Summary

Autumn Monroe, resident queen bee and bitch, comes back to Beacon Hills after a much needed break to find things aren't how they used to be. For instance, she no longer runs the school as her former 'best friend' and now enemy, Lydia Martin, has taken her place. Autumn will stop at nothing to destroy Lydia's life like Lydia destroyed hers.

Gia Anderson is the new girl with high hopes for her new life in Beacon Hills. She's ready to take on life away from her overbearing family and start fresh, but things prove to be a little difficult when things start to happen around town. And she's not the only that notices. Gia and Autumn may be the unlikeliest of friends, but they will learn that not every thing about Beacon Hills is what it seems.

Burning Bright

Part Four

"This is gross. Do I have to walk barefoot?" I looked down at my bare feet and felt my skin crawl.

"Yes, your heels will make too much noise." Stiles replied as he closed in on the door. We both peeked our heads out and could clearly see the woman officer melt in Derek's hand. I watched for second as the Alpha turned on his charm and I couldn't believe how good he was at it. Huh. Who would of thought?

Stiles grabbed my hand and pulled me along as we slyly tip toed passed Derek and his toy. Once out of earshot and closing in on Stiles' father's office. I stopped Stiles.

"Where are the cells?" Stiles looked at me and shook his head.

"NO. It's a full moon he could've busted out of there by now. We aren't even sure he is still in the cell." His voice was so authoritive I had to take a step back because I didn't know Stiles could be so aggressive.

"Look, you either tell me or I go on my own. I will be fine. Trust me." I tighten my grip on his hand to emphasize my point. Stiles seemed a bit on edge with his twitching hands.

"Fine, go all the way down the hall turn to your right; at the end of that hall another right and first door on the left." He said in defeat. I pulled Stiles into a hug.

"Thank you Stiles. Seriously, thank you for not seeing me as the crazy Autumn the whole town does." Stiles squeezed me tightly. He pulled back and moved a stray piece of hair away from my face.

"You are crazy" My mouth hung open and my stomach fell and I could see by his expression of panic I was being an open book. "But not the crazy people think. You are the kind of crazy that is passionate about things and people. You feel deeply and that isn't bad it just makes you fragile." I felt my eyes water at his words because he was partly right. I did feel deeply about people and that was my weakness, but he was wrong about one thing. I am crazy in the way the town fears me. I smiled and backed away slowly.

"Be careful please." Stiles called out.

"I'm Autumn Monroe, nothing scares me. I'll be fine." I said with a wink and turned around running down the hall.

I hobble into the kitchen ignoring the pain in my leg as I reach into my pocket for my phone. I curse when I find several missed calls from my sisters and one text from Autumn. I, instantly, write Autumn back wondering how she's doing.

I FOUND SOMETHING! I'll meet you at your house in an hour. If you aren't there, I'm sending out a search party. Be safe Sherlock.

I send the message just as Allison comes up the stairs. She looks defeated as she gives me a sad smile.

"Hey you okay?" I ask walking over to where she's leaning against the counter. She shrugs looking at the basement door.

"It's hard having to lock him up. I wish we didn't have to resort to this." She sighs allowing me to see just how much she loves him. I feel the guilt building in my stomach over my little crush on Scott. I open my mouth to say something, but I quickly close it when a hissing noise catches my attention. My eyes widen as Allison and I look at each other before slowly turning our heads towards the hallway. In an instant, Allison and I are backed up against the sink screaming bloody murder at the thing in front of us.

I ran into the room to find the two cells on the side empty leaving the only one in the middle to be Isaac's. It was completely closed off and only had a small window. I quickly ran to the window.

"Isaac!" I shouted as I reached the window. Isaac's face immediately appeared.

I gasped in shock as I stared into his amber eyes. He looked at me and titled his head to the side. I slowly placed my hand on the window.

"It's okay. We've come to get you out and safe. Derek came too." Isaac placed his hand that now held claws on the window as he nodded his head in understanding. Suddenly, the fire alarm is ringing and I look around to see no one. I turn to Isaac whose eyes are now big and looking behind me I turn around to see a man dragging Stiles.

"Stiles!" I yelled out causing the man to turn and look at me. Stiles was fighting against his grip. I immediately give the man a knife hand to the side of the neck causing him to fall to the floor losing his grip on Stiles.

I instantly help Stiles up and am about to turn when suddenly the man grabs my foot dropping me to the floor. I feel my air leave my lungs instantly as I my body meets the ground. Stiles tries to help me up, but the hunter grabs him and is about to hit him. When suddenly Isaac bust the door open and grabs the hunter throwing him around like a rag doll. Stiles instantly pulls me up and drags me to the wall behind a desk.

"Are you okay?" Stiles asked and I nodded my head in return because I can't speak. My body is still trying to recover and pull in some air. I watch as Isaac, all werewolf'd out, bashes the man's head into the wall. He quickly turns around and I gasp at how he looked.

His face was morphed into something that resembled a dog but still human, his eyes were amber and glowing, his teeth were sharp and protruding out of his mouth, and he had hair that was course like an actual wolf. I gulped as I looked at him.

He looked at Stiles and I will such primal filled eyes I knew he wasn't Isaac at the moment. He took a step forward.

"Isaac, it's Autumn. You know me. We are friends." I said to him and his eyes briefly showed Isaac I knew, but was soon masked by his wolf. He came forward advancing on us. Derek came through the door just in time and stepped on the syringe that I hadn't seen fall. He quickly stepped in front of Isaac letting out a deafening roar causing Isaac to cower down.

Isaac was trembling and he slowly looked up and he was Isaac again. I let out a sigh of relief and then looked at Derek.

"How'd you do that?" Stiles and I said in unison. Derek's face turned and gave us a cocky expression.

"I'm the Alpha." He stated the obvious. I rolled my eyes. Nah. Duh. Captain Obvi.

"What the hell is that!?" I scream feeling my blood run cold when the things eyes land on me. I watch the creature advance towards us on all fours with its tail whipping furiously behind it. "Allison!" I yell feeling her moving around behind me. I can't take my eyes off the thing, not even when Allison places a big ass knife in my hand.

"Come on," I hear Allison growl as I turn to her. She's in a fighting stance watching the thing petrified. I gulp moving towards her so I'm standing right next to her as I copy her stance. No one fights alone.

"Come on!" I scream my hand shaking violently when the creature hisses and starts running towards us. However, it doesn't make it very far before Scott comes hurtling through the basement door rolling right in front of Allison and me. We watch as the thing hisses one last time before jumping on the ceiling and slithering out of the house.

"What the hell was that?" Allison gasps white knuckling the knife in her hand.

"I don't know," Scott shakes his head completely lost when he finally turns around to face us. He's still in his wolf form, but I can already see where he's turning back into himself.

"Are you guys okay?" He asks taking a step towards us.

"Yeah I'm fine," Allison nods looking shaken turning to me. "Gia, are you okay?" I can only nod letting the knife in my hand clatter to the floor.

"I have to go, I'm glad you guys are safe." I mutter practically running out of the house. I take off down the street towards Autumn's house and I pray to the heavens that she's home.

I pulled my keys out of my purse and unlocked the door. I got in and threw my purse on the passenger seat causing my phone to fall out. I noticed I had a message from Gia. I read it and hoped that she hadn't left seeing as she'd sent the message an hour and half ago. I turned the car on and raced out of the parking lot and toward home.

The whole ride home I couldn't believe what had just happened. We were right. Now, Isaac was with Derek somewhere hopefully safe and Stiles was at the Station hopefully not in too much trouble.

I finally came up to my driveway to see Gia sitting on my curb. Thank God almighty she's alight. I put the car in park and instantly turned it off. I jetted out the car and raced to Gia who was looking quite shaken. I ran into her and pulled her into a crushing hug.

"Oh my God! Boston! You're okay!" I all but yelled.

"Of course," she sighs, something different in her voice. "Are you okay!?" She suddenly yelled pulling away so she can look me over for injuries. "I thought I was going to have to send out an Autumn Alert!" Despite, the circumstances she smiled at her own joke. I raked her body to land on her leg that was blood stained.

"What the hell happened to your leg, Gia?" I placed her arm around my shoulder. "If any of the werewolves hurt my friend they were going to get a giant stick of wolfs bane shoved up their tails!." I said as I helped her walk up my driveway and into my home. She chuckles leaning heavily on me.

"Surprisingly, it was me that threw the first kick." She groans as I gently sit her down in a chair. "After I fell through the kitchen window sneaking inside and busted my knee. Hence the blood," she winces adjusting her leg. "Please tell me your night was better than mine?" She asks watching me expectantly. My eyes shot up at how this seemingly put together girl had guts. I knew I wanted her as a friend for a reason. She's got guts.

"Wow. Got to say I'm happily surprised by that news, but seriously if it was that Derek guy I will bust him a new one. Even if he's a tad bit scary." I said eyeing Gia to see if she agreed with me and found Derek a bit on the scary side. She nodded her eyes widening in agreement. I smiled at her response and set a pillow behind her back to make her more comfortable. I gestured for her to give me a second and walked to the downstairs hall bathroom. There I pulled out the first aid kit and made sure we had antiseptic and bandages.

Once I was back in the in the living room I could see Gia looking around in awe. "Yeah I know we have a lot of nice things. You're probably wondering how. Since, well…yeah, Dad's a lawyer but we live in a small town. Couldn't possibly make this much money." Gia shrugged her shoulders. I laughed at her response I was beginning to realize more and more how Gia was different.

"Well, Dad's family is filthy rich and he comes from money. Hence the reason I have such a ratchet mother. Gold digger." I said as I pulled out the contents from the first aid. I didn't look at Gia because talking about my mother was the last thing I wanted to do. "Well my night consisted of getting a crash course in Werewolves in Beacon Hills 101. Threatened by an Alpha, possibly becoming friends with Stiles, getting attacked by a hunter and seeing Isaac wolfed out. Yeah eventful and surprisingly exhilarating." I said with a chuckle as I dabbed alcohol on Gia's scratch on her leg.

"Wow." It's all she said as she watched me bandage up her wound. "Before I bombard you with a whole bunch of questions, there are some things you need to know as well." She takes a deep breath preparing herself for whatever she has to tell me. "I think Jackson is a werewolf." She said and opened her mouth to utter another word but I cut her off.

"Jackson? My childhood best friend Jackson?" I uttered in disbelief. I stood up and raked a hand through my hair. Ugh…Jackson. You dumbass. I looked down at Gia who was staring at me in surprise.

"Hey, look I'm not sure. I just overheard him and some kid named Matt talking while I was hiding in the bushes. Jackson mentioned how he was going to document history, his history. It's just a hunch, but after seeing Scott transform I'm starting to believe that anyone can be a werewolf now. But I think there's more out there than we initially thought. After Allison showed up and locked Scott up, we were almost attacked by something." She paused, a visible shiver sliding down her spine. "It wasn't like anything I've ever seen before; it looked almost reptilian like a snake with legs and a tail. Luckily, Scott scared it away after he broke free from his chains. It was unbelievable." She shook her head, her eyes finding mine. "But that's not all. When I was in the house, we went down to the basement. We found a freezer with claw marks on the inside; like someone spent a lot of time trying to escape from the inside. Autumn, I think, Isaac's father would force Isaac into the freezer and lock him inside." She finishes as she watches me carefully with understanding. It's like she already accepts whatever reaction I'm going to have to her words. I feel my heart plunge into my stomach. It was worse. Way worse.

"He was a monster. I'm glad he's dead." I whispered the words as my eyes watered with anger. I looked to Gia and felt the tear fall down my cheek. She looked at me with sadness. I turned around and realized that as much as I was angry at the monster of a father Isaac had; he was now safe. Now, we were dealing with a real monster. "So, now there is a freaking reptilian out there that might be killing people?" I asked Gia as I turned to look at her with expectant eyes. She sighs pushing herself to a stand.

"It looks that way," she nodded scrubbing a hand down her face. She looked tired, but strong. "I'm really sorry about tonight. I know all of this is a lot to take in, but I'm going to be here every step of the way. You jump, I jump. You throw yourself into a pile of werewolves; I'll be busting ass right behind you." She smiled hobbling over to me and pulling me into a hug. "I'm really glad you and Isaac are safe. Despite, everything else, I call that a pretty good night." I hugged Gia tightly and for the first time found it easy to let someone into the inner workings of my brain; even if it's not the main core of the issues, just the underlining. It's still nice to know I have a friend.

"Thanks." I sighed as I pulled away. I smiled and nudged her on the shoulder. "You know you really are my John Watson. You know I can feel this is going to be the beginning of an odd, but fantastic friendship." I laughed as I looked to my reasonable, level-headed, compassionate new friend. I wasn't expecting her to show up, but I was damn grateful she did.

I wave as Autumn pulls away leaving me alone on the curb. I wait until her taillights disappear around the corner before I start my trek inside. The lights are off so nana must be in bed, not that I can blame her. It's almost midnight as I ease my way through the door trying to make as little noise as possible. I quickly run up the stairs sneaking past her room overhearing her soft snores. I smile shaking my head stepping into my room paying special attention to shutting my door soundlessly.

"Such a long night," I mumble resting my head against the door sighing to myself.

"I couldn't agree more," a deep voice comes from behind me. I let out a squeal as I jump three feet in the air turning around to find a figure standing near my window. I feel my heart stop when the man reaches over turning my lamp on to reveal…Scott.

"Damn it Scott," I breathe resting a hand over my rapidly beating heart. "I thought you were a burglar or that Derek guy." I wave my hand like I'm waving Derek away.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you," he frowns looking every bit the sad puppy dog. I sigh mustering up a smile for him.

"No it's fine, just next time at least give me a little warning." I chuckle limping farther into the room and sitting on my bed. This doesn't go unnoticed by Scott as he instantly kneels down in front of me taking my leg gently in his hands.

"Did you get this from tonight?" He asks sounding so worried I briefly wonder if he knows it's just a flesh wound.

"Yeah, when you fall through a window, you usually don't leave unscathed." I laugh trying to lighten the mood. Scott pays no attention to me though as he runs his hand lightly over my injury. Luckily, Autumn was nice enough to bandage it up, but it's bleeding through.

"Does it hurt?" He asks looking up at me with his big brown eyes. For a moment, I let myself get lost in them as I fight the urge to touch his face. He's Allison's boyfriend and I would never do that to a friend.

"A little, but I'm a big girl I can handle it." I shrug watching him curiously when he places his whole hand over my knee and closes his eyes. In an instant, the throbbing in my leg eases as his veins turn black. I know when he's finished and open his eyes I'm gaping like a fish out of water.

"Werewolf thing," he shrugs cheesing like a little boy in a candy store. I just laugh in disbelief shaking my head.

"That is seriously amazing," I smile at him as he takes the seat beside me on my bed. "What else can you do?" I ask curiously listening enthusiastically as he tells me everything he can do. I continue to ask questions learning everything I can about werewolves, who Derek is, and now hunters. "Wait so Allison's family hunts werewolves yet you continue to date her?" I ask thinking things over in my head.

"Yeah I know it's crazy and reckless," he sighs rubbing the back of his neck. I can tell he's had this conversation many times before probably with Derek who happens to be the Alpha.

"No I don't think it's crazy," I shrug when he turns surprised eyes on me. "If you love someone you'll do whatever it takes to be with them. That's the love worth having, the love worth fighting for." I acknowledge where he's coming from with a smile. "I hope you two have a long relationship and if you ever need me, you know where I'm at." I sigh lifting my hands motioning to my room.

"Thank you Gia, that means a lot." Scott grins looking down at his clasped hands. "You're not what I expected you to be."

"You mean I don't walk around with a stick up my ass and expect everyone to bow down to me when I walk down the hall?" I laugh shaking my head. "It's never been my style. I actually don't mind being in the background. I get more done that way."

"Get more done?" Scott asks confused causing my smile to widen.

"Yeah, it helps me see what others don't; like that this town has werewolves, for instance." I tease bumping him with my shoulder. "But when someone needs my help it makes things easier for me. I don't like the spotlight, but I like to help." I shrug bringing my good knee up to lay underneath me. "But I know you didn't come here to talk about me. What did you need, Scott?" I ask watching as he stares at me for a minute longer before he shakes his head.

"I came to see how you were holding up. You left pretty quickly back at Isaac's house. I just wanted to make sure that you didn't think differently of me I guess." I watch the slight blush rise to his cheeks in amusement.

"No Scott, you're still my number one chem partner," I smile reassuringly as he wrinkles his forehead in thought.

"I'm your only chemistry partner."

"See! No competition," I giggle making him chuckle.

"Thank god! I don't know if I could win your affections, you seem so hard to please." He teases me as I roll my eyes.

"I know you small town boys just don't know anything." I exclaim in my best hoity toity voice, but I fail miserably with my Boston accent. Scott and I convulse into laughter before the last word is out of my mouth.

"Wow that was terrible," he sighs still chuckling.

"Ha ha, get out of my house." I deadpan making him reel back in shock.

"Oh I'm sorry I was just kidding-"my laughter cuts him off.

"Relax Scott, I was only joking." I smile amused as I stand from the bed. I can feel his eyes trailing me as I go to my closet. It sends tingles down my spine that shouldn't be there. "So does that mean when you threw that ball this morning you heard everything those boys were saying?" I ask grabbing some pajamas. I turn around just in time to see Scott's blushing cheeks.

"Yeah I did, I couldn't sit there and listen to them talk about you like that. So I thought I'd do both of us a favor and shut them up." He grins mischievously making me laugh.

"Well thank you," I smile watching him stand up as I walk to him. "I really appreciate it."

"You're welcome," he nods staring down at me intensely before he shakes himself out of his trance. "Well, I should probably be going. My mom will be home soon." He says walking towards the window. "I'll see you tomorrow?" He asks throwing one leg over the window sill.

"You can bet on it." I smile wide watching him disappear into the night. I quickly shut my window smiling like a fool. However, the feeling soon fades as the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I look out the window trying to see if anyone is watching me, but I only see darkness. I frown pulling down my blinds before crawling into bed. After tonight, a good night's sleep is exactly what I need. I have a feeling they will be few and far between in the days to come.

I walked through the door of my father's study. He had just gotten home about an hour after I'd given Gia a ride home. He looked up with his blue sparkling eyes that resembled gems, and his black hair was starting to gray on the corners. Really showing just how hard this past year had been on him.

"Hey, Pumpkin. What's up?" He said as he dropped the expensive pen he had been using to furiously been scribbling on. He rubbed his eyes gently and smiled at me. I wanted to be angry at him, but looking at him right now was so hard to do. He was my father and I loved him. He was all I had left but the thought that he possibly knew that Chris was okay with sending hunters to kill Isaac. That wasn't okay. That was horrible and something that made me feel like I was suffocating.

"When were you going to tell me about the werewolves in town, and when were you going to tell me Chris hunts them." Dad's face fell and mouth dropped. "And especially when were you going to tell me you cover up for them killing families?" I asked the last part a bit disgusted. Dad abruptly got up from his leather desk chair and walked up to me.

"Let's get one thing straight kid. I never covered up for them killing families and I never will." HIs face was filled with such intensity that I couldn't help but through my arms around his neck and hug him tightly.

"Good, because I couldn't…without you. I wouldn't know what to do with two sociopaths as parents. Shit, I don't even know how to deal with having one sociopath." Dad let out a small chuckle and pulled back.

"Autumn, I'm your father and you've known me your whole life. I never will hurt you or anyone who doesn't deserve it." He places a kiss on my cheek. "She's missing out. Not you." I stiffen at his words because I hated talking about her. I pulled away with a fake stern look.

"So the werewolves and hunters?" I asked crossing my arms.

"Autumn…it's…you…" He rubs his hand over his face. "Look, pumpkin it's dangerous to have any knowledge of this. That's why I never wanted to tell you or have you find out. How'd you find out by the way?" Dad's voice sounded to defeated. I let out a small chuckle.

"Dad, come on. After the night in the cemetery did you think I was going to let it go?" I arched my eyebrow. "I am your daughter. I've got an act for wanting the truth. You might not always practice the truth, but you always want it and get it." I shrugged my shoulders and Dad shook his head.

"I was just hoping that you didn't see anything, but I should have known." Dad's face was looking off into the distance. He abruptly stood up and pulled me out of the office and closed the door.

"Autumn, you don't know Gerard. If I have anything to do with it you won't ever have to get to know him. He's not a good person. He's not like Chris. Chris he's different and my best friend. That's why I've continued to help." He grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. "You must act like you don't know anything. Gerard must nothing of your knowledge." He pulled away and kissed my cheek.

"I love you, Pumpkin." He then pointed at me and placed his index finger to his lips in a hushing manner. I nodded my head and couldn't help but feel a bit nervous. Dad was seriously afraid for me. That wasn't good.

"I love you, too, Daddy." I then proceeded to pretend to zip and lock my lips with a pretend key.

Dad smiled but it didn't reach his eyes and I was now worried for my Dad. As, I walked up the stairs my mind kept worrying about how Dad reacted to Gerard. If Gerard was really that much of threat I needed to let Gia know, because if I was in danger of Gerard, then so was she.

I threw myself on my to fluffy bed and placed a pillow over my face. I inhaled a deep breath of air and let out the scream I had been holding in since I'd realized; life as I knew it was going to drastically change. I slowly brought the pillow down and hugged it furiously and stared out the window at the full moon. I felt myself become envious of the werewolves for a split second. They are lucky to only fight the urge to keep their monsters at bay one night out of the month. When I had to fight to keep my monsters in everyday.

The voices picked up right on queue. The whispers that plagued me and were the reason for my instability were haunting me. I closed my eyes tightly and blocking them out and away from my mind. I decided to close the blinds to my window. To be honest the moon was kind of freaking me out. I lazily got out of my bed and walked toward the window. I grabbed the blinds and was about to close it when someone caught my eye.

There was a carmel colored guy casually sitting on his motorcycle looking at me from across the street. I stared back at him for a few seconds wondering why he was staring at me. I had never seen him before. He suddenly gave me a menacing smile while he brought two fingers to his eyes and then pointed them back at me. The voices began speaking all together in a whirlwind of whispers. Which caused me to gasp and close the blinds shut. I took in a few breathes tucked the voices away again for the second time and leaned against the window. He's not real. Your going bat shit. I took in a deep breath and let it out.

"You have to look. Stop being a pussy willow and look out the window." I whispered to myself and finally got the nerve to peek out behind my blinds. I gasped in shock as I saw the guy still watching. Okay, definitely not going crazy at the moment.

He wanted to be a creep and play this game will so can I. I immediately pulled up the blinds and grabbed a letter opener from my desk drawer. Dad didn't know this was in there. If he did he would of taken it away by now. I gave the guy the most craziest look I could muster and brought out the letter opener. The guy cocked his head to the side in wonder and I could kind of see him squirm a bit. I mimicked his gesture from a bit ago and then proceeded the gesture by bringing the letter opener to my throat. I made the movement of slitting my throat and I mouthed the words "You're dead."

I then smiled the craziest smile I could muster and it wasn't so hard because at this point I was so fueled by anger and fear that my monster were itching to come out and play. The guy tried to laugh it off and started his bike but I knew he was afraid. Like I said I became an expert at body language and his body language said I'd won this one.

I closed the blind and threw the letter opener in the drawer and headed to my restroom. I I opened the medicine cabinet and pulled out two bottles that read my name. I looked at the two bottles as the voices whirled around in my head. I tried to pluck out a few words but couldn't understand them. I felt like I was listening to a crowded room full people talking. I couldn't make out the words but I could here the yapping. I didn't know how long I'd been standing there looking at the bottles but when I'd come to I pulled out one pill from each bottle and filled a glass of water from the sink. I placed the pills in my mouth and gulped them down with a glass of water. I hoped the voices would dissolve just like the pills. I looked in the mirror as I let the water fill in the sink.

In my reflection I saw how my eyes seemed to be filled with demons I didn't want but had acquired over time. I watched as tears of anger, sadness, and resentment filled my eyes and then cascaded down my cheeks. Eventually, I looked down to the sink which had now been filled with water. I inhaled a deep breath of air and dunked my head in water. Once my face was incased in the tap water I let out another scream but this one was filled with my demons that haunted me.
