"Surprise!"

Jennifer jumped back.

Keegan burst into sobs.

"We're so sorry. We didn't mean to make him cry!" Kendall ran up to hug his mom.

"We thought…well, we didn't really think it would scare him," Logan said.

"We just wanted to surprise you with a baby shower," James joined in.

"And since you already knew about the shower we thought the surprise would be for when you brought Keegan home rather than waiting for tonight," Carlos added.

Jennifer stood in the lobby of the Palm Woods holding her newborn son in his carrier with a tear in her eye. She had such wonderful friends who would go through such trouble for her.

"Thank you," she blubbered.

"Aw, she's gonna cry," Katie commented.

"We wanted to have the party out by the pool," Carlos said, "but Mama told us it's better for Keegan if we stay indoors."

"Oh my gosh, can someone get him to stop crying!" James shouted covering his ears with his hands. Kendall, Logan, Carlos, Katie, and Mrs. Knight sent him dirty looks.

Kendall bent down to his brother's level. Keegan lay in his carrier placed on the floor by his mom's side.

"Hush little baby, don't say a word," he began to sing, "brother's going to make you a handsome king,"

"If as handsome king you don't pass, James is going to buy you a looking glass," James joined in.

"If that looking glass gets broke, Logan's gonna buy you a billy goat," Logan added.

"And if that billy goat won't pull, Carlitos here's gonna buy you a cart and bull," Carlos continued.

When the boys finished the lullaby Keegan looked at them with wide blue eyes, tears subsided, a toothless smile on his face. They said it was gas but Kendall knew.

"Thank you so much!" Mrs. Knight grabbed Kendall and her pseudo-sons in a hug.

"Don't thank us," Logan said. "It was our mothers' idea."

"Thank you," she called out to the moms.

"Anything for you, Mrs. Knight," Camille (not a mom) said. "What do you want? We have cake and other food," she motioned toward a table containing a beautiful cake in the shape of a pair of blue booties, "or presents?" she motioned to the table opposite looking like it would collapse under the weight of all the gifts.

"It looks like presents will take a while, so why don't we start with the cake."

"Good choice, Mrs. Knight," Carlos said heading toward the table.

"Wait, let's get a picture first," Brooke ordered. "Jen, you stand next to the cake with Keegan in your arms and Katie and Kendall, stand on the other side."

Katie and Kendall shared an eye roll and then did what James's mom said.

"Welcome home, Baby Brother." Kendall cradled Keegan as they entered the apartment after the shower. "It's a little crowded, but this place is our home. It's provided us with many fun adventures and I know it'll do the same for you."

Keegan yawned stretching his arms out of the blue blanket wrapped around him.

"Thanks for helping us," Carlos barged in carrying a pile of boxes taller than him. The top box fell and hit him on the head. "Good thing I've got my helmet."

"I'm carrying the baby," Kendall pointed out.

"Hey, yeah!" Carlos placed the boxes on the floor and carefully took Keegan from Kendall's arms.

"Keeg, this is our crib." Carlos waved his arm dramatically. "This is the kitchen, the dome hockey set, the orange couch, and this," he patted the yellow slide, "is Swirly. When you're older I take you down. You're gonna love it."

"All right, you two." Mrs. Knight put the empty baby carrier on the round coffee table. "There's more stuff downstairs and he," she took the baby from Carlos, "needs to eat. Oh shoot, I don't think I have a bottle prepared.

"I'll get that for you, Mom."

"Thanks, Kendall."

"Here you go, My Little Prince." Jennifer placed Keegan in a small bassinet she had received at the baby shower. He wasn't ready for the crib just yet. "You had a busy day."

The second she lost touch with her son he began to cry.

"Don't be scared, Little One. This is your home. It's a wonderful secure place. And I'll be right here." She pointed to the bed.

Keegan's whimpers continued so Jennifer began rubbing his belly calming him down.

"Hey Mom," Kendall opened the door a crack and peeked in. "I heard him crying. Is he okay?"

"He's fine, just getting adjusted to the new place. Why don't you go back to bed?"

"If you need any help you know I'm just down the hall."

"I know, thank you."

Kendall stepped into the room and gave his mom a kiss on the cheek. He followed that up with a kiss on his little brother's cheek. "Love you, Baby Brother," he whispered. "Love you, too, Mom."

"I love you, Kendall, and I'm sure Keegan does as well."

"This is a big change for all of us." Kendall sat down on the bed next to his mom. After Kendall had opened the door she had sat down on the bed still rubbing Keegan's tummy. "But, we're here for you—me, Katie, and the guys."

"I know, thank you. I really couldn't have done it without you or the other moms."

"You deserve it." Kendall laid his head on his mom's shoulder. "You've done so much for us. You gave up your life in Minnesota to follow James's dream and you took in three sons in a new place."

"It's been a good change. Look at you boys and Katie. You've grown up so much. This opportunity has provided you with a much better life than I ever could have."

"Mom, it's not about money or fame or fortune or whatever. It's about love and you've done more than enough loving and caring for your children and pseudo-children."

"Oh, Kendall." She swiped at a tear falling from her eye.

"I didn't mean to make you cry." He kissed her cheek again. "I'm going back to bed. If you need anything I am willing to help."

"Thanks."

Sounds like the end, doesn't it? Well, it's not. OK, it's the end to this chapter but not the story. Got more coming for you. Sorry it took so long getting this chapter out. I got sidetracked with Dancing With the Stars (congrats, James, on fourth place! In the beginning I never would have imagined! Oh, and thank you, Rushers and Jeta fans, for voting for him!). It really put me behind on a lot of things and that really held up my writing (I sound like I'm the one who was busy dancing and rehearsals for three months. I wasn't, but following and supporting James sure felt like I was…I'm sure you can relate!).
