle's office. He wasn't there when she entered but she was more interested in studying the picture of the three brothers. She stayed there for several minutes, paying particular attention to the figure of Caius.

'Sorry Lucy, were you looking for me?' asked Carlisle, as he walked into the room.

She shook her head. 'I wanted to look at the painting'.

Carlisle nodded, 'it bothers you doesn't it, what they've become'.

She nodded, 'did you know Caius was in love with me?' she paused to look at Carlisle and watched him shake his head, 'he didn't hide it well and he could be quite possessive at times'.

'You didn't return his feelings?' asked Carlisle.

'Never,' replied Lucy.

'But there must have been others that liked you,' he said.

'Yes but I never felt the same. My old persona wasn't concerned with matters of the heart as she was in passing on her teaching,' said Lucy.

'And now?' asked Carlisle.

Lucy playfully glared at him, 'and now without Edward I would not be complete'.

Carlisle smiled triumphantly as Lucy growled at him.

MEANWHILE

'Jacob!' called Edward with a nod of his head.

'We had an unpleasant visitor down at the rez,' said Jacob.

'Who?' asked Edward

'Bella,' replied Jacob.

Edward growled. 'I thought she'd been sent away,' he hissed.

'Apparently even special hospitals have days out. I don't think she'll be having that luxury again,' said Jacob.

'What did she say?' asked Edward.

'Stupid stuff about Lucy but she then got this crazed look in her eyes as she talked about getting someone to change her. She threatened Lucy's life, saying she'd let us watch as she hurts Lucy' said Jacob with restrained anger.

Edward stood still as rage engulfed his body.

'With your family and the wolf pack looking after Lucy she should be safe but we must be extra careful,' said Jacob seriously.

Edward nodded. 'Thanks for telling me'.

Edward watched until Jacob had disappeared into the forest and then returned to the house where he was greeted by a very excited Alice.

He sighed. 'What do you want Alice?' he asked.

She pouted. 'Why do you assume I want something'.

'Fine, what is going on?' he asked.

'Well I've been thinking about Christmas,' she said.

Edward pulled a face. 'Alice it's only just November'.

Alice rolled her eyes at her brother's behaviour, 'then we have plenty of time to plan'.

'Why are we doing this?' groaned Edward.

'Lucy of course! She's never had a real Christmas and I want this one to be extra special'.

Edward smiled fondly at his sister, 'fine,' he said then added, 'where is Lucy?'

'Carlisle said she had a vision, she went outside to clear her head,' said Alice.

Edward nodded heading towards the back of the house before Alice pounced on him.

'What are you doing now?' he asked.

'Stopping you from going out there, she needs time alone,' said Alice.

'Fine,' replied Edward, 'but get off me!'

OUTSIDE – DEEP IN THE FOREST

Lucy sighed, she'd hoped that getting some fresh air would clear her mind a little but he was just getting more and more frustrated with the words in her head. It seemed the key difference between who she was and who she is now was her ability to embrace her emotions. She hadn't worked out if this was a good or bad thing yet.

She was beginning to regret her life, why were things so complicated? Most people that complain about life have it easy compaired to her. She guessed she shouldn't complain, she at least now had a happy environment to live in, a roof over her head and food in her belly. Still life had been unfair to her.

As her brain buzzed with thoughts her hands wandered unknowingly through the air and she was quite content in her own little world. Till quite suddenly a vine shot up from the ground and followed the movement of her hand. It took her a while to notice I t and when she did she jumped backwards in shock. Her sudden movement made the ground shudder. She was confused, she moved her hand to the ground to help herself get up and once she'd removed her hand from the ground, thousands of tiny flowers had bloomed. Lucy giggled in elight over her new gift she seemed to have discovered before running all the way back to the Cullen's house.

'Someone's happy,' commented Jasper when she returned.

She winked in his direction as she hurried across the room to fetch a potted plant. When she returned all the Cullen's were there.

'What's this about?' asked Esme.

Lucy waved her hand over the plant and the Cullen's watched as the plant bloomed before their eyes.

Maybe her life wasn't so hard after all.
