I updated the previous chapter with an extra section sometime in the afternoon of Wednesday March 26, so if you read it before then I suggest you go back and read it again. It's not a big deal but it is a continuation of that day's events. I guess I did originally post the chapter too early!

The weeks passed. Gustavo had given Big Time Rush a break as for the most part they would have been on tour anyway and already had a scheduled break for Mrs. Knight's original due date. Kendall had written a very lovely letter that had been posted on the band's official website. Honestly, he hadn't wanted to be so open about the situation, but he couldn't just let the fans wonder why BTR quit their tour. The fans were very appreciative sending Keegan tons of gifts. Most of them ended up being donated to women's shelters, children's homes, and children's hospitals among other charities, but the Knights kept a few.

Keegan's progress was slow, but it was there. His organs were growing as was he. He now weighed almost 5.5 lbs and measured at 17 inches long. He'd lost that translucent look and at first glance appeared healthy. He was healthy for a 17 week premature baby.

Kendall smiled at the pictures his mom kept sending him. There was one from when his little brother opened his eyes the first time to reveal bright blue irises. Another showed him taking the first sips from a bottle. He was no longer on a feeding tube, but still needed help breathing.

"And that's Mitch holding him for the first time." Sitting by the pool in a lounge chair he swiped to another picture. "And that's Katie holding him for the first time."

"And that's you holding him for the first time," Jo said as Kendall swiped to the next picture.

"Yep."

"You want to visit your brother later?" Jo had a day off from filming New Town High and was spending it relaxing with her boyfriend.

"I'd like that."

"I know." He gave his mother privacy in the morning, but most afternoons would find Kendall in the NICU.

Entering the hospital Kendall closed his eyes. He could navigate this place in his sleep he's been here so much in the past sixteen weeks, first with his mom in the hospital and then with the birth and placement of Keegan in the NICU.

"What are you doing?"

"Imagining this hospital in my head."

"We have been here an awful lot lately."

"You're not upset about that, are you? I feel like I've been taking you on dates to the UCLA Medical Center for the past four months."

"Well, aside from hanging out by the pool we haven't really done anything else. But, it's okay. It's about your little brother and I understand. I love him, too." She squeezed Kendall's hand to let him know she was okay with this.

"I'll make it up to you soon. We'll go to a movie or the beach or something."

"You don't have to. Just spending time with you and watching your brother grow is enough."

"I get it. You'd rather date Keegan. You think he's cuter than me, don't you?"

Jo laughed. "I didn't want to say anything, but now that you brought it up…"

"Let's go visit your future boyfriend," Kendall grumbled adding a smile at the end.

He looked into the window of the NICU at the mothers and their babies. There were a few babies who didn't have anyone visiting them. Kendall hoped they had someone coming soon not that their parents or other family didn't care. His mother spotted them and waved for them to come in. In her lap she held her young son who looked to be smiling, but most of the time that's just due to gas in babies.

"Hey, Mom," Kendall greeted his mother with a hug. "How's Keegan?" He looked down at his baby brother who laid his head against his mother's chest.

"Do you notice anything different?"

"Um, he gained a few ounces?"

Jo laughed.

"Oh, so you figured it out?"

She nodded her head.

"Well, Baby Brother," Kendall bent down to look him in the face, "what's new with you—oh!" He went to tickle Keegan's nose when he noticed what was missing. "Mom, is he breathing on…his own?"

Mrs. Knight nodded.

"He had tests run yesterday. His organs are developing on schedule with what he'd be in the womb. His lungs are functioning properly so his doctor decided it was time to try him without assistance. He's been breathing on his own since I came in this morning at 8."

"Why didn't you let us know?"

"I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up in case things didn't work out and, well, you have been visiting in the afternoon so I figured I'd surprise you."

Kendall patted Keegan's back. "We have to call Katie and the guys." He ripped his phone from his pocket and began dialing. "Katie!" He practically shouted into the phone.

"What's wrong, Big Brother? Is…is Keegan—"

"You have to come down here."

"Is something wrong?"

"Is one of the guys around? They need to come, too."

"Logan's in his room with Camille. Kendall, you're scaring me."

"Sorry, I don't mean to. Just gather the guys and come to the hospital."

"OK."

"Take a picture," his mom whispered.

Kendall turned to see Jo cradling Keegan in her arms, the first time he'd been held by someone outside the family (not counting doctors) and that included Carlos, James, and Logan. Little Keegan looked positively serene in her arms.

"One week," Kendall said. James, Carlos, Logan, Katie, Jo, and Camille sat on the orange couch that evening gathered around their brother, boyfriend, and trusted leader. "They said if everything goes well Keegan can come home in a week."

"We don't even have a place for him," Katie pointed out.

"Your mom is so busy at the hospital we should figure out where he should sleep," James suggested.

"Aw man," Kendall groaned.

"She hasn't bought anything, has she?" Logan asked.

"Baby shower!" Jo and Camille exclaimed together.

"Good thing we're here!" The door burst open revealing Brooke Diamond, Sylvia Garcia, and Joanna Mitchell.
