SURPRISE!
Alec awkwardly walked into the cafeteria, dodging people who shoved past him with their trays of food and staying clear from Jonathan Morgenstern's table. He walked over to the table where Magnus, his siblings and his sibling's friends were sitting at, the conversation that they were having going silent.
Alec shifted from foot to foot looking anywhere but at the people at the table, "Isabelle can I please talk to you?" he asked. "It's really important."
"Sure," Isabelle said coldly. "Go ahead talk."
Alec looked at Isabelle, her face was void of emotion and her eyes were blank. "Can I talk to in private?" he asked softly, he looked back down at his feet. "Please."
He heard her sigh loudly and a chair scraping back. "Fine," Isabelle said. Alec looked up and saw her walking over to him; she grabbed his wrist and dragged him out of the cafeteria.
She pulled him down the schools corridors and Alec was practically tripping over his feet, because of how quickly she was pulling him down the halls. "Isabelle can you please stop, we need to talk."
Isabelle stopped and Alec ran into her back, "Sorry," he mumbled.
Isabelle turned around and faced him, her face still blank. "Talk," she said.
Alec nodded, "Okay." He looked at her, everything he thought he had prepared flying out of his head. "I-I-I 'm sorry," he stuttered out.
Isabelle looked at him, "Is that all you wanted to say?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
Alec could feel tears welling up in his eyes, he felt stupid, he couldn't even remember what he had prepared to talk to her about. He felt a wetness sliding down his cheek, Stop crying you idiot, he told himself. "I'm sorry," he repeated his voice thick.
He looked away from Isabelle and tried to remember what he was going to say, "Isabelle…" he started hating the way how his voice sounded like he was crying. "I really am sorry that I tried to kill myself, I just thought everything would be better without-" a sob tore through Alec's throat, cutting off what he was going to say next.
He felt Isabelle's arms circle around him, "I'm sorry," he sobbed out. "I know you hate me."
"Shhh," Isabelle whispered. "I don't hate you Alec," she said.
She does hate you Alec, the little voice said, she's lying.
"I was just upset and mad at you," Isabelle continued, "I know I shouldn't have yelled or ignored you I just needed time to understand and wrap my head around it all." Isabelle's arms tightened around Alec, "I just didn't know why you wanted to kill yourself."
Alec wiped at his eyes and looked at Isabelle. "I thought everyone would be happier without me," He admitted.
Isabelle tightened her grip around him, "We wouldn't have been happier without you Alec," she whispered. "Remember our years at the orphanage?" she asked.
Alec nodded, of course he remembered those years at the orphanage; they were hell.
"Remember how a couple would always want to adopt Max or Jace or Me but we would never say yes because they didn't want you or the rest of the family." Isabelle said, "We wouldn't have been happier without you Alec, you're our older brother, you're my older brother. We need you in our lives without you we wouldn't be able to do anything."
Alec looked at her, tears still falling down his face. "You really think that?" he asked.
Isabelle nodded, "Of course I do and I know that Jace, Max, Magnus, Vicky, Jeffery and everyone else thinks that too."
She's lying Alec, the voice hissed, nobody cares about you they'd be happier if you were dead.
Alec tried to manage a smile, "I am really sorry," he said.
Isabelle gave him a smile, "I know you are, and I'm sorry for ignoring and yelling at you."
Alec wiped his eyes, the tears finally managed to stop, "It is okay I kind of deserved it."
"You didn't deserve it," Isabelle said, she let go of Alec and wrapped her arm around his shoulders, "Now how about we go eat something, you can have some of my lunch and Magnus will probably let you have his left-overs."
"It's okay I'm not hungry," Alec mumbled.
Isabelle sighed and the two of them walked into the cafeteria together, Alec kept his head down because it was probably quite obvious that he had been crying. "Back so soon you two?" Jace asked when the two of them had made it to the table.
Isabelle sat down next to Simon and Alec sat down in the spare seat next to Magnus, but he kept his head down so nobody saw his face and asked questions.
"What did you talk about?" Clary asked.
"Oh you know the usual things, we talked about feelings and fashion and boys." Isabelle said pushing Alec half of her sandwich. "Right Alec?" she asked.
Alec nodded and took a bite of the sandwich. He kept his head down, and continued to eat the sandwich. "Isabelle seems to have forgiven you," Magnus said.
Alec jumped in his seat and turned towards Magnus, some of the sandwich falling out of his mouth. Magnus was laughing silently, "Sorry for scaring you hon."
Alec swallowed the rest of the food in his mouth, "No sorry, it was my fault."
Magnus moved his face closer to Alec's and Alec thought that he was about to kiss him but Magnus said, "Have you been crying?" he asked softly.
Alec quickly looked away from Magnus and shoved the rest of the sandwich in his mouth so he didn't have to respond to the question, though he knew he'd probably tell Magnus about it all later. "Alec," Magnus whispered, "it's okay, I'm not going to laugh at you or anything."
"What are you two talking about?" Simon asked.
"Nothing you'd be interested in." Magnus said smoothly.
Simon rolled his eyes and turned to Isabelle to start up a conversation with her, Alec noted how Simon was looking at her, he looked like he was in love.
The bell rang, signalling the end of lunch and Alec got up and walked towards his next class with Magnus walking right beside him.
Have some pie, I'm also sorry…
-Kate.
