{A.N.: Sorry, I know it's been a very long time since I've updated, but I wasn't feeling it until someone sent me a very nice review that got my spirits up to do some writing. School's out for me, which means a little more writing (hopefully). As always, thanks for reading!}

River wanted to leave immediately once the Doctor arrived, hating the idea of spending anymore time with her old friend. "I never realized just how horrid she was." River stated, shaking her head with a sigh. "Let me just get my things, and then we'll leave."

The Doctor chuckled. "You don't want to tell her goodbye? Or at least thank her for letting you stay?"

River thought for a moment, then held out her hand. "I think some money would be thanks enough. She is sleeping, after all."

Repressing a scoff, he handed her a few hundred pounds. "Do you need help getting your things together?"

She shook her head. "No, I'll get them. It'll only take a minute."

The Doctor chuckled as he watched his wife walk inside, making his way back to the Tardis. That went smoother than expected. At least she didn't scream at me. The Doctor was deep in thought, suddenly interrupted by a high-pitched screech coming from the house. He rushed inside.

River stared at the mangled body of her old friend before her, a hand raised to her mouth in fear she would puke. From behind her she heard the Doctor enter.

"River! What's-" She looked at him, tears rolling down her cheeks. He stared silently at the body, then pulled River up into an embrace.

He held her tightly. "River, I-I know, it's horrible, but it's not safe here, we have to leave!" He swallowed heavily as she resisted against him.

"Why!? Why would someone do this?!" She cried out, reeling over with sobs.

"I don't know, but we have to go. It isn't safe!"

A chuckle came from behind them. "You're right; it isn't safe." The voice stepped into the lighter part of the room, revealing Madame Kovarian. "But you're not going anywhere."

River fell back against the Doctor as they attempted to back away from the eye-patched woman. She laughed at them, a smirk plastered on her face as she inched towards them.

"Why the hell would you do something like this?" River choked out.

Madame Kovarian chuckled. "I had to get your attention some how, didn't I?"

River gaped at the woman, gasping. "You BITCH!" River slapped her against the face before rushing past her. "Doctor, run!"

They ran past her, entering the Tardis and slamming shut the doors. The Doctor quickly started her up, breathing heavily.

"We don't have much time; we have to find someplace safe, River." He stepped away from the console and made his way over to River, who was staring off into the distance, wide-eyed. "River? Are you okay?" He asked worriedly.

She looked up. "What? Oh yes, I'm fine. It's just-AH!" She reeled over, clutching her stomach in pain. The pain passed, leaving River breathing heavily as she attempted to regain her composure. "I-I'm okay, Doctor, stop looking at me like that."

He crouched beside her, his arm resting on her back. "Are you sure?"

She nodded, forcing herself to smile weakly. "Don't worry about me, we need to get someplace safer. She'll be able to find us faster if we're in the Tardis."

The Doctor helped her up, walking her over to the railing so she would have something to lean against. He walked over to the main console, then turned back to River, wringing his hands together. "Anywhere in particular?"

The Tardis materialized in the midst of a small town, hidden away in the corner of an alley, where the Doctor hoped no one would find it. He knelt beside River, who sat on the floor. "Do you have the energy to move yet?"

She attempted to move, only to fall back. River shook her head. "No, not yet. She-she's kicking quite hard, Doctor." She clenched the railing tightly, pushing herself up off the floor.

"Let's go." The Doctor helped River, walking beside her slowly with a hand on her back, supporting her.

He reached out to open the door, only to be interrupted. He pulled back, startled. "River, stay back." He warned, adjusting his bow tie. Nervously, he opened the door.

A man stood before him, a cocky grin on his face. The man tilted his head, questioning. "Doctor?"

The Doctor stared wide-eyed. "Captain Jack?

"Is that a new body? Looks good." Jack's eyes looked him over, a smug smile on his lips.

A voice spoke from behind them. "I don't know who you are, but could you please stop flirting with my husband?"

Jack turned, glancing at River, then once more at the Doctor. "Am I interrupting something?" He moved his attention to River. "Hi, Captain Jack Harkness." He held out his hand for her to shake.

She obliged. "River Song. And yes, actually, we were just on our way out. We're kind of in the midst of something."

"Oh?" He glanced at the Doctor.

The Doctor opened his mouth to explain, only to be cut off by a sound coming from the console. "Oh, no."

River stared at him. "What is it?"

He looked up, his eyes filled with worry. "They've got us surrounded."
