Chapter 19

Furrball held on to the windowsill and pulled himself up, his eyes still on Lid's impaled body. The long-tailed cat was just there, her body still and her eyes closed, it was only a matter of time before she was revived with her remaining four lives. Furrball had to think fast, if he was to ever rest then he had to end all four lives in one shot like he did with all the others. Lious and Nicus had a taste but now he was running out of time, his crow was weakened out and he still had three other Alley Cats with most of their lives to deal with. With all of that on his conscious, his deed had to be done in one fell swoop.

As soon as the painted cat turned around he was caught off-guard as a revived Mestic grabbed him by the shoulders and tossed him back towards the wall!

"You monster!" he cursed, "I hate you, you have no soul!"

"Who's fault is that?!" Furrball coughed as he struggled to get back up, "you want to join her?"

Mestic pulled out two switchblades and tossed them at the painted cat, one went through his paw and the other pierced through his heart. That one actually hurt him, it was the same spot Lious put the bullet through, resulting in Furrball remembering everything all over again. As the memories flashed before him, Furrball tried to remove the blades from his body yet for some reason Mestic didn't attack him in the process. Within a few seconds, the blue cat removed the blades, the one in his heart was the most difficult, he looked up and noticed that Mestic was gone!

He jumped to the window and saw that Lid's body was gone as well! He looked up towards an alley and saw the blue-shaded cat running off with the long-tailed feline over his shoulder. He heard cawing and looked down to see his crow Eric flying out of the house and chasing after them. His vision was transferred to Furrball and he too followed them.

"So Fifi broke up with you?" May asked Hamton, the two were in her kitchen drinking coffee while talking about their night since the baby shower.

"We're just taking a break," he corrected her, "she thinks we have…issues regarding others from our pasts."

"She means me, doesn't she?"

"She still thinks that there's something between us ever since you called my phone that morning."

"I'm sorry for doing that-"

"You should be."

"Aw Hamton don't-"

"No, it's true, it's starting to make sense now, if you never called then me and Fifi wouldn't be in this situation!"

"Don't get technical with faults with me, Hamton, you know perfectly well that it's your fault that you're in this mess."

Hamton looked back at her, he was confused, "how is this my fault?"

"You chose to see me for all these years, I gave you more than a handful of chances to make things right between us but you still held Plucky against me."

Hamton turned to the side with a satisfied smirk while rubbing his fist, he then turned back to May, "I saw him earlier at the hospital with the Bunnies, Shirley knows about you too."

"Then she's probably mad at him more than she is with me," she responded, "after all he's the one who pretty much started everything between us, we're all to blame."

"Maybe you're right, but still, you called and now Fifi hates me."

"Fifi doesn't hate you, she's just mad that you gave in to peer pressure, which ironically is Plucky's fault too, if he'd just shut up then you wouldn't have slept with her."

"I don't think-"

"Think about it, Hamton, who's really at fault here?" May got up off her seat, "if you never brought me to the studio then I never would've met him, so far, it's on you."

The pig continued to listen, much to his dismay, as she kept talking, "if the script never changed then Babs and Buster never would've interrupted your cartoon, now it's on them, but if it wasn't for Plucky then he never would've kissed me, hence making you hold a grudge against me."

The memories started coming back to Hamton, he had to think back in order to follow what May was talking about.

"So far it's on Plucky," she continued, "but you eventually got with Fifi and I didn't seem to matter, I gave in to Plucky's charm so it's now on me, that I can't deny," she walked over to him, "but when we reunited at Dizzy's you took it upon yourself to stay in touch with me even though we parted ways on bad terms and for years you came to me whenever Plucky bragged about sex with Shirley while you and Fifi haven't gone that step further, well now you did but you know what I mean."

"So who's at fault then?" Hamton asked, "so far I'm hearing everyone's names."

"That's because we're all at fault," May concluded, "you forced yourself on Fifi that night which in turn caused her to be fragile, now you look like the bad guy, you even went as far as to insult me so bad that you caused me to confront your friends yet I didn't even do that."

May sat back down, "we're all to blame, but with what's going on now is all on you because you had everything turn out for you so well that you just had to risk it all to make it that much better in your opinion, judging from how your girl was acting lately I can only assume that something went wrong the night you slept together?"

Hamton let a tear escape him, he sighed and started the story in shame. May listened and tried to keep her emotions to herself, all she could do was yell out in her thoughts.

"Look what you've done, Plucky! Your best friend just raped his own girlfriend!"

The nurses came back in the room and confiscated Cotton from Babs and Buster. They needed him in order to care for it while the pink rabbit rested and her husband to late fill out the forms to allow them to leave within a few days. As soon as the nurses left with Cotton, Buster immediately clung on to Babs and rubbed his face on the side of hers.

"Uh, Buster? What are you doing?" she asked, "we're in a hospital, I mean, I know I'm cute but I just gave birth to our child, did that get you in the mood or something?"

"Shh," Buster put a fingertip on his wife's lips, "let's just enjoy this, please?"

"Why? Is something wrong?"

"No, it's just that…after hearing about Furrball and Fifi earlier, I can't help but wonder that…what if it would've been me? What if I had been taken away?"

Babs took Buster's hand, "Blue-Bun, don't say that, I'd search the ends of this word for you, I can't live without you and you know that."

"I know Babsy," he replied, "but I can't help but wonder-"

"Well stop it, cuz' I've told you before, nothing is going to keep me from you, what happened with Fifi and Furrball is sad, it is, but we're lucky cuz' we don't have any enemies."

Babs shafted herself to look in the blue rabbit's eyes, "Elmyra's not chasing us anymore, Monty's too depressed to fight back, every Perfecto has failed in life and everyone else that ever crossed us is either locked up or forgotten about."

Buster looked back at her, "well if that's the case," he said, "then if it was me in that trench coat, wouldn't you be with someone else after all this time?"

Babs' face turned sympathetic, she knew her husband meant well and understood that the drama regarding their friends was making everyone a little paranoid but she ended up slapping the blue bunny across the face.

"Don't ever say that!" she yelled.

Buster was too shocked, he placed a paw on the side she hit slowly looked back, "…Babs…?"

"I just gave birth to our child, Buster, our child!" by this point, the pink rabbit had tears filling up her eyes, "can you imagine what Fifi is going through? She's caught between two guys she loves, how do you think that would affect me if I was her?!"

"Babs…I-"

"Falling for a new guy only to eventually be reunited with an old lover, who died, with no explanation would tear me apart! I don't ever want you thinking like that or even talking like that ever again, do you understand?! Those thoughts scare me to death!"

Buster looked at the hurt in her face, she was just as scared as he was, but with Babs, he was sure that their love was strong enough to not let anything get in their way. Their newborn son was proof of that, she loved him and he loved her back, and there was no point in throwing a whole lifetime of friendship, a still-standing relationship, as well as their marriage to top it all off. He went back to the pink rabbit and hugged her, she in turn hugged him and kissed him back, quivering in fear but comforted soon after.

Fifi opened her eyes to see that she was back in her Cadillac car, all by herself. She looked around and noticed that it was nighttime so she needed to drive off right away. The purple skunkette didn't even question how she got in there, last she remembered she was at the old Duff home looking for Furrball unitl she was found by that Alley Cat. The fact that it was night and that there were more of them still roaming around, she needed to find Furrball.

"Sacre bleu!" she exclaimed when she reached for the ignition, "vhere's zhe' keys?!"

Just then, she started hearing rustling noises outside the car, she yelped out in fear and jumped to the back seat only to hear the sounds getting louder and louder. Now the car itself started moving, as if it were alive on its own! The Cadillac continued to bounce on its wheels, causing Fifi to bounce all over with it! She tried to hold on to something but with the force the car endured didn't make it easy. The skunkette closed her eyes and hoped that it would all stop.

That's when it finally did, the car stopped moving and the noises outside were no longer heard. Fifi landed face down on the backseat, she shook her head to get the dizziness cleared. While rubbing her mouth from the hit she just took, she felt a soft brushing on her side. Almost ready to hit the ceiling, she slowly turned to the side only to see Furrball's tail brushing on her gently.

He did the same with his face and his whiskers brushed against hers until he placed both paws in an embracing hug. Despite the confusion, after a few seconds, she accepted the gesture and even embraced it. However, once she looked over to him for a second time, she noticed something different about him.

"Vhere' iz' vous coat?" she asked him, the cat looked up at her in confusion, "and vhat' 'appened to zhe' face paint?"

He opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted when the car windows shattered and Furrball yelped out in agony! Fifi ducked and saw the cat collapse in front of her while a big orange paw reached in through the broken window and picked up the blue cat. Furrball was thrown out behind and the car door was ripped open. Fifi screamed as she saw who the attacker was.

"Vous!" she yelled, "Lious! Get away from moi!"

The silhouette of Lious and his glowing eyes crept closer to her until another silhouette popped up from behind him. A crow flew right past them and cawed as loud as it could. Lious turned around only to be tackled by the silhouette of Furrball and his howling meow echoing in Fifi's ears.

Fifi woke up to find herself immobile, she noticed that she was not in a familiar place and began to struggle. She couldn't even yell as she found herself to be gagged and tightly strapped to what seemed to be a chair. Groaning and struggling, she was met with a very familiar face.

"Well, look who's up," Nicus commented, "ironic ain't it? Dis' is exactly what we put Furrball through."

Another cat showed up, this one bigger and more fierce-looking, Fifi recognized this one too.

"Look at her, Feral, she's almost like him, scared wit' nowhere to go an' nowhere to hide."

The big cat nodded, he looked back at Fifi and licked his lips, disgusting yet intimidating her.

"Oh good, yer' up!" yelled Lious, coming from the shadows, "now you can see what we'll be doin' wit' yer' boyfriend!"

The skunkette scowled at him, only her eyes were obviously shown but it still made Lious laugh.

"He's pro'bly finishin' up his last meal," he taunted, Nicus and Feral stood farther from behind with the former looking upset, "da' Mestic Supreme wit' a side of Lid!"

Nicus stepped forward to the cackling cat but was halted with a threatening glare from Feral as he stretched out his paw to block his way. The grey cat huffed and started to walk off. Lious noticed and turned around.

"Where'r'ya' goin'?!" Lious asked.

"I'ma' go look for Furrball m'self!" Nicus responded, "Den' I'ma' gut'im!"

"You will do no such thing! Feral will do it!"

"Why him? Are ya' tryin' to replace me Lious? Is dat' why I have less lives dan' him?!"

"I need ya' here, he's been more loyal dan' dat' bitch ya' say ya' don't love anymore!"

"Well why is he doin' everythin'?!"

"He can handle things just fine, do you wanna get yer' paws dirty?"

"What does dat' mean?!"

"It means dat' he's da' only one left, you still have a job to do an' that's takin' charge when I'm not around or takin' charge alongside me!"

The big orange cat turned to Feral, "go find Furrball an' bring'im back here, I don't care how ya' do it."

His voice was so cold in tone that Feral smiled deviously and nodded, he walked away and left their new hideout.

As soon as he left, Lious turned to Nicus, "what'sa'matta' wit' ya? Ya' actin' paranoid!"

"You'd act da' same way if I was actin' like I was betrayin' ya!" Nicus narrowed his eyes, "maybe even more dan' just paranoid!"

"What makes ya' think that? If I didn't give a rat's ass 'bout what ya' do den' we never woulda' found dis' warehouse an' hide in it!"

Lious walked closer to him, "we's fightin' for our lives here, an' that skunk girl over dere' is our key to survivin'!"

"But was it worth losin' our soldiers?!"

"Dey' didn't fall in vain!"

The two glared at each other once more until Nicus started to walk past Lious but stopped right behind him.

"So…we gonna' have fun wit' da' skunk girl or not?" he asked the bigger cat. Lious grinned, "ya' got yer' facemask?"

"Dis' warehouse has every'ding!"

Camilla walked downstairs to find her husband Calamity still on the computer. He had been on it ever since they came back from Babs and Buster's baby shower. He told her that he was going to bed a little later as he wanted to look something up, the 'Crow Theory,' she remembered him saying.

She found the coyote still on the computer taking down notes and going back and forth on the paper he was writing on and the screen.

"Cal," she yawned, "it's almost late, you about done yet?"

"I think I found something, Camilla," his voice box said, "check this out, the theory is not just a theory, it's also a legendary myth!"

Camilla knew he'd ramble on about this discovery so she quickly pulled up a chair and sat in front of him as he started.

"You see, a crow is believed to be the carrier of souls," Calamity stated, "and it's also been said that when someone tragically passes, a crow carries their soul to the land of the living in order to right the wrongs, the soul won't rest until the others do…at the hands of the one they tragically wronged."

"So what you're saying," Camilla tried her hardest to comprehend him, "is that your friend, Furrball, needs to kill the Alley Cats who in turn killed him years ago?"

"That's correct, as troubling as it sounds, he must succeed in doing so."

"Well Cal, if that's the case, then what happens to him when he finishes off the last one?"

"What?"

"I mean, does he walk the earth as an eighteen-year-old ghost? Or does he…what?"

Calamity stared at her, wide-eyed, he quickly turned back to the computer and then back to his notes.

"Oh no!" he realized it, "if Furrball takes out Lious then that means…we'll never see him again!"

Mestic held on to Lid's corpse over his shoulder as he kept running, he looked back and didn't see Furrball but he wasn't stopping to take that chance. Within seconds he found a building just a few running steps away from him, he bolted towards it and entered by crashing through the glass window. The blue-shaded cat landed on his back with Lid's body landing on top of him. He ignored the pain as he got up and started scavenging for a spot to hide in. Mestic took his lover's body and stashed her right beside him, now he went hunting for anything to use as a weapon should case be if the revived cat found them. He turned to Lid's corpse and kissed her forehead, he looked all over the place and saw that pretty much that the entire building was a weapon.

Eric flew towards the building and turned to see Furrball catching up to him. Once the cat arrived, he looked up to see the building and scowled, he turned to the crow and back to the building.

"I want you to fly inside and stay on a high ledge," he ordered, "I don't want them hurting you again so you stay put and be my eyes from up there."

Eric cawed and flew to the top of the building as Furrball watched him go. Through his vision, the cat saw that the crow flew inside the vent and was really careful not to turn a wrong corner in the process. The painted cat casually strapped the top part of his coat and made his way right inside. He looked up at the sign that hung on the entrance and found it quite fitting for this situation. Furrball didn't use the front door, but somehow, he managed to enter the Acme Slaughterhouse.
