Chapter 21

She looked across the land and saw all she had done and all she would do and everything appeared in perfect clarity. The past was just that, the past, her two selves were separate and shouldn't be crossed together. She was not a reincarnation of Queen Lucia; rather she was what Queen Lucia should have been. All the memories were there to stop her from making the same past mistakes. However, the mistakes of the future were hers alone to make. Her life and the life before were separate, only joining to pass information and knowledge. Now she had a choice, finish what was started or run away while nature takes its course. One of these routs held great prospects while the other only held death and despair, the choice was hers to make…

I stand as the keeper of the last gift, the descendent of Dorin, magical user and dear friend to Queen Lucia. Do not fear the past for those actions have long since been committed, do not fear the future for you cannot stop what is to come and do not fear the present for you will only bring doubt to yourself. You are strong Lucy and have already changed so much. Forget about the meddling stars, you have the faith of a thousand friend's standing behind you. We believe in all your powers, here, I give to you the last two elemental powers; fire and water, may you learn to control them as well as the others and use them for the power of good rather than evil.

The end is nigh, you must grasp it with both hands and jump or I feel the cycle will keep turning…

Lucy woke suddenly, the dream weighing heavily on her mind. The dream/vision she'd had perfectly captured how she'd been feeling. So much had happened and she felt blessed for how much her life had turned out for the better; however it was still a struggle warring with two different sides.

Lucy had been struggling between who she once was and who she now was. So much so that she felt as though she'd been losing her own personality and ultimately losing herself. She hoped that everything pertaining directly to Queen Lucia would disappear once all was said and done but she wasn't sure if she would get her wish.

Lucy's abilities are fully controlled & she can now use them in mischief

The Cullen's first reaction had been to lock Lucy up in a room where no one could harm her and where she couldn't harm herself. Carlisle had never known of anyone human to possess the gifts that she did. He was sure that there was a vampire out in the world somewhere that had the abilities she had but just not of the same magnitude. In some ways it was harder, knowing that she could protect herself. Emmett and Rose wanted to protect her as parents, Esme didn't want her to get hurt, and Alice refused to get involved for she said her power made it impossible for her to take sides. Edward just wanted Lucy to be safe but knew enough to know he shouldn't stand in her way on this and Jasper actually encouraged her to practice her gifts.

The whole thing had caused a rupture in the family for they all thought their view was the correct one. Lucy didn't like this sort of confrontation – well she didn't like any confrontation – but she especially didn't like it when it involved loved ones.

"These gifts were given to me for a reason, Lucia didn't have them and I would not have been given them if I couldn't handle them" said Lucy.

"We understand but we are worried for you" said Carlisle calmly.

She nodded "you did not think I would engage the Volturi without any sort of plan? I will not give them a chance to take me down. I need to learn to control my abilities, even if they only end up being a backup plan that never happens, at least I'll have one. Everything points to this being a big battle but given what I know of Aro it will be small and disappointing, that doesn't mean that there won't be an opportunity for violence and I would like to be ready for that just in case".

"She's right you know" said Jasper "I know you all want to protect her but the best way of doing that is to train her up so at least she stands a chance if someone were to attack her".

The Cullen's nodded in defeat.

"Who will train her?" asked Carlisle.

"Ooh I can answer that" said Lucy with a smirk.

"Please enlighten us" said Carlisle.

"Well, Emmett can help with my earth ability; he's really strong so that's put me to the test when I try to bind him with ropes. Edward's the fastest so he can help me develop my wind ability. Alice is the sneakiest so she can help me develop my water ability – I reckon I can do quite a bit of damage sneaking around. I'll handle fire by myself – because none of you should be near that – I'll talk to the descendants about the past and how they can be included and I'll talk to the wolves about some joining us and training".

"Why the wolves and the descendants?" asked Edward.

"This training isn't light fun; make no mistake I will be walking upon the Volturi before spring arrives. Alone I am vulnerable, together with the three aspects of Queen Lucia's past, I am strong. I shall arrive in their hovel with vampires, wolves and the descendants, I'll stare into the face of Aro and dare him to run" said Lucy seriously.

"It's kind of scary when you talk like that" said Alice.

"Sorry Alice, I'm on edge recently" replied Lucy quietly.

"It doesn't matter, we understand" said Edward lightly brushing her cheek with his fingertips.

Emmett – Earth

It was no secret that Emmett was the strongest of the Cullen's. Usually you didn't pick a fight with Emmett unless you wanted to lose. Lucy didn't particularly like the idea of fighting someone who she now called Dad but the fact of the matter was that he was the strongest and if she wanted to improve her earth element she needed to be sure she could effectively hold even the strongest of creatures.

It was all very well going into the forest and capturing a deer or a mountain lion in her vines but in Italy she wouldn't be going up against mere animals but rather vampires that had been honing their skills for years.

"Are you ready?" asked Emmett with a smirk.

"Born ready" she replied mockingly.

She gave Emmett a head start. He zoomed all around her, making it seemingly impossible for her to spot him. She stayed where she was; she knew his aim was to get her to move so that he could tire her out. In standing still she managed to home in on his whereabouts, thus when she finally used her power to shoot out strong ropes of vines, she caught him unawares and he ended up tripping over. On the first try, though she successfully captured him, the vines weren't strong enough to hold him for long. On the second try, the vines were stronger but he still managed to battle his way out of them after a few hard minutes. However on the third try she added sharp prongs to the vines and entwined several vines together making a bigger stronger one. After half an hour of struggling and getting nicked by the sharp prongs, Emmett conceded failure.

He was impressed that she'd managed to develop the skill so quickly, when she told him that she'd been going out into the forest to practice he was most surprised. That earned him a slap to the back of his head; of course she was training in her spare time! She wasn't about to march to Italy unprepared. If Emmett was proud of his daughter for her ability to control the earth element, it was nothing compared to how proud he was when he discovered her talent with her other abilities as well.

Edward – Wind

It was no secret that Edward hadn't wanted to help train Lucy. It was just that the idea of fighting with her, really fighting mad him scared. He didn't like the idea of her going to war, he knew it was stupid but he wanted to protect her and in his mind that meant taking her away from all this. However in his heart he knew that that would not be happening. So he grudgingly accepted that training her to be the best that she could be was the next best thing.

Edward was fast, like really fast. He was the fastest in the family; no one could keep up with him or beat him in a race. It was one of the reasons they always left him to pout when he was in a mood – he always ran so fast that they could never find him.

He had wondered how his ability to run fast would help Lucy in her development of the wind element. However, he quickly realised that as vampires they were naturally quick and therefore Lucy had to be quicker. It wasn't often that he was bested by a girl – and he really wasn't going easy on her – yet he found his body slammed up against various forest items more times than he could count.

All Lucy did was focus on his movements and anticipate his next move, even if she got it a bit wrong her power still managed to catch him, sending him up spinning through the air and landing on the forest floor or crashing through a tree. He was amazed that someone so little could produce that much power, but then again Lucy was so full of surprises that he should have expected it.

Alice – Water

Alice was known for being sneaky; it probably helped that she could see the future and all. No one could anticipate moves like she could. Lucy wasn't particularly sneaky – it was a hard thing to pull off when you were surrounded by vampires – and she'd never really had the chance to try. It seemed appropriate that she should try and train one of her skills up to be a sneak attack. The water element seemed the most appropriate, if you take out the thought of drowning, most people didn't find water particularly threatening and she could use this to her advantage.

Training with Alice, she now knew how the pixie vampire had managed to sneak so many new clothes past her. She was damned dangerous when she was determined enough. Alice walked her through some techniques to use to be sneakier than most, a lot of it focused on controlling her breathing as firstly vampires didn't breathe and secondly their acute hearing would alert them to her breathing.

Following that Alice showed her some surprise attacks and Lucy also improved her water skill to the point that she could shoot a series of high pulse water blasts and ice darts towards the enemy.

Fire

Lucy moved far away from the Cullen residence to practice her control of fire. She knew how deadly fire could be to a vampire and didn't want to cause the others any harm. She had the most fun training up this power as there wasn't so much control needed, rather power to make the flame bigger. She was confident that she could take out a horde of vampires simultaneously without injuring those she loved. She could hold a ball of fire in her hands, create a fire ring around herself for protection – or around others to contain them – and even managed the ability to create a blue flame that was even more dangerous than normal fire, if the state of the forest was anything to go by.

After Lucy had successfully mastered all the training she required, she set off on the journey to the site of her once lost coffin. The Cullen's wanted to come with her for protection but she managed to assure them that she'd be fine. She knew they'd be waiting for her though she'd only met one, heard the other and not set eyes on the last.

They stood proudly waiting for her almost as if they knew she was coming; Asolf, descendant of Barrow, Belif, descendant of Elma and Erik, descendant of Dorin. They gazed up at her with pride and admiration in their eyes. They wore battle armour in bright vibrant colours, their weapons; an axe, a bow and arrow and magick present. They were ready for whatever was coming.

"Queen Lucia" they said while bowing formally.

Lucy was glad that somewhere along the way everyone had switched from calling her Anassa Lucia to Queen Lucia as it helped her separate the two selves.

"We are to go to war My Queen" said Barrow.

"Very soon I fear" said Lucy.

"You wish for us to fight alongside you" said Erik.

"If it agreeable to you" said Lucy.

"We will stay with you till the end" said Belif in her chime like voice.

Lucy nodded. She offered them room at the Cullen's house but they declined assuring her that when it was time to leave they would be there.

THE RESEVATION

"We have scarcely seen you since New Year's Eve child" said Billy.

"I have been training Billy, as I know the pack have as well" replied Lucy.

"They sense battle in the air, are you to call on them now?" asked Billy.

"The air is not wrong, there is a battle coming, across the shores I must head, but I cannot take the entire pack – and it pains me so. I have come to ask of your guidance, I require five of the strongest wolves of the pack. I will protect them to the end of the earth, I promise no harm will come to them while they are with me" said Lucy.

"You are to take them into a den of vampires and expect none of them to die" said Billy a bit disbelievingly.

"I have made a promise not to lose anyone from my side, the words used created a barrier, it protects them. If my promise were to break, I would die" said Lucy seriously.

"Do the Cullen's know of this promise" asked Billy.

"To some extent they do, but I believe they do not want to think of it. Thinking of anyone dying causes them great pain" said Lucy.

"Very well, I have been watching the pack as they've trained, I believe I have the five that will serve you well on this expedition" said Billy.

"Will you tell me their names and ask me to tell them, or would you prefer the honour yourself?" she asked.

"I will tell you the names, they will meet you at the designated departure point" said Billy.

"Your coldness does you no favour's Billy, the wolf pack is very dear to me, but I would not make them do a thing they didn't want to do. Are you perhaps feeling bitter about me reclaiming my crown or is it that you are not able to help in the way you wish to?" she asked.

He bowed his head in shame "I apologise; I should not have acted the way that I have been. It was a foolish mistake. I know the boys will be safe with you. I recommend you take; Sam, Jacob, Seth, Quill and Embry".

"So it will be" she replied.

ELSEWHERE

The Volturi basked in riches and power as they sat on their thrones deep in the palace. No corner of that place had been left untouched; all areas had been explored thoroughly. Panic lurked within the walls along with fear and weakness. 'Stay away from the west corridor if you value your life' they used to say. What was hidden in the west corridor?

Down to the east, inside a small cramp room laid a body. Untouched and preserved, this body lay alone, unmoving and forgotten. But it was not forgotten, no, not by a long shot. It was merely left to welcome death while the others waited for a new life to begin. The body had been found on the outskirts of the city, clothes ripped, face muddied, life barely hanging on. It would have been a privilege to kill the body; it had been troublesome most of its life. However, it was more triumphant a feeling to turn the body into one of them. Think of it as poetic justice, one once scorned can become an asset to the enemy.

The enemy that was slowly going insane, pacing ruthlessly within his private chambers, murmuring words that made no sense. The others had the intellect to know they should stay clear of him, he was a monster and right now he was unstable. He knew what was coming for him, he knew he had little chance of survival but that didn't mean he wasn't going down without a fight, and perhaps with his secret weapon, he'd have a small chance at victory.
