I do not own Danny Phantom.
Ambush and Hilarity
The night was not kind to Danny. He tossed and turned, stressing over Valerie and the Ghost Bomber. It was a few days after the explosion at Vlad's mansion, and she had simply disappeared. Other than seeing her at school, there was no activity from her laptop, no other indications of what her next move was going to be.
And that was the thing that made Danny nearly tear out his hair in frustration.
What is she going to do next? he thought. She's not just going to abandon the Ghost Bomber. It's her ultimate plan. With Vlad's portal currently out of commission ours is all that's left. But would she risk getting caught?
As much as he wished, he didn't have any answers to any of his questions.
With a sigh, he hauled himself out of bed and shuffled downstairs to make himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was three in the morning and it was obvious he wasn't going to get any sleep, so he might as well make himself a snack.
He came to the foot of the stairs when a female voice suddenly whispered in his ear, "I'm really sorry, but trust me. You'll thank me for this later."
Then everything went black.
Valerie grunted, yanking the unconscious Danny down to the lab, wincing as his head bounced off each metal step they went down. I hope he doesn't get a concussion from this.
With a final grunt, she managed to pull him right beside the Fenton's ghost portal. He slouched against the wall. Though she felt guilty for ambushing her friend, she knew there was a greater cause at hand.
She turned her attention to the Ghost Portal. The green and red lights of the computer console intimidated the Red Huntress. The last thing she wanted was to accidently set off the alarms and alert the Fentons to her presence.
Approaching the machine, she hovered her fingers over the small black buttons before closing her eyes and selecting one at whim.
"Welcome, Jack/Maddie Fenton. Please insert password."
Oh, shoot.
Biting her lip, she thought of the one thing Jack Fenton loved more than anything. Fudge. Surely Mrs. Fenton would have allowed Mr. Fenton to choose the password.
At least, she hoped so.
She typed it in and waited nervously.
"Password accepted."
A sigh of relief escaped her mouth. She watched as the ghost portal went active, but the doors did not open. The computer's monotone voice spoke once more.
"Please insert Fenton DNA to fully open portal. Have a nice day."
Valerie grabbed Danny's arm and dragged him over to the portal's DNA scanners. She held a finger up to the print identifier and nearly collapsed when it beeped in approval. The doors slid open, the green vortex a welcome sight.
She hesitated for a moment before gently moving Danny away from the portal. She didn't know how much of a kick the Ghost Bomber would have, so it would be best to get him clear. She had injected him with a tranquilizer, so he should be out cold for another couple hours.
She snagged the Fenton Crammer from one of the lab tables, opened the basement window and shot a green blast at the Ghost Bomber sitting outside. It had been too big to carry through the door and she had remembered Danny saying something about a device used to shrink ghosts down. If it could shrink ghosts, why not ghost weapons?
Danny moaned softly before opening his eyes. He had been given enough drugs to be out cold for a few hours, but Valerie didn't know about his super healing. The drugs had instantly been dissolved and destroyed in his system by the ghost germs.
It took a moment for the haze to clear from his vision, but when it did he was greeted to a very unwelcome sight. He widened his blue eyes when Valerie set up the Ghost Bomber and pointed the missile into the bright green vortex. He realized in horror what she had done and he leapt up, moving to stop her, but it was too late.
Valerie grinned when the Ghost Bomber's timing sequence hit zero and waited eagerly for the launch.
But nothing happened.
Surprised, Valerie stared at the idle weapon. She gave it a slight kick. It simply fell over with a clang.
"It's a dud? The greatest ghost weapon prototype is a dud? Aaaggghhh!"
Danny scrambled back to his previous spot and acted as if he were unconscious before Valerie noticed he had woken up from his drug-induced heavy slumber. It was not easy sitting still, as his shoulders shook uncontrollably with laughter. Valerie did not notice in her rage.
"Okay, that is it! If you want something done right you have to go in there and do it yourself!"
She snarled as she stormed up the stairs and out of Fenton Works, her ultimate plan now in ruins. When Danny was certain she had left, he got up and stared at the prototype. He took an hour to properly get rid of it before returning to the lab. He was about to close the ghost portal when hysterical laughter fully overtook him and he crumpled to the ground.
That's where his parents and sister found him the next morning, rolling on the cement floor, howling with relieved laughter with the portal open. They did not get an explanation, as after Danny had calmed down he raced to his room, eager to call and tell Sam and Tucker about what had just occurred.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, he chanted in his mind as he took the stairs two at a time. He had received a massive stroke of luck when he needed it the most, and the relief he felt was overwhelming. He couldn't stop the giggles from escaping, but he decided he was allowed to have a good laugh over the ghost huntress' misfortune.
Sure, Valerie's threat was no laughing matter. But her mishaps sure were.
