~*~Chapter Sixteen: One Last Adventure~*~
Kurtz looked down into the raging water below the falls, shaking his head. "Crazy kids!" he spat. There was no sign of Marty and Todd. They both had just vanished under the falls.
Officer Kurtz radioed the crew in the chopper. "There's nothing to see. They're both dead. Send a search party out here to recover the bodies," Kurtz said.
With those words, he turned on his heel to return to the chopper. He was greatly disappointed. This wasn't how he wished the situation had turned out. He had been eager to play the 'hero.' His hope had been to turn Todd Manning back into authorities. Officer Kurtz wouldn't get his wish.
Marty and Todd emerged within the cave directly behind the waterfall. Marty was sputtering from lack of air. If it hadn't have been for Todd, she may have drowned. Both were soaked as they made it over to the dry patch of earth which was further inside the cave.
Realizing that Marty was cold and shaken, Todd wrapped her in a warm blanket he'd already put inside the cave. Thankfully he had provisions in the cave he had brought earlier in anticipation of their romantic evening. "Are you okay?" Todd questioned.
"Ohhh I am just fine... first I burn our cabin down and get trapped in a fire. Then you throw me into a waterfall, and I nearly drown," Marty stated with a bit of sarcasm.
"All in a day's adventure," Todd joked.
Suddenly, he started to laugh. He was just glad they were alive and together. They had outwitted Officer Kurtz. He was very glad they had Kurtz off their backs.
Marty couldn't help but giggle about it, but more than anything, she was just glad that they were safe now. Todd was still chuckling when he pulled her to him and gave her a kiss.
"We're safe ... and we are going to Canada," Todd said as he started to gather up the bundle of supplies he had left there earlier.
"I'm ready for another adventure!" Marty responded.
The End
