Disclaimer: thanks for the reviews everyone, hopefully you all had a great holiday celebration! To the Fan, thanks for clarifying up the Megamind thing. It should be occurring soon although it might not be Hamton per se since he isn't the type who would scream hysterically when frightened but hey, the scene will happen and I'll be sure to add my own little twist in it, thanks again. Now then, let's get started. I don't own the characters except the OC's, although there won't be any more of them as we continue, so enjoy!
Chapter 12
Fifi answered the phone, "May?!" she was so surprised that she wanted to be angry at her but in a quick second, she wondered why Hamton had her number if they met a long time ago.
"Fifi?!" the female yelled back over the phone, "I'm sorry, I thought Hamton would answer!"
"Vell,' 'e 'as a tendency to not answer 'is phone for vat'ever rea'zon, vhy' are you calling?"
"I wa-…I was calling to say hi, to see how everyone was doing."
"At eight in ze' morning?"
"I…had a lot of time since I woke up so early."
Fifi looked at the phone with a see-through glare, she strongly believed that she was lying, "vell,'" she told her, "'Amton 'eezn't' here right now, I'll tell 'im vous called."
"Oh, um, okay, thanks Fifi," May tried not to stumble on her words, "uh, have a good day."
"Oui, likewise."
The two hung up, "vhy' does 'e 'ave 'er number?" the skunkette asked herself, "first 'e…did vha't 'e did last night…an' now zhis', vhat' else iz' 'e' 'iding?"
Just then, Hamton's phone rang again, "now who iz' it?!" Fifi looked at the caller i.d. in great disbelief.
"Mitzi?! 'Er too?! Iz' everyone 'ooking up now?!"
The skunkette huffed it and answered, "vhat' do you vant' vith' 'Amton?!" she yelled, "iz' Dizzy not good enough for you?!"
"Whoa Fifi, calm down!" the girl protested, "there's no need to yell!"
"So vous admits to 'ooking up vith' mon boyfriend? 'Ow could you?!"
"What? Oh, no Fifi, you have gotta' be joking."
"Non, je 'as stopped laughing after vhat' happened last night!"
"Last night, what about last night?Fifi I'm calling to-"
Now Fifi's phone started ringing and over Hamton's line, Mitzi heard it too.
"That must be Jessie calling you," she said and sure enough as Fifi picked up the phone and turned it over to the caller i.d. she saw that it was indeed her other coworker.
"Dizzy had me and Jessie call you and Hamton to help us over here at the club before we open up tonight," Mitzi explained, "he wants us to get this thing set up before your friends' baby shower tomorrow."
"Oh," Fifi was taken back from how wrong she was about her, "pardon for yelling at vous like zhat'."
"Is…something wrong? That little outburst wasn't like you, at all."
"Oui, sorry, it'z' nothing, tell Jessie she can stop calling now, je vill' tell 'Amton an' ve'll' be zhere.'"
"Umm…okay Fifi, we'll see you guys in a few, are you sure you're feeling okay?"
"Oui, got to go, au revoir."
She hung up and dropped both her and Hamton's phones on the bed. Upon touching it she felt like she had touched hot molten lava so she backed away from the bed until she turned to run outside the bedroom.
"Je needs to get out of here," she told herself, "I feel sick here."
...
May looked back at her phone, "great, now she knows about me," she sighed frightened, "she's probably demanding an answer from Hamton right now." She looked out through her bedroom window, "at least I know he made it home safe," she nodded in agreement to herself, "the way he left me last night…I'm just glad he made it home alive."
...
Fifi noticed that Hamton was outside picking up the mail when she prepared to go downstairs. She looked outside the window and saw the pig waving two envelopes at her that were colored pink and blue.
"Zhat' must be zhe' invivations," she assumed, "Babs must be v'working Bust'air an' Bugs to pass zhem' out."
Fifi had a hard time being near Hamton the whole time before they arrived at Dizzy's, the pig took it upon himself to start acting like a big-shot since his night with the skunkette. For her, it was good to see him act so confident with himself but not under the current situation. Fifi mostly flashed fake and forced smiles at Hamton and nodded and agreed with every little joke he made just to keep his confidence in order. The whole car ride to the club was awkward but for Hamton, he couldn't stop smiling. Knowing what he did with Fifi, he found it justifiable since he realized his reason to it. Unfortunatley, it was very uncomfortable for his girlfriend.
The memory of the previous night was still fresh in their minds that it drove Hamton to affectionately tease her while he was behind the wheel. The purple skunkette would flirtatiously push his advances away but inside she was forcing his touch away.
In what seemed like forever, the couple finally arrived at the club, it looked so different that they almost forgot how it looked like in the sunlight. Hamton and Fifi saw the girls standing on top of the bar and waved at them.
"Hey guys!" called out Mitzi, "come on up!"
Before the pig and skunkette could reply, a purple whirlwind appeared out of nowhere and brought them up to join them. Dizzy stopped his spinning when he brought up his two employees and looked on with the rest.
"Vhat' are we doing here?" Fifi asked them, "vous said you needed our 'elp vith' zome'ding?"
"Yeah," Jessie answered, "Dizzy thought it would be a great idea if we installed a window ceiling to see the night sky."
"He acted on impulse and so he went for it," Taffy added, "he thought it would be a great idea for the Bunnies baby shower tomorrow so he wanted to test it out for tonight's crowd."
"Blah, me romantic!" the young Tasmanian Devil blurted out, "me know what girls love!" At that remark, he went around gave all the girls a big kiss on their cheeks.
"That sounds great," Hamton said, "but how are we supposed to get all that work done by tonight?"
"Blah, silly pig, you know how we get work done…Toon logic!"
Aside from that, Hamton offered the services of his own workers from the cleaning company to clean up when they were done. Dizzy was happy knowing that he didn't have to pay them so he stuck the pig with their pay since he was their boss.
…
This day wasn't really starting off the right way, Fifi had everything she could want but the timing couldn't have come at a worse day. She wanted to spend the day by herself thinking things over until her shift started but instead, it started a little early. She loved her coworkers but didn't want to be around them at this point. She had just found out that Furrball had been dead for years, the explanation she was given by her friends turned out to be false and she had just spent the night with Hamton, losing what she'll never get back.
The whole time they spent working on the glass ceiling, Fifi grew anxious whenever she came into close contact with anyone, especially Hamton. Mitzi noticed her behavior so she walked up to her, "Fifi?" she asked her, "are you doing alright?"
"Oui," the nervous skunkette replied, "vhy' does vous ask?"
"Well for one thing, you've been dating Hamton since Acme Loo but you're constantly turning the other way whenever he comes within an arm's distance, it's like you're ten miles away from him, five miles from the rest of us."
"Oh, je just didn't theenk' zat' ve' vould' be 'ere so early, vous know'z how us girls get vhen' ve' don't our beauty sleep, no?"
"…Did you even get any sleep last night?"
"…I vas'…in my bed."
"Then why are you so-"
"Je said every'zhing is okay now stop asking zhe' questions!"
Mitzi widened her eyes at Fifi, the purple skunkette realized she had snapped and cupped her face.
"Pardon," she apologized, "je did it again." Fifi was starting to get a little more nervous, "tell everyone zhat' I'm taking a break, je vill' be back."
"Wait-Fifi!-"
The skunkette speed-walked to the car, "'Amton! I vill' come back in a bit, je vill' bring back lunch!" Without waiting for a response from him or anyone, she took out her spare keys and drove off.
Mitzi looked on as her coworker drove off, she looked back at Hamton and he just shrugged. "Something's up with that girl," she thought, "and I think Hamton has something to do with it."
…
Fifi became content, she drove until she arrived at her house but didn't go inside. She felt more comfortable inside the car, now, she could be alone with her thoughts. She started to think about the previous night, Furrball and Hamton, Fifi started to question if her encounter with her deceased friend really did happen. She remembered her little test that she tried out but whatever proof she had of that was long-healed. The cat's 'memories' were still fresh in her head and they felt so real, despite it; just thinking about the alley cat made Fifi feel a little calm from Hamton's actions. The images and feelings were still there but they didn't get her worked up as much now.
"Je 'as to know if 'e's still here," she said to herself, "I can't call Shirley, she might get zhe' vizion' wrong again, if it vas' ever right to begin vit'z.'"
She placed her forehead on the steering wheel, "can't call Babs, no need in putting a pregnant girl z'hrough more stress."
But looking back at Furrball's memories, she realized that there was only one place she could go to find out if the previous night was just another dream, or reality. She turned on the ignition and drove to the one place she never thought she would go to on her own, Elmyra's house.
...
Furrball sat by the window at the old Duff home, this was the only place he ever had to call home so he owed it to himself to stay. It was slightly better knowing that he was accompanied by a bird and not Elmyra herself. The paint on his face had dried up a long while ago, when he entered the room he took off his black leather coat and carelessly let it drop to the ground while his crow watched him. The cat kept his distance from the close-to-mid afternoon sunlight and started reminiscing on the previous night when he went to visit his friends, Babs, Buster, Calamity, Shirley, Plucky, Fifi…
He shook his head when he came upon that thought, it seemed as though everything reminded the painted cat of his old friend. Picturing the images of her with…him…hurt him so much. Calamity was right, even though Furrball could barely feel physical pain, he could sure feel emotional pain. At the same time, it bothered him knowing what Hamton did with Fifi, worse, Furrball saw the whole thing.
Ever since he came back he had been on the rampage and showed no fear to his old tormentors. With his powers and cold mentality for a greater cause, it made him realize that he couldn't run away from his old problems anymore. Despite the bothersome feeling from last night, he knew that he couldn't run away from this problem anymore either so he sat down and faced it on his own.
"I can't believe he did that," the painted cat whispered to himself after picturing Hamton on top of Fifi, "that wasn't love...I don't even know what that was but I know it wasn't love."
The images played before his eyes and witnessed Hamton barging in through the door while a surprised Fifi pleaded with him to know what was wrong with him. The cold and alert tone in the pig's voice was the reason Furrball ordered Eric to stay behind on the windowsill to check on them.
"Hamton forced himself on her," the painted cat felt betrayed, even though he didn't gain any of Fifi's memories, he could tell that their activity wasn't a regular one on a specific basis, "I heard her plead to him, she tried reasoning with him, wanting him to stop, but he didn't listen."
"I know, Fifi, I know I promised," Hamton's voice echoed in Furrball's head, "but I have to do this, we need to do this, I've been waiting too long!"
The cat cringed his face, "Hamton, this isn't like you, you've changed." He shook his head sympathetically, "you didn't make love to Fifi," Furrball started shaking in nervousness as each passing image continued to flash before him, "you came in, you took her body by force…you ignored her constant protests from her mouth and body, you didn't stop yourself and you even went as far as not using any protection!"
Furrball's paws unsheathed his claws at those thoughts, "you…pig!...you didn't make love to Fifi…you ra…!"
He heard the sound of a car in front of the house, Eric flew closer to the window and through his eyes Furrball saw Fifi walk out. She had parked in front of the abandoned house.
"What is she doing here?!" Furrball panicked, "seeing her last night was a mistake, I should've listened to Calamity!"
With nowhere to turn, he grabbed his crow and disappeared as soon as he saw the skunkette hesitantly make her way into the house.
Upon entering, Fifi saw how messed up the Duff house really was on the inside. Wood was cracked along with the walls, the floor was covered in dust, dirt and garbage, every passing room was empty with nothing but cobwebs.
"Je could see vhy' it wouldn't sell," she observed, "I vould' ra'zher live back at zhe' junkyard zhan' live 'ere."
She continued walking, hoping she would find who she came to see, "Furrball?" she poked her head in each passing room, "iz' vous here?" No answer, but she wouldn't give up. Fifi entered a room that showed the outside, one of its windows was broken, she saw a ripped sack below the windowsill and some paint cans beside the door.
"Zhis' must be vhere' zhey' left 'im," she walked closer to the window and knew she recognized the setting from Furrball's memories. She finished looking around and then headed upstairs.
"Je know'z vous iz' still 'ere," she thought, "an' if it iz' true zhen'…"
The skunkette arrived at the parents' old bedroom and saw where everything used to be, now it was nothing more than an empty and filthy room. She came upon another room that was all too familiar to the French skunkette, Elmyra's bedroom.
Fifi remembered when she had the unfortunate fate of being captured by Elmyra. The giddy girl took the skunkette home, mistaking her for a cat and locked her up in a cage along with a few more animals.
"Zhis' iz' vhere' I became friends vith'z Furrball," Fifi remembered, "ve' got each o'zer z'hrough zhose' times, good zhing' Bust'air came an' rescued us."
She kept looking around that room and saw nothing but old rusty cages and cobwebs everywhere, that is, until something flew in front of her.
"Eric?" Fifi saw the crow land and perch itself on the windowsill, watching the purple skunkette walking towards him. "Furrball?" she looked deep into the crow's eyes, hoping her old friend was watching, "je iz' so, so sorry for last night," Fifi closed her eyes and sighed, "it just 'Amton-I mean 'appened, ohh." Realizing her mistake of words she still went on, "I didn't mean for any of zhat' to happen, it just, did."
From where Furrball was hiding in, he saw the look on her face, her expression and tone of voice said it all.
"Ugh, Fifi…" he thought to himself, "Hamton…what has he done to you?" Through the crow's eyes he continued to watch the skunkette talk.
"I am so scared," she continued, "I didn't get any sleep last night, I can't even be near 'Amton, je couldn't talk to anyone…except vous, if vous is still 'ere."
The crow just looked at her and cawed, "je knew zhat' it vas' all a dream," Fifi scoffed at the idea. Furrball hated seeing her like this but he knew it was for the best, he buried his face in his coat until he realized…
"My coat!" he forgot all about it, "I left it on the ground!"
At the same time, Fifi felt her foot paw stepping on the coat and picked it up. She turned it around to see that grey painted stripe on the back. The skunkette hugged it, she spoke out while it was still in her embrace, "vous 'as always been so nice to moi zhat' zhe' least you can do…iz' come see zhe' rest of our friends." Fifi went back to Eric and took out a pink envelope, "zhis' iz' vous invite to Babs an' Bust'air's baby shower party tomorrow…it vould' mean so much to moi if vous came." She placed the invitation in front of the crow, "au revoir…mon amie."
Furrball didn't reappear until he heard the door close, when he did, he saw Fifi walk out and look back to the house until she went inside the car and turned the ignition. The painted cat saw that she left his coat hanging on the door, neatly and with care. He looked back at his crow and saw the invitation, "I'm not going," he told Eric, "I came back for a reason, to find Lious and his gang and make them pay."
The crow tilted its head at the painted cat as he continued talking, "I didn't come back for Fifi, I didn't lose her last night…I lost her years ago." The crow cawed at him at that remark, "well what else is there to do?" Furrball argued, "I wanted to know about Calamity, Sylvester and Fifi and I did, I wanted them to know the truth and they did, what more should I do for them?!" Eric just stood there, eyes locked on the painted cat, "are you glaring at me?!" Furrball was shocked, he was arguing with a bird, one that wasn't even Sweetie, and he was actually retaliating!
"I'm not going! I have no reason to!"
The crow didn't care, even Eric knew that Furrball would be missing out on a lot if he didn't show up. The two stayed dead-eyed on each other until one was ready to crack, eventually Furrball let his guard down and Eric flew out the window. The cat went back to strategizing his plan while his crow flew until it found the car Fifi driving and followed it back to Dizzy's club.
…
Eric kept his eyes on Fifi from a distance for the whole day, he too noticed that she was acting a little weird around Hamton. From what it saw of the pig, he remained oblivious of his girlfriend's actions. Furrball received the images of that night, through the bird he saw the Alley Cats arrive, "oh no," he said to himself, still in Elmyra's house, "I almost forgot about them, if Fifi loses it with them then they'll be onto us!" The crow looked around and saw everyone dancing, Hamton playing the music, and others drinking, "there's too many witnesses, there's no way I can make my move tonight!"
Thankfully, Fifi and the cats were at a distance, even better, it was Jessie who was talking to them. The French skunkette was mostly by herself and avoided Hamton during the day, she glared at the street cats, "je can't believe it vas' zhem' all along," Fifi muttered angrily, "monsters, vhy' izn't' Furrball 'ere for zhem'?"
She counted the ones present, Lious and Nicus were absent and so was Feral. Judging from the memories, Furrball only took care of three, O'Wildec, Whisk and Tus, the ones who did arrive sat at a table far from her.
At the table, the cats paid with their stolen money as they ordered, "alright, I'll be back with your drinks," Jessie told them, "oh, also a reminder, we'll gonna' be closed tomorrow."
"Wait, why?" Lid asked her, "and what's with the glass ceiling, is Dizzy trying to go constellation-love on everything?"
"The glass ceiling is the reason we're closed tomorrow, the club is reserved for a baby shower, see?" the girl redirected their eyes to Mitzi and Taffy hanging up a banner that read 'CONGRATULATIONS BABS & BUSTER BUNNY!'
She left the cats and made her way to the bar. "The famous Bunnies are coming here?" Mestic nodded his head casually, "wait, didn't they used to go to Acme Looniversity?" Clawz asked, "with, you know…Furrball?" Lid narrowed her eyes, the cat was right but something else was amidst, "so did this club's owner, Dizzy," she stated, "come to think of it, so did…" now it was Lid's turn to redirect their eyes to Fifi and then to Hamton.
"C'mon," she ordered the two male cats, "we've gotta' get back to Lious." Mestic nodded but hated to leave a paid drink behind so Clawz became the one who complained. Lid responded by dragging him out while Mestic watched and followed. The Alley Cats had left the building.
…
"They're gone," Furrball observed, "I can finally make my move," the cat grabbed his coat and put it on, jumping through the window and out into the night.
Along the way, he decided to take a shortcut, hoping he'd still make it in time. As he passed by apartment buildings, one in particular caught his eye. This one was very familiar to him, he had been there before but didn't know why it gave him déjà vu. He landed on the ground to see what gave him that vibe, he touched the building and envisioned it.
Furrball was at that exact spot when he was wandering the streets one night. Then he envisioned the rich little girl and her kitten who invited him into their home, only to be tossed out by both their parents. That memory saddened him, "how could money turn people so…evil?" he asked himself, "I don't need this, I don't need to see anymore of this-"
Before he could even take his paw off the building, another memory was envisioned before him. This one was of him and the homeless boy he befriended after he was kicked out of the rich family's home. He saw how even though they went through an unfortunate fate, they still had each other the same way the boy still had his family. The two of them spent the night with each other, his family fed Furrball until one day, they eventually left. He still went back to visit them for the company sometimes, but then came a time when Furrball went to visit them once more, only to see that they were nowhere to be seen. There were times when the cat would come back to see if they ever returned but it was always the same and he was alone once again.
Furrball sadly slouched, "I didn't have to remember all of that," he said to himself, "that's just more fuel to the fire." He looked down in shame until he heard something. His ears perked up and heard laughter coming from inside the building. He jumped on the ledge until he was able to get a good view inside. There in the house he saw a couple in their mid-twenties sitting on a couch while watching TV and enjoying themselves. The couple was facing the side while the painted cat was in their left. Furrball squinted his eyes and noticed something familiar about this couple, the girl had long curly brown hair and her boyfriend looked to have darker brown hair, to their side was a grown white cat with blue eyes. Furrball noticed the cat and it gave him a familiar vibe as well, looking at all three of them Furrball tried his hardest to remember who they were until it finally hit him.
He met all three of them on the same night in that same spot! They were the little rich girl that allowed Furrball to stay in her home, the poor homeless boy who kept him company on the worst of nights and the cat was the kitten that played with him.
"They got…together?" he was so shocked at this fortunate turn of events, someone rich ended up with someone with almost no money, and they even took in the kitten!
"He has…a home?" Furrball shuddered at the thought as a smile started to spread on his painted face, "he finally has…a home, they look so happy!" Furrball started to realize that the boy and his family left to find a home and eventually as luck would have it, they found one, as for the boy, he recieved something more, a lot more, in the process. Furrball felt a tear coming down his white cheek and wiped it away, "a tear of joy," he noticed, all the rage and negative emotions he had inside him were melting away by the sight of the happy couple and their cat. Furrball couldn't look away, this warmed him up inside knowing that there was someone that crossed his unlucky life was now living happily.
The white cat turned her head and saw Furrball sitting on the outside of the window and crept up to it. The couple didn't seem to notice her but Furrball did. He was about to run off for he feared he might have scared her but she climbed up to meet him. She looked at him and tilted her head. Furrball saw the name tag on her, 'Kitty,' and looked back at her gaze. He couldn't really tell but Kitty was smiling at him, she slowly started to recognize him. The white cat held up a paw and placed it on the window, Furrball looked at his own paw and slowly placed it where hers was placed on his side.
He felt content, "I'll leave your soldiers in peace tonight, Lious," Furrball thought, "tomorrow's another day…and another night."
...
"Ya' actually have a good plan!" Nicus exclaimed after hearing out Lid, he turned to Clawz, "it's your lucky night, Clawz, we don't need you as bait anymore!"
"Yes!" Clawz was relieved, "come to think of it," Lious interrupted the cat's little celebration, "we don't really need you at all!" he pulled out a switchblade and pointed it at the frightened cat. Clawz screamed and his fur stood up in points while the others laughed at him, "I'm jus' kiddin' ya' scaredy cat, now listen up, all'a'ya!" all the cats were gathered around him, "we're gonna' find out who's really wastin' us an' accordin' to Lid here it's prob'ly one of da' old Tiny Toons."
The other cats nodded as Lious continued talking, "this party is da' perfect way to lure dis' guy out, whoever it is, has some connection to Furrball or us." He walked through them and stood right in front of them, "there's weddin's an' then there's parties…but Alley Cats, tomorrow night, we're crashin' a baby shower!"
To be continued…
