Chapter: 20
When Hamton finished confessing the details of his night with Fifi to May, the female pig couldn't find the right words to speak. She started seeing him in a different manner, Hamton was no longer the shy awkward pig from Acme Loonivesity, he was now a stranger to her. Be that as it may, it looked like Fifi left him for that reason alone, he tried to be someone he wasn't and whenever that happens to someone, it backfires was on everyone, they were all to blame, including May herself.
"I feel awful," Hamton muttered, "when she made me realize what I had done…I just couldn't look at myself anymore, and it was just a while ago!"
"What you did was wrong," May got up again, "but you weren't thinking and that doesn't justify it."
Hamton's ears started to droop while she talked, "we're adults now, we take responsibility of our actions, even you were more responsible than most of us when we were younger."
Hamton nodded, "I just ruined myself, I can't go back to how we used to be."
"Maybe it's fate, even if you didn't do that then Fifi would still be torn between you and her cat friend, don't they have a history together?"
"Yeah but…I don't know, Furrball had his chance but after finding out, which I'm still having trouble believing, I don't think he'd be able to handle it."
"What do you mean, handle it?"
"Well, Fifi's a skunk, he wouldn't handle her stench like I do."
May sighed, "Hamton, you never dealt with her stench," she stuck out her hands to get her point across, "I've seen Fifi on TV so I know how she functions, her musk is around those she falls in love with."
"I know, that's what I'm saying," Hamton nodded, sounding a little defensive, "I'm the only one who seems to put up with it more than anyone else."
"Who are you trying to fool?"
"What?"
"For the whole time you've been seeing me, I've never detected her smell on you that wasn't perfume, you never dealt with her musk because she never released it around you, didn't she?"
Hamton didn't say anything, he started to look back on his moments with Fifi and started to remember. She remembered her kissing him affectionately around prom week, hugging him at a game where Perfecto Prep was defeated and even on their first date after Furrball disappeared, the skunkette looked scorned. It was all out of spite, Fifi's personality as it appeared was only as someone whose body knew just as well how the heart felt. He's seen in her cartoon shorts, the very small amount she had, captured her characteristics very well. Did he really want to deal with a girlfriend who couldn't be completely faithful via her own skunk instincts? Hamton thought for sure that Fifi gave up on skunk boys after Johnny Pew, but in the case of Furrball, that was a different story. That trait she had of chasing after skunk boys could make him jealous and since he wasn't a skunk then there was no way she would be faithful to him in that manner. But she was, Fifi stayed loyal to him despite it, she eventually grew out of that phase. But that was because Furrball was the first and last 'skunk' she ever chased, with him back he couldn't deny that it didn't change anything. With how she saw him after Shirley's vision, he was the one who left a hole in her heart that she didn't want to fill for it was reserved for one Toon, and Hamton wasn't him.
"Fifi doesn't love me," Hamton muttered, "does she?"
…
Lious and Nicus tortured Fifi back at their warehouse, the skunkette endured listening about the frightening details from when they captured Furrball and even compared her situation with his at the time. It didn't affect her as much seeing as how she had already witnessed it first-hand from the revived cat's powers but still, listening to them yelling it out didn't make it any easier. Even though the top Alley Cats were wearing gas masks to shield themselves from Fifi's musk, they still had new ideas of making her suffer.
After verbally abusing her, they moved on to physically hurting her by bringing out a bucket of tomatoes and throwing them at her. Those tomatoes exploded on impact when they hit her, they hurt enough that Fifi knew she would get bruises in the morning, if she survived until then. Laughing, pointing, and taunting her, Lious and Nicus were enjoying themselves by getting their own revenge against the very skunk who chased after them as well. Lious especially didn't, nor couldn't, forget when Furrball painted him and Nicus as skunks while unconscious. Adding insult to their injuries from being knocked out by a carnival bell, they were chased around by this very skunkette in front of them, covered in tomato juices. Seeing Fifi with her head down and her tail looking like it was giving up, the fumes were also dying out to the point where the air started to clear.
Fifi shuddered after everything she had endured, with no way out and unable to move, she had no choice but to hope as hard as she could for someone to save her. But until then, she had to take whatever was thrown in her direction. She tiredly shook her head and heaved, maybe her kidnappers would go a little easy on her, but then she remembered, they were Alley Cats, the two ring leaders at that.
Lious and Nicus took off their masks and glared at her.
"Hey Lious," Nicus looked over to the big orange cat, "what should we do wit' her now?"
"Fun doesn't stop til' our guest Furrball shows up," Lious replied, he then did a little sultry walk over to Fifi, "y'know, wit' yer' skunk smell gone…ya' pretty sexy, aint she, Nicus?"
The grey cat nodded deviously and walked towards them. Lious placed a paw on Fifi's thigh and she responded with a pleaded shake of her head.
"Aww, how cute," Nicus taunted, "y'know, I like it when dey' got some fight in'em."
…
Mestic wandered around the slaughterhouse, his claws unsheathed and alert. Throughout the whole place he heard nothing, a few steps onwards and not a sound was heard.
"I need to check on Lid," he whispered to himself, "then I can make another round until she's revived so we can get outta' here."
He turned around to head back to the female cat until he heard pawsteps.
"He's here," the blue-shaded cat whispered once again, "alright, I'm ready for ya'."
Mestic looked all over as the pawsteps were getting louder and then quieter, as if Furrball was running right past him and didn't even know it. Some of the lights were then flashed on, the cat looked over to see anything but it wasn't until he heard something from behind him land. Mestic quickly turned around to see Furrball's painted grin and immediately swung his unsheathed paw at him. Furrball dodged it by catching it and swinging it around to a wall. Not fast enough, Mestic used his hind legs to push him off and he sent him hitting a machine's lever, causing it to turn on. Furrball got up and grunted while Mestic ran up to him, giving him very little time to recover. The blue cat had him pinned.
"What's it gonna' take to finish you off?!" he yelled, "I've had it with you!"
Furrball quickly escaped the hold and pinned Mestic down this time, he had him faceing the wall near the ongoing machinery.
"You killed me, Mestic," he rasped, his voice was still recovering from the constant chokes he took, and with Eric still injured as well, Furrball was making slower recoveries, "you took me from everyone."
"You took me from Lid, and you just took her from me, eye for an eye!"
Furrball was starting to hate that phrase, he took Mestic's head and slammed his face on the ground. The blue cat screamed in pain, but the painted cat didn't care.
"You took me from my love!" Furrball yelled once again, "now Lious has her and I don't even know where he took her!"
"That's not my fault!" Mestic yelled back while still facing the ground, "Lious told us that he took of you, he allowed us to stay in the Duff home!"
"This doesn't excuse you from what you did to me all those years ago."
"We were following orders, we didn't have a choice!"
"You always…have a choice!"
Furrball unsheathed his claws one more time and raised them, only to be held back by the neck and pulled in that direction. The revived cat was once again pinned to the ground with a new set of claws piercing through his body. Given the dim lighting, he saw the one responsible.
Mestic pulled himself up to see Lid on top of Furrball, clawing his face!
"Lid!" he called out.
"Shut up, Mestic!" she yelled, "I'm gonna' have my revenge right now! Lious wanted us as real Alley Cats then here's one just for him!"
Lid continued to slap Furrball with scratches left and right but every time she did that, she started to notice the wounds healing themselves. She growled in frustration then turned to Mestic.
"You wanna' help?!" her eyes were feral, "find his bird and eat it!"
She turned back to see that the very crow she was talking about rammed right into her face. Lid was blinded from the impact but it gave Furrball enough time to escape and recover. He ran into the darkness while Mestic ran to Lid and checked out her condition. Lid was okay, as okay as she'll ever be, her eyes came back in sight within the minute.
"Forget about Furrball," Mestic ordered, "let's just get out of Acme Acres!"
"No! If we leave now then he'll still follow us!" Lid responded, "he won't leave us alone until one of us is buried in Elmyra's backyard!"
"If we don't leave now while we still have a chance then it'll be us!"
"I don't care! I want him gone now! Or he'll never let us live in peace!"
Mestic didn't answer as he was struck in the head and fumbled until he slid and hit his head on the machinery ramp. Lid screamed at what she had just saw, she turned to the side to see a hook on a cord that hailed from the ceiling swinging silently in front of her. She quickly looked up wards to see Furrball responsible for it. That cat jumped at her, tackled her to the ground and jumped back up. He quickly loaded an unconscious Mestic onto the moving ramp and got on it too.
"No!" Lid yelled, she got up and struggled with him to get her lover off the ramp. Furrball needed to work even faster now, he let go of Mestic's body and pounced at the long-tailed cat but she flipped him over and slammed him. Lid began choking him again, this time, with her tail.
"Any last words before I decapitate you?!"
Furrball smirked while he managed to wheeze out a few, "I'm just following orders."
That's when he dug his claws through Lid's hind legs as hard as he could until she screamed in agony. Lid got off of him and her tail loosened the grip on his neck while she held her bleeding legs. From the looks of her condition, she wasn't going to get up. Furrball rolled off the ramp and watched as the Alley Cat couple rode their way to a machine that they could only imagine what it would do to them.
With Lid knowing that she couldn't move with her legs, she crawled over to Mestic, "I won't let you go without me," she wept, "at least we'll be together, we wouldn't live a peaceful life but…now we won't have to worry anymore." She caressed his face, "I love you." The long-tailed cat planted a kiss on his lips while wrapping her tail around his left paw. Lid then turned to Furrball.
"I'll see you in Elmyra's backyard!" and with that she laid on top of Mestic's chest while awaiting their unfortunate demise in the machinery of the slaughterhouse.
Furrball heard her scream in even more pain but compared to the pain he had inflicted on her legs, this sounded a little tame. This scream sounded more like a sound of relief, and he knew why. Lid and Mestic's lives were now separate but the love that their souls shared wouldn't always be together.
Furrball sighed in relief, even though he hated them, he was, in a way, happy that they were together. Mestic and Lid were always beating around the bush, that he remembered from his old forced alley days, now that they were in love, the best way to go was together as one. He shed a tear just for them as Eric flew to him and landed on his shoulder.
"I'm almost done," he whispered to him, "but now…it begins."
The revived cat left exited the slaughterhouse and was about to start searching the streets until he was struck from behind. Eric cawed and flew to a safe distance and watched as Feral picked Furrball up and tossed him back in the streets of Acme Acres.
…
"I'm sorry, Hamton," May apologized, "but I can't really say for a fact if she does or doesn't."
"I can't believe this," he stated angrily, "all this time I thought I knew her well enough to notice this, I even thought that I was the reason she was able to control it!"
"Not all of us are capable of changing our lovers."
"But I thought I did, May, I thought Fifi gave up on skunk boys for me!"
"But Hamton…this is really hard to explain."
"What is? Tell me, what's so hard to explain?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"May."
The female pig sighed and buried her face in her hands, Hamton awaited her answer regarding the stance with him and the purple skunkette.
"Did you know that even your own fans had mixed feelings about you two?" she finally spoke out.
"What? What does that mean?" he demanded to know the answers to these 'accusations' as he wanted to call them.
"It means that…they didn't expect you to get her."
"Huh?"
"To them, you two were like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, except you actually are cool."
May blushed a little when she realized she said that but still kept her cool, "and just like them, you guys broke up, or are on break, whatever, but still, some thought that Fifi could've done better, other's were still wondering what happened to Furrball all this time."
Hamton remembered the times when some fans would ask Fifi and him where the cat was when they were out on dates, sometimes individually. Even so, neither answered for they didn't want to bring him up and disappoint. It wasn't just them who were approached on the matter, the other former Tiny Toons dealt with it as well, this is what started the passing of the bill for his search which would eventually meet unfortunate results.
"Fifi told you to work things out with me," May said as her friend started to forget his fans' reaction to his relationship, "and I want to do that."
Hamton calmed down and regained control, "so, what do I do?" he wanted to make things right but the problem was that he was carrying too much on him, being the only one of the Toons who was level-headed at a young age and now down to their level was now abandoned in the present with that mentality.
"Well first, you have to accept the fact that you are who you are, and what you do can't change that."
"But what about you?"
May stayed quiet for a bit, now was her chance and she wanted to do it right. The female pig sighed and looked up at him, "Hamton, I am so, so sorry for what happened with me and Plucky," her eyes started tearing up, "I know I've said it before, time and time again, but I've finally realized that my words alone aren't enough."
"Wh-what are you saying?"
"Plucky was just an in-the-moment inconvenience, I want to prove to you that he means nothing to me now..."
She gently placed her hands on the sides of his face, "I know you and Fifi just parted ways…but after Plucky's incident, I promised myself to never get in the middle of another friendship again, not even another's relationship."
The female pig brought her forehead close enough to Hamton's and gently touched his, "she told you to find out where we stand, well I'm giving you the answer."
Hamton saw May now kiss him on his cheek and then pressed her lips against his, but he didn't stop her, "this is your chance at redemption," she whispered to him, "just tell me when to stop."
May continued to show Hamton the affection she regretted not giving to him years ago. She was guilty by conscious as she started to compare him with the green mallard and started to regret more on it. she had hoped that by making up with Hamton then maybe she would be able to lift that burden off her shoulders, maybe even start over with him. But she still wanted to make things right with him, even if it meant not being in his life frequently or just by staying friends. The fact that she was able to put up with him for years and endure how things went with his relationship with Fifi, she fought the urge to not secretly hope that it would end badly.
"Just so you wouldn't think I'm thinking about him," she whispered once again while the pig just listened, "notice how there's nothing in this house that has green or involves a duck at all."
She wasn't sure, but May could've sworn she saw a small smile on Hamton's face. With that, she took him by the hand and led him to another room in the green-less house.
"This doesn't feel wrong at all," Hamton realized, he dug deep in his emotions, "I'm not soulless or heartless, Fifi and I are not together right now, this is supposed to help our relationship, she even said it herself."
And indeed she did, she left him with the intent on making sure that he had feelings for only one girl, be it May or her, and there was only one way to find out for himself. No doubt in his mind she was probably doing something similar with Furrball, just that image alone made him cringe a little but May's first step to his redemption was to accept whatever possibilities and move on. He was a free man now. Even after the door was closed, Hamton still didn't tell May to stop.
…
Feral stalked it over to a knocked-down Furrball and picked him up once again. The revived cat placed a paw on the bigger one's body for a quick glimpse in his subconscious in the process.
"Maybe he knows where they're at!" he thought. As Feral threw Furrball over a fence, the smaller cat only managed to get a small glimpse at what happened to him earlier. He saw that Lious took a life from him, that's when Furrball smacked the ground.
"He only has eight lives," he said to himself as he tried to get up, "that's still not making it easier, he has too many for me to deal with!"
Feral broke open a piece of wood from the fence and looked for the black-clad cat. It didn't surprise him that he went right through it, the wood looked to be old and out of shape, even Furrball could've broken through it, even when alive! The big cat then saw Furrball climbing the fence on the other side. He ran up to him but the painted cat was already too high up to reach. With his size, Feral couldn't jump it, at least not that high so he had no choice, he had to go through it just like the other one.
Feral went shoulder-first to the fence but didn't break it, he tried again and still nothing. As he tried a few more time, all he managed to accomplish was shaking the fence hard enough for Furrball to lose balance and almost fall off. The more it happened, the closer he came to Feral and in just two more tries, the two were merely inches from each other. Feral grabbed Furrball's hind leg and tried pulling him down with all of his strength.
"He's not going to let me go!" Furrball thought, he struggled to keep himself still holding on to the fence, "I need my paws to find out where they're keeping Fifi, but if I let go then he'll eat me!" He didn't know what to do, he couldn't do one thing without the other so he didn't have a choice. He was about to loosen his grip but Eric flew by and in front of Feral, causing a distraction. Furrball's leg was loose and he managed to get higher on the fence, he turned around to see Feral trying to claw the crow but the black bird started to fly towards the revived cat's direction.
Furrball wasted no time at all in reaching the top, he turned around slightly and saw something he could use to his advantage.
"Come on!" he called out to Feral, "I'm up here, let's finish this!"
Feral's eyes turned feral, his cold stare was deadlocked on him, Furrball could see him getting his hind legs pumped up for the jump. They readied themselves, one not letting the other out of their eyes. Feral then jumped as high as he could to Furrball and pounced on him, but the painted cat had a plan of his own.
Once he and Feral made contact, Furrball jumped back while still grabbing onto the big quiet cat, entering his memories long enough to find out were Lious, Nicus and Fifi were at.
"The warehouse!" he exclaimed, Furrball looked up and saw where they were going to land. He almost forgot about it so he pushed Feral as far as he could from him but it wasn't enough as the two landed inside the yard's swimming pool. The two cats went in but Furrball struggled to get out, within a few seconds he realized that the water had no effect on him anymore due to his condition. Calming himself down, he managed to get out but was met with splashes to the face. Trying to get his vision straight, Eric provided it for him and saw that right next to him was Feral struggling to get out.
Furrball made his way to one of the pool's edges and clung onto it, making his way up and out. He climbed back up and stood on the edge while watching Feral struggle a few more times until he gave in and sunk, leaving only bubbles in the spot he was in when he hit the bottom. Once those bubble stopped, that's when Furrball knew that Feral was finished.
"Water?!" he exclaimed, shocked, "that was his weakness?! That he couldn't swim?!"
His little rant was interrupted as the water splashed once again and Feral was resurfaced, but resumed struggling to get out. Furrball stood alert but saw right away that he was sinking again and the bubbles took effect once more.
"He's stuck in a loop," Furrball realized, "the rest of his lives are sinking with him," he called over Eric, "I want you to watch him, I'll be watching and counting but I've got to go find them, stay here and then catch up when his last life keeps him down there."
Eric cawed and Feral resurfaced only to go through the same motion again, "that's his third one, not counting the one Lious took," the cat told him, "when the eighth life is resurfaced, then you can join me, I'll see you at the warehouse."
Furrball left as he saw Feral struggle and sink again, "he revives himself quick," he stated sarcastically. Just then, he started chuckling, "you're next, Nicus," now his chuckles were turning into laughter, psychotic laughter.
"It's back to basics with you!" Furrball was now maniacally cackling, "You're going down…Tiny Toon style!"
As he had his little breakdown, he was met with lights shining in his face, his vision pierced right through to see a familiar face walk out of the car that they belonged to.
"Get in!" Calamity called out, motioning for Furrball to ride with him.
To Be Continued…
A/N: the scene where Furrball was with Lid and Mestic in that slaughterhouse was inspired from the sequel 'City of Angels' where Ash found Spider-Monkey. The demise was a little different here though. As for Feral, I had to think of something so unusual for him to go, so this was what I came up with, I can't repeat his demise with any other's so yeah, his demise was the hardest to come up with without making it bloody and gory. Also, just like what Furrball said, he's going looney on the next guy. I noticed that the story's gotten a little dark so I'm going to lighten the mood a little by adding a looney twist in the next update. It's back to basics, after all, this is TTA, comedy still lives in the cat. Thanks for reading, please review and I'll be back with an update, until next time!
