I've not had any reviews for the last 2 chapters. I can only guess people thought it was a bit rubbish. This is the epilogue. Please let me know what you think.
Epilogue
Ros narrowed her eyes as the clean up from what she believed to be a partly failed operation seemed to drag on and on. She had spent hours with Special Branch and Harry going through the undercover operation, Stan and Jamie's attack and the murder of Brewer on MI 5 premises. The last person she wanted to think about was Tessa.
"She's literally vanished." Zoe threw her pen on the desk in frustration. Ros turned her head slowly to see the pen bounce and hit the floor.
"Then throwing your dummy out the pram wont help anyone."
"No one disappears." Harry stated. "Not forever, Tessa will resurface. It's what she does."
"Yeah." Adam watched as Ros looked around the room. The assembled officers all looked on the verge of exhaustion. Tariq yawned as he pressed a few keys on the computer. "Tar, you ok?"
"Yeah."
"Go home." Harry stated firmly. "Whatever she is up to, we will eventually catch up with her. Special Branch are dealing with the fall out of the riots, which thankfully seem under control."
"I'll give Tash a lift home." Alec stated as he stood up. "Any news, let me know." Adam nodded as he watched the former IA man leave the Grid. Malcolm ran a hand over his face as he tried to make sense of everything that had happened. Tariq yawned.
"Go home. Everyone."
"But." Malcolm stated as Ruth took another phone call. She bent her head and began scribbling with one hand as Harry spoke to the team.
"There is nothing more to be done tonight." Harry paused. "Besides, no one disappears forever. Tessa will make a mistake and we will catch up with her."
"Karma is a bitch." Beth stated. Harry smirked.
"Yes, Miss Bailey. Now home. Before I find more work for you all." The sudden scraping of chairs brought a smirk to his face. It seemed he wasn't the only one who was exhausted. Ruth ended the call just in time to see Lucas and Ros leave the Grid. Looking around she realised she was the last there with Harry.
"That was Sophie."
"Ah." Harry nodded. He genuinely liked the young red haired woman who had provided so much useful information.
"She's worried."
"When isn't she?" Harry leant against Zaf's abandoned desk.
"Towers is out. The Prime Minister has officially sacked him. A cabinet reshuffle with be announced tomorrow morning at 10 am."
"Where is he?"
"No idea. No one has spoken to him since you and Ros left Whitehall." Ruth held his gaze. "He's vanished, his family are refusing to comment. Apart from saying he's taking some time for himself away from politics." Harry raised an eyebrow.
"OK, so chances are he's with Tessa."
"Probably." Ruth agreed. "According to Sophie, the next Home Secretary is going to be Jessica Peterson."
"Really?" Harry closed his eyes. "That woman makes Tessa and Juliet look like kittens."
"Do not let Juliet hear you say that." Ruth smiled. "Peterson is tough. Apparently Margaret Thatcher was a role model of hers for a while but she thought she was a bit soft." Harry shook his head before walking across to his office before returning with his jacket.
"When I said home. I meant everyone." Ruth got to her feet, relieved to be going home. "Stan and Jamie are going to be fine and it sounds like this Home Secretary can handle Nightingale."
"Yes." She smiled as he ushered her towards the Pods. "I think she can. Anyway, we haven't met our granddaughter yet."
"Much more important than looking for that infernal woman." Harry kissed Ruth's cheek before ushering her out of the pods into the night.
