Chapter 19:

The rest of the Christmas week was spent how it should be, with family and laughter. Lucy enjoyed her first proper Christmas almost as much as Alice enjoyed observing her, soon though Christmas had come to an end to make way for the next celebration: NYE. Lucy was due to go down to the reservation and spend it with her wolf friends.

This of course made Edward grouchy. It wasn't that he didn't trust the wolves…he just couldn't cope with situations that could cause Lucy potential harm. He knew that Lucy was more than capable of handling herself. He just worried for her when she wasn't being all strong and fierce. Nevertheless, when Lucy told him she'd return to share a midnight kiss with him, he perked up considerably and offered to meet her at the treaty line when the time neared.

Alice drove her down to the reservation, or at least as far as she could drive without breaking the treaty. As Lucy exited the car, she promised Alice that she'd be on her best behaviour and try to keep out of trouble. She was excited to see the wolves again as the recent business in her life had kept them apart.

Besides, the wolves always threw the best parties – not that she'd tell Alice that! She definitely wasn't disappointed when she arrived at the reservation and saw brightly coloured lanterns hung up all around the place. Sparkling lights hung in the trees and a roaring bonfire was casting a warm glow on everything. People were standing around chatting and joking, all merrily drinking punch. There were even little kids dressed in costumes. Sam and his wife Emily were the first to notice her, beckoning her towards them and embracing her in hugs and welcomes from them. She was passed from people to people who wanted to talk to her before she finally found Billy.

Billy, who never seemed to age – or that's what the others had told her! He was stubborn in his ways and always bowed before meeting her, despite her telling him that the bowing wasn't necessary. He was a kind soul and one that was greatly respected in the community. He had a smile for everyone but if you got on his bad side, well, you better be prepared.

'My Queen' he said while formally bringing forth her hand to kiss.

'Dearest Billy, you look younger with each passing day. You put us all to shame' said Lucy kindly.

Her words made Billy blush but he quickly recovered 'what news do you have for us?' he asked.

She smirked 'oh I have lots of news' she said as he led her towards the wolf pack – who were huddled together next to the bonfire.

'But you don't want to hear of that tonight' she said.

'We wish to be informed of any news that involves you our Queen' said Sam.

'I have been busy' she mused.

'The life of a Queen, I suspect is never dull' answered Billy.

'I took a trip down memory lane that led me to uncovering something that I thought to be lost. The hands of destiny have been tampering with my life for far too long, but I cannot blame them for now my life has finally reached a level of happiness that I am glad of. However, it seems that there is light at the end of the tunnel. While Aro grows more paranoid with each passing day, I grow in strength, uncovering more of my past that I thought possible. To reach my full potential I must recover two elements of my old life. My Staff I found a couple of days ago, under protection of a descendant of an old friend. It was he who reminded me of the other one that I seek, my crown. With my power back to me and my memories complete I can end that with I started years ago' she said.

'You will rid the world of vampires' said Paul viciously – of all of them he was one stubborn enough to hold onto past grievances.

'I would rid the world of the evil that has been created, those with darkness in their hearts and disease in their souls. Those who relish in the lives they have taken and only seek to continue the destruction of humanity as we know it are the ones that I shall take from the world' she said.

Paul started to shake uncontrollably 'you would leave us with the vermin that seeks to destroy the human we try to protect for what? Why is it you who gets to play god?' he shouted.

'PAUL STAND DOWN! You do us great shame by disrespecting our Queen so' said Sam with authority.

'I understand your pain but there are people who have been forced into their next lives without consent, those who have shunned what they have become in order to hold on to their humanity. Those who have put their hearts and souls into not succumbing to what they have become and those who have felt guilt and anguish at the bad actions they have committed' said Lucy.

Throughout this conversation, Lucy had noticed that Billy had become rather quiet and had a look in his eye that suggested he was guilty. She understood Paul's anger but she didn't see a need for it.

Silence descended upon them. She turned to Billy and eyed him suspiciously.

'You're hiding something Billy' she said calmly.

'I did not know the importance of what we had found, only that it was special and should be kept hidden' he said seriously.

'Show me' she said.

He nodded and then proceeded to wheel himself away from the bonfire and towards one of their sacred statues. The wolf pack followed behind the backs of Billy and Lucy. She watched riveted as he unlocked the base of the statue to reveal a pristine crown fit for a Queen. Lucy immediately felt the power roll off it.

'Billy where did you find this?' she asked completely awestruck.

'It sort of fell out of the sky one day in my youth when I was patrolling the boarder lines, I think it might have fallen from a tree or something I wasn't sure. I never believed that it had fallen by accident, I think it chose to fall to me, it knew it was powerful and important so I kept it, always hidden and waited for the real owner to appear' he said.

Lucy starred at the crown in wonderment, it was exquisite, it looked closer to a tiara than a crown but it sparkled fantastically all the same. She dearly wanted to place the crown on her head but was unsure of those actions in present company. However, one stern look from the surrounding wolves put her doubt aside and she hesitantly placed the crown on her head.

She felt the power tenfold as the crown touched her head. She felt whole in her magic when she placed it on her head. She knew not all her powers had surfaced but when they did, they'd now be more balanced.

'Billy you have no idea how happy I am to see this' she said happily.

He chuckled deep in his throat 'I think I can gather a little from that smile on your face' he replied.

She smiled, looking up at the sky, she admired the nights stars.

'Billy what time is it?' she asked.

'Half eleven' he replied.

'Ok I must get going then' she said.

Her remark was met with lots of outrage from the surrounding wolves, they wanted her to stay longer, tell more stories and consume more punch. However, Lucy had a promise to keep to Edward and it wasn't one that she was about to break.

'I am sorry but I must go, I will see you all soon' she said pleasantly.

Billy sighed but understood.

'Wait, before I go' she said suddenly remembering something.

'What is it?' asked Sam.

'Edward tells me you are familiar with a vampire named Victoria?' she asked.

Jacob growled, 'yes we know her'.

'She is after me' said Lucy.

This time the whole pack growled.

'She is no match for you but beware of her, she cares not for Bella anymore, though I think she could turn the girl if it came to it. She has put me in her sights as the one to 'take out' to even the scores between her and Edward' said Lucy.

'We'll take care of it' said Sam.

'I have no doubt that you do' said Lucy.

Alice met her at the line, she was bouncing and giggling and evidently in good spirits.

'We have to get you home' she declared.

Lucy giggled at her.

'Are you going to tell me why?' she asked Alice.

'Nope' replied the pixie-like Cullen.

LATER ON

The Cullen's were in full celebration mode. It was unusual and you wouldn't normally expect this sort of behaviour from them but they took Alice's threats seriously. From the smile on Lucy's face and the giggling Myles was coming up with, acting overly human sometimes had it's advantages.

Lucy was very touched that they'd gone to all this trouble. It was sweet though, it washed away her doubts and reminded her that they did care for her. Emmett and Jasper were currently battling it out on a car racing game on the x-box. Though Lucy was mildly interested she learnt not to get between those two and their games. She'd also learnt that challenging them was a complete waste of time. Still however involved Emmett was in the game, he still managed to shout things like 'no midnight kiss' and 'make sure your door remains open' to Lucy – much to her embarrassment.

Alice was busy having a deep discussion with Rosalie and Esme and from the continued glint in their eyes, their excited faces and the way they kept shooting glances at her, suggested that they were either about to kidnap her or they were talking about an extended shopping trip. Lucy loved shopping but she was still hoping for the kidnapping. A whole day with those three would kill her.

She watched fondly as Myles played with his toys on the floor. He was growing up much faster than the Cullen's assumed. Though it had been a more couple of months since he had been born, he had already developed and grown into a healthy two year old. Though this worried the Cullen's slightly, Lucy was content that he was following the right path.

It was getting dangerously close to midnight when Edward literally dragged her away and into his room. Per Emmett's threat the door remained open but for once the others were so busy they didn't have time to eavesdrop.

Edward took Lucy into his arms and just watched her. He could never get over the simple pleasure of just watching her, she was so vivid in her facial expressions. He loved the warmth he got from holding her, not too warm, not too cold, and different from a human. He also enjoyed the fact that even though he was cold, his coldness didn't affect her.

'So I know you promised me a kiss at midnight' began Edward.

To which Lucy raised her eyebrow at.

'But I thought that before that I could tell you something' he said.

Immediately her throat closed up, though her brain realised nothing was amiss, her heart was harder to convince.

'We aren't like other people. Everything we've done has been in an unusual order but it works for us. You are more than I could ever wish for and if you left now I would simply cease to exist. Lucy I love you and I'm never going to stop' he said passionately.

Lucy gazed into his eyes affectionately, as she heard the countdown to midnight begin, she managed to utter a heartfelt 'I love you' in return before they locked themselves in a heated embrace.
