A long way home?
Malcolm grabbed the phone as Catherine approached Ruth. The younger woman rested a hand on her swollen abdomen as the baby kicked.
"Catherine." Ruth frowned.
"Where's Dad?" Catherine repeated. "I shouldn't be here."
"You should be on maternity leave." Calum stated as his fiancé glared.
"Pregnant not ill." Catherine stared.
"And as stubborn as her father." Ruth sighed.
"Says the woman who went into labour in work." Catherine raised an eyebrow in an expression so familiar that Ruth's heart ached.
"Harry is with Ros, we think. He went to see the Home Secretary."
"Oh no." Catherine ran a hand through her short blonde hair. "And that's the last you heard? I'm right aren't I?"
"Yes." Malcolm addressed his Goddaughter as he placed the phone back on the desk. "That was Sophie, Harry's informant in Whitehall."
"And?" Ruth turned to him as Adam and Zoe arrived.
"And it's not good news. She was moved when it came to Towers attention that she may be feeding us information."
"Go on." Zoe frowned. "And she's emailing us an encrypted file. Seems Catherine is right. This goes higher."
"Yeah." Catherine nodded. "Towers is dirty. Seemed he had an affair with Tessa about fifteen years ago. His wife never found out, Tessa made sure she had him in the palm of her hand. Dad was in hospital back in the late 1990s, when he was kneecapped."
"I know." Ruth frowned remembering the thin white scar along his left knee. "He and Juliet were almost killed."
"Yeah, it was just after that he and mum got divorced. But think about it. 8th June 1999 at 3pm Dad was under general anaesthetic having his wound cleaned and debrided. At the same time he was supposed to be with Tessa, Towers and Silvister signing a document that would effectively leave the UK open to Nightingale."
"Ireland were in the middle of peace talks, Afghanistan was just coming to our attention." Malcolm sighed.
"Harry is good but even he can't be in two places at once." Tariq frowned. "The files are coming through now. Encrypted," He smiled as he turned to the computer, glad to have something useful to do. Adam smiled slightly, knowing the baby of the team would work out what the files meant.

Harry watched the men at the far end of the corridor as Ros leant heavily against the white wall behind them.
"We need a phone."
"Yeah." Ros agreed as she rubbed the back of her neck, the pain burned as she moved. Harry was finding it more and more difficult to watch his friend's obvious pain. "That would be useful."
"Stay here."
"No."
"That's an order." Harry smirked as her eyebrows raised slightly.
"I know." She stared at him. "You can fire me if we get back to Thames house alive."
"When."
"Is now really the place for semantics?"
"Ros, that doorway leads to the PM's office. We go through there and no one can stop us literally walking out the door."
"One problem." Ros hissed. "Towers and Teflon Tessa are bound to have goons here. My back may also be a distraction."
"That one is easily fixed." He shrugged his jacket off before handing it to her. "I know the PM is in his chambers here rather than at Downing Street today because he is preparing the for The State Opening of Parliament with his sidekick. There is no way that he is going to draw bad publicity by colluding with Towers."
"He's met that journalist friend of Adam's?"
"Della Chapman, a useful asset when needed." Harry smiled as he thought of the woman in her mid thirties with a tongue as sharp as Ros and Connie put together. Ros nodded before glancing down the corridor.
"Move." She winced as Harry followed her.

Zaf glared at the blonde woman opposite him as Erin sat down next to him.
"Hi Honey." Christine smiled. "You worked all this out yet?"
Erin watched the woman who seemed completely at ease with being detained in an MI5 interview room. Zaf nodded once.
"1999, Harry Pearce, Tessa Philips, William Towers MP, signed a document which led to the death of Brewer's older brother. An MI6 officer." Christine smirked as she tilted her head. "Only that is what you think we have found out."
"Very clever of Harry." Erin snapped. "Signing a legal document while 50 miles away from the piece of paper and under general anaesthesia." Christine stopped smirking. "That was the lie you told Dominic Brewer. Or rather Tessa did. You stirred the racial hatred because that's what Nightingale does."
"Oh Zafar."
"You seem to have a toxic effect in the men who come into your life. Tom Quinn quits the service, you move to America only to return with Tom apparently the jealous lover out to kill you. Only he wasn't. He was part of Nightingale, along with Dolby and Andrew Lawrence."
"They saw the future."
"They're all dead." Erin stated. "No future now. Ros saved Lawrence's life twice and he falls into your arms and ends up dead. You seem to be the common denominator. All men dead."
"Brewer knows the truth."
"You set up the deal. What is going on with that document? How is Towers involved? You know Adam and Alec are talking to Brewer now? His little shadow is stewing in the cells."
"Honey, honey." She shook her head. "Turning Tom was the easy part. If Harry had been as easy to seduce then all this would have been over with years ago."
"Seduce Harry? You?" Erin laughed.
"I know, that's why I turned to Tom. Divide and rule. Towers is a pathetic leech, any young blonde polite and encouraging could get under his skin."
"This interview is to continue later."

Harry pushed his shoulder into the wooden panel of the door which gave way with an audible thud.
"What us the meaning if this?" Harry ushered Ros into the room as all eyes turned to the pair.
"Hello Prime Minister." Harry started. "I believe you may be overdue a cabinet reshuffle."
"Harry Pearce. Section Head iMI5 domestic counter terrorism." Sophie smiled as she saw the pair. "Ros Myers, Section Chief."
"Hi." Ros closed and bolted the door. "You have members of Nightingale in Whitehall."
"That is an outrageous accusation." The tall, dark haired man snapped.
"No Prime Minister, that is an outrageous fact. Now that my Section Chief and I have survived being kidnapped by the Home Secretary and Tessa Philips I would like to request safe passage back to Thames House so that we can focus on cleaning up a mess you never knew existed."
"Of course." The prime minister picked up the phone. "My driver will take you both. Oh and Harry, without evidence."
"We have the evidence." Ros stated. "Maybe you could suggest some people need to spend more time with their families." She smirked as Harry ushered her out of the office to where the Prime Minister's driver was waiting.
