Legend of the Spirits

Chapter 11: Shock

JP's POV:

Everyone stared at the spot where the twins, Zoe, TK and Kari had disappeared, tense in case of attack.

However, after a moment, they relaxed slightly as Takuya pulled out his D-Tector and it displayed the image of a Phantomon.

"Not this guy again," he muttered fiercely under his breath, his grip on his D-Tector tightening out of anger.

After a few minutes, everyone relaxed further when Phantomon didn't appear.

"He got what he came for," JP growled, fists clenched as all attention turned to him. "They were waiting for a good time to separate us and we walked right into their trap."

Most of the DigiDestined had the decency to look ashamed, Ken, Tai and Sora more so than the others.

Mimi, as blunt as ever, shrugged slightly, "So, we messed up. Big deal; the good guys always win."

"If the good guys always win then why do we seem to be on the losing side right now?" Cody raised an eyebrow.

Mimi smirked slightly, "Don't you guys ever watch movies? There isn't a single one where the evil guy wins."

"That doesn't mean that we won't be an exception to the rule," Tommy sighed, head lowered.

Then everyone looked to their respective leaders; Tommy and JP to Takuya, the original five to Tai and the younger three to Davis.

The latter two were obviously uncomfortable, but Takuya quickly took charge, "There's no point in staying here; Kouji and Zoe are with them, so they should be able to escape and they know where we're going."

"You're suggesting that we just leave them?" Matt yelled, worried about his younger brother.

"There's nothing else that we can do, and in case you'd forgotten, it was your group's fault that we have to leave them in the first place!" JP spat angrily, getting surprised glances from the two remaining warriors and the DigiDestined alike; Kouji was rubbing off on him.

Matt looked down sheepishly and after a moment, Takuya, Tommy and JP boarded the waiting Trailmon, shortly followed by the DigiDestined.

Sighing, the warrior of thunder stared out of the window at the passing scenery, What have we gotten ourselves into this time?

Still JP's POV:

As Worm pulled to a stop, everyone slowly climbed out, staring up at the factory.

"Sorry that I can't take you farther, but I know where the last spirit is, and I'm not going there," Worm shuddered as Takuya smiled at him.

"Don't worry about it; thanks for your help!"

As Worm backed away, Izzy frowned suspiciously at Takuya, "Why won't he go to where Kouichi's spirit is?"

"You'll find out soon enough," Takuya sighed.

It was at that moment that the alarms stationed outside the factory began wailing.

Zoe's POV:

Although Zoe was awake, she kept her eyes closed with desperate hope that it would relieve her headache and make what had just happened a dream.

Unfortunately, it did neither, so she sighed and slowly sat up.

"You're finally awake, huh?"

Her heart leapt at the sound of Kouji's voice and she whipped around. She was in a one-walled cell with bars for the remaining three walls. Across from her cell, Kouji was in his own, leaning against the stone wall with his arms crossed in a bored manner.

"Yeah," she confirmed. "But where are we?"

"I'm guessing the Rose Morning Star," sighed another voice, "but that's just a guess."

Zoe turned to her right to see Kouichi groggily shaking his head, holding back a wince.

"It feels like the Dark Ocean…" a feminine voice whimpered slightly. Turning to her left, she saw Kari hugging her legs to her chest.

Figures no one would put her in the cell next to Kouji, Zoe scoffed silently.

"Anyone have any idea how to get out of here?"

But no one was smart enough to separate Kouji and TK, she mentally sighed as Kouji tensed.

If the twins, TK and Kari teamed up, they would be unstoppable, but with the latter two's fear of darkness, Kouji's pride and Kouichi's past, that seemed practically impossible.

"Well, I still have enough energy to spirit evolve," Zoe said with a smirk.

"Same here," Kouji confirmed.

"Execute! Spirit Evolution!" they both called, but nothing happened.

"What the-?" Kouji frowned before reaching a hand through the bars, yelping as it stopped in mid air before pulling it back.

He waved it in the air for a minute as though to relieve it of pain before growling in a dog-like manner – which kind of fit, what with his spirits and all, "It shocked me!"

Zoe reached her own hand through the bars slowly, pulling it back as soon as she felt and electrical tingle, "A force field…"

"So they're not as stupid as we thought," TK concluded. "Shoot; I really thought that things were going our way for once."

"I guess all we can do is wait for the others then," Kouichi murmured, leaning back against the stone wall.

Kouji, TK and Zoe both groaned while Kari sighed quietly; it was apparent that they all hated waiting.

JP's POV:

They rushed inside to find nothing out of the ordinary, but they had learned the hard way not to believe that everything was the way it first looked.

Unfortunately, they were right to think that, for screams began to fill the air, along with the sound of rushing water.

"Don't tell me we have to fight Ranamon already!" JP groaned as they ran inside.

When Mimi gave him a confused look, Tommy explained, "Ranamon is the legendary warrior of water, but she was evil last time we were here, and she was captured again this time, so if she's here, it won't be to help us."

The DigiDestined nodded in understanding as they pelted through the corridors before simultaneously slipping on the wet floor.

"Hey, what's the deal?" JP whined, struggling to stand.

"Just the usual, sugar; trying to steal your spirits," a childish voice giggled causing Takuya, Tommy and JP to groan. "Now the only thing I have to decide is which one of you kiddie-pies to destroy first!"

"How about you?" Takuya suggested, grabbing his D-Tector.

"Execute! Spirit Evolution!"

"Agunimon!"

"Kumamon!"

"JP, find your spirit now!" Agunimon yelled. He nodded and ran towards the generator room where he had first found his spirit.

Thankfully, someone had installed a flight of stairs so he didn't have to fall twenty feet to get to it.

He pointed at the spot that was giving off slight electrical sparks, not slowing down for a second, "SPIRIT!"

The spirit of Beetlemon shot out of the ground and into his hand, "Execute! Spirit Evolution! Beetlemon!"

He then flew back to Agunimon and Kumamon to find them struggling with Ranamon. While they had her distracted, he snuck up on her, "Thunder Fist!"

The attack hit the small of her neck, causing her to crumple to the ground, barely conscious.

"Why didn't you do that last time?" Agunimon gave him an incredulous look as Ranamon's fractal code began to appear although the warrior of water was still conscious.

"I never really fought her last time," he shrugged before raising his hand, ready to scan her data.

"Wait!" she shrieked. "If you scan my data, I'll lose my memories of what happened since my master employed me!"

"And that's a bad thing… why?" Joe deadpanned as a smirk stretched across her face.

"Because I'm the only one who knows where your friends are, and unfortunately for all of you, their time is running short."

Kouji's POV:

Kouji could stand being captured, he could stand being separated from my friends and he could even stand being in a cell next to TK.

But when Arbormon came in and tried to grab Kouichi, he snapped.

"Leave him alone," he murmured in a quiet, barely audible voice, causing Zoe and Kouichi to wince.

You see, he had three stages of angry; pensive angry when he just tried to sort it out in his mind, loud angry when he yelledl, or quiet angry when whoever annoys him becomes a dead man – or mon in that particular case – walking.

"Eh?" Arbormon glanced at him. "You's in no position to be telling me what to do!"

"I'll tell you again," he said, standing up and shooting him a death glare that made him take a small step backwards. "Leave. Him. Alone."

He shook his head as best he could, muttering, "He can't even do anything in there," under his breath.

That was a fatal mistake.

Subconsciously, Kouji raised his hand and what happened next shocked everyone, the warrior of light most of all. A beam of light shot out of the palm of his hand, hitting Arbormon square in the back.

He whipped around, staring at Kouji with wide eyes before slowly backing away from Kouichi's cell… and towards Zoe's.

Unfortunately, the blast of light had taken a lot out of him and he couldn't do it again, but Kouichi could.

As soon as Arbormon turned towards Zoe, he shot a stream of solid dark matter at the warrior of wood, who barely managed to avoid the attack.

Growling, he then turned to Kouji before yelping as Zoe flung a gust of wind at him.

Kouji know it wasn't the time to be questioning the powers when they were probably saving their lives, but still; how the hell did they get them?!

Seeing how the attacks had drained the trio though, Arbormon smirked and quickly grabbed Kari out of her cell, dragging her down the hallway.

"Kari!" Zoe and TK both yelled, the later struggling to escape his cell but only succeeding in being electrocuted to the point of unconsciousness.

Once Arbormon and the teacher were out of sight, they all groaned and fell to the ground, gasping for breath; they would really need to get those powers under control if they were permanent.

Hesitantly, Kouji reached through the bars of the cell where the blast of light had shot through, grinning as he only felt a tingle of electricity when the barrier stopped his hand rather than the extremely painful blast he had before.

It had weakened the barrier… but not nearly enough. And none of them were in any shape to attack it again.

Slowly, each of them found their eyes drooping closed and we eventually succumbed to sleep.

Kari's POV:

Kari fell to her knees as Arbormon shoved her into a dark room, closing the door as he walked in behind her. SheI instantly stood and backed away from him; she didn't trust him any more than Nyaromon would be able to throw him.

"No need to worry about me, child of light," he smirked… well, as best he could with his wooden features. He raised one arm and pointed to the figure behind her. "It's her you's supposed to be running from."

Kari slowly turned to see a black cat with purple markings and long, sharp claws stalking towards her, blue eyes glinting, "Hello, Hikari."

She gasped; only a few people and digimon knew her full name. TK, her parents, Tai and…

"Gatomon?"

"It's BlackGatomon now," she smirked as Kari clapped a hand over her mouth in shock. Then she attacked.

TK's POV:

"Is it me or is it getting hard to breath," TK wheezed. They had all woken up about twenty minutes previously to find a Bakemon leaving us food. Before he had left, he had flicked a switch up, but other than that, he didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

"Don't worry; you're not going crazy," Zoe whispered, sweat trickling down her face.

The twins frowned and walked forwards, staring at the lever the Bakemon had flicked up.

The two squinted at it but Kouji couldn't read the sign beside it whatsoever.

Kouichi on the other hand could, and he obviously didn't like what he saw, for he held back a yelp of fear, "They… this is a concrete basement with a steel door and no windows…"

"Obviously," TK muttered rudely before catching himself and giving the elder twin an apologetic smile while Kouji glared at him; he was still trying to process his views on darkness and while he didn't hate him anymore, it was hard to get used to darkness being on their side after hating it for so many years.

"We're definitely in the Rose Morning Star's dungeon. They had an oxygen tank in here so that when the doors were locked, everyone could breath," Kouichi murmured. "I remember that much…"

"Kouichi?" Kouji pressed in a worried tone.

"They…" Kouichi took a deep breath. "They turned off the oxygen…"

Then Kouji fell limply to the ground.

Ahahaha! I'm evil with the cliff-hangers! Please review so that I'm encouraged to continue!
