He pulled back suddenly. "River!" He stared at her in shock.
Her smile dropped. "What? Have we not done that before, or-"
"N-no, we have, but..."
She smiled again. "Good."
She kissed him again, softly at first, then stronger. His hands finally settled, one on the low of her back, the other knotting in her curls. She raised one leg, wrapping it around them as she pressed against him, trying to get closer. He moaned softly as she undid his bowtie, pulling it off and throwing it onto the floor.
Her tongue entered his mouth, running over his tongue with fierceness. As their tongues overlapped one another's, she pulled off his overcoat, dropping it somewhere near the bowtie. She continued to kiss him as her hand made it's way towards his trousers.
"Ah, are you sure you want to do this?" His voice was breathy, soft, and weak.
She stopped for a second then smiled. "You're right! Come on, let's go to your room."
She dragged him slightly, while he attempted to argue. He gave up with sigh. This was River, after all. You could never argue with her; she will always get what she wants.
He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling, not yet remembering what had happened hours before. When it did finally hit him, he jerked up into a sitting position.
He stared at the body laying beside him, breathing rhythmically. He considered waking her, but decided against it.
He crept out of bed slowly, making his way towards the bathroom to shower.
He showered, the entire time wondering what he was forgetting. There had to be something...
Only when he was wrapping a towel around his waist did he think about things. About River...
He dressed quickly and practically raced to the main console, knowing exactly what the outcome was. As he predicted, her body scan read pregnant.
He let out a slow sigh, not sure if he was happy or worried.
"What are you looking at?"
He turned swiftly, exiting out of the screen before she could see. "Nothing!" he said, a little too fast. He tightened his bowtie. "Nothing, I was looking at nothing."
She raised an eyebrow suspiciously, opening her mouth to question him. He interrupted. "So how long are you staying?"
She rolled her eyes. "I actually need to be getting back. Can you give me a lift?"
The Tardis materialized in front of her cell at Stormcage, and she stepped out quickly before any guards noticed her arrival.
The Doctor sighed, smiling. "You really need to stop escaping, River."
She laughed. "Oh? And who's going to stop me?"
He opened his mouth and she shot him a look.
"Just try not to so often? Eventually, they're going to move you to a higher protected facility, someplace I won't even be able to get you out of."
She smirked. "I highly doubt that."
"Well, it'll just be harder for me and the Tardis."
She chuckled, and they lingered for a moment, neither of them really wanting to leave. Down the hall, he could hear the heavy footsteps of what had to be a group of men. Large men. With guns. His muscles twitched with the thought.
He swallowed nervously. "I should probably get going..." He looked over her shoulder worriedly.
She nodded. "Best if you do." She walked towards her cell before turning and blowing a kiss. He grinned as he closed the door, the Tardis materializing away.
He sighed. He should've told her, but then again, it would've only altered his time line, something he did enough of. Still, he felt guilty. Very guilty. Although he knew everything was going to turn out alright, he couldn't help but worry that what he said, what they'd done would change her future.
Nothing else to do but go back to River. The other River.
The Tardis materialized outside River's friend's home, catching the attention of a few of the neighbors. The Doctor noticed the weather was chillier since he had dropped River off. Must be a cold spell. He thought to himself, though deep down, he knew he was a little too late.
He considered his options; facing a pissed River, or leaving before anyone noticed. He swiftly turned back to the Tardis, almost inside before a voice barked at him. "Sweetie."
He swallowed heavily and turned, facing River's sharp glare. He smiled sheepily. "Hello, River." He spoke slowly.
She crossed her arms. "You're late."
He looked her over. She was larger, but by how much, he couldn't tell, due to the massive coat she was wearing. "Yes, I realized that. Er, how late, exactly?"
"A month." Her words were sharp, seething with anger.
He collapsed a little on the inside, upset with himself for always doing this. He was always late.
"I-I'm sorry, Riv-"
"You should be!" She snapped, causing him to flinch, taken aback. Her voice softened as she continued to scold him. "You missed so much...I just wanted a few days to myself, and her I was, stuck with an old friend for a month, one who got quite annoying after the first week.
"Do you know how much you worried me, Doctor? Leaving me this long with no idea when you'd be back? I had no idea if you'd be there in a few weeks or a few years. You could've missed her birth, her first st-"
"What?" He interrupted her, gaping.
She shot him a look, then realized with widening eyes what she had said. She stared down at her feet. "You should've been there. With me, when I found out, I mean."
He swallowed heavily, repeatedly glancing at River's stomach and back at her face. "It's a girl?"
She nodded slowly, her voice quiet. "I really wish you had been with me when the doctor told me. I- I was quite heartbroken when you didn't show up."
They stood in silence for a moment, glancing at each other, then back at the ground.
He broke the silence, a smile broadening on his face before stepping forward to wrap his arms around her. Her body unstiffened as he held her in her arms. She glanced up at his face; tears were forming in his eyes.
"A girl. I'm going to have a daughter."
