A/N: Here's another update for you guys. Thanks for all the follows, favorites and reviews! I love you all!
Daryl POV
Daryl was the first to wake up the next morning, rising before the sun came up, and his stomach immediately twisted into a knot. He heard the not-so-distant cackling of flames from a fire. He knew this was wrong. Maggie was supposed to kill the fires over an hour ago.
He went outside, scouting the area for the source of the problem. "Shit!" he exclaimed, running to the edge of the fence, where he discovered the source of the smell; two bodies, drenched in gasoline and burning to ashes. He ran for help to get the fires out, but the hope of saving the two victims was futile. They were gone, burned to death by someone on the inside. And he knew exactly who.
Daryl flew into his brother's cell, steaming with anger. He didn't give his brother a chance to defend himself, just landed a clear right hook on his brother's jaw. "What the hell Merle!" he exclaimed. "You had no right to do that! They were innocent people. Fucking. Innocent. People."
"Relax baby brother; I did what needed to be done. You're gon' be grateful for this later, Daryl."
"Innocent people, Merle. They ain't done nothin' to you. And now you're stupid ass is gonna have to leave the prison."
Merle laughed. "And what makes you think that? You ain't gonna tell no one 'bout this, bro."
"Yeah? What makes you think I ain't gunna say nothin?"
"If you do, that girl a yours is gonna be next."
Daryl slammed his brother against the wall then, making sure he was unconscious before he stormed out of the cell.
Beth POV
Beth didn't see Daryl all day. She'd been helping Carol with the children, and Judith had occupied her time for most of the day. Everyone else had been either in shock upon the discovery of the burned bodies, or trying to figure out what had happened.
She started to feel the exhaustion creeping up on her, which drove her decision to take the first watch after dinner. She could tell something was wrong as soon as Daryl joined her up on the rooftop. He was on edge, sitting against the wall and holding his body tense. "Whats wrong?" she asked in a soft voice.
"Nothin'," he replied, brushing her off. "These burned bodies got me on edge is all."
She gave him a questioning look, but decided to believe him. "Okay." That was all she could say, as she didn't want to push it.
"Just...be careful these next couple days, okay? I don't want you gettin' hurt," he told her.
"Don't worry about me," she said, looking at him.
He gave her a look. "I can't help it. You...you mean a lot to me. I don't want you to end up like that."
"It's okay, I'll be fine," she told him.
At that time, Glenn came up to the prison rooftop and took over watch, leaving Beth to go downstairs. "Mind if I sleep in here tonight? Just to make sure you're safe." Daryl asked Beth.
She half-smiled half-laughed at him. "Sure, if you wanna share the bed again. It's a little cramped."
"As long as I know you're safe," he said, breathing a sigh of relief at the reassurance that he could protect her for at least one night.
