A/N:This chapter will mainly be a bit of a filler. It's a little short, but oh well. I have others to update, so I can't be too long with this story, okay?

Chapter 13 Friendly Dinner

Shinichi Kudo flinched as he walked into Kaito's house. Yep, definitely his cousin's house, he noticed, what with all the magician things hanging around the house, ceilings, and walls. There was confetti hanging from the ceiling, little miniature pranks here and there.

All in all, it was fairly typical of his cousin to make his house look like this. He smiled; this was quite nostalgic. He always had liked spending time with his cousin because his cousin had gotten him to open up to the world instead of spending so much time reading his books and ignoring people. Kaito had taught him how to laugh and how to enjoy life and his existence illuminated Shinichi's own like a lightning bug.

So when that light had been extinguished, Shinichi didn't feel as good as he used to. He shut himself off to people and only let a few people in. Ran was one of the few he truly trusted.

"So, Shinichi-kun, I can't believe you're related to Bakaito! You two are polar opposites in personality!" Aoko said before smiling warmly at Shinichi. She shot a glare at Kaito, who was shaking in fear.

Shinichi knew his cousin was just as afraid of this girl as he was. He'd just have to deal with her for now. "They say opposites attract."

Aoko's mouth dropped open at that point, while Kaito just smirked triumphantly. "Y-You aren't really...gay, are you?"

Kaito rolled his eyes. "Where on earth did you come up with that idea? You are completely insane, bakoko, if you think that the two of us are gay!"

Kaito's mother laughed. "Oh, come now, Kaito, she's just having a bit of fun with you, aren't you, Aoko?" She flashed an amused stare at Aoko, who just chuckled darkly.

"Bakaito, you're not making any jokes right now! Do you have a fever?" She cried as she came close to him and felt his forehead.

Kaito smacked her hand away. "What the heck is wrong with you today, bakoko? I don't always have to make jokes!"

Everyone looked at him as though he were an alien from another dimension.

"Kaito's finally become wise," Shinichi said sarcastically. "How did you come to the realization?"

Kaito smirked. "Meitantei-san, you really flatter me too much. It's only a gift to be humorous, you know. To not appreciate humor is like having no imagination-completely inane."

Shinichi rolled his eyes. "Baarou. There's a time for humor and a time to be serious. Now isn't really the time."

Kaito's eyes filled with fake tears. "You're being meannnnnnn, Shin-chan!"

"Am not." Shinichi said as he rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Seriously, Kaito, you're really, really, annoying today, you know that?"

Kaito shrugged the insult off as if it were nothing. "Meh, who cares? You insult me, I spring back up Shinichi! Nothing can defeat me!"

Kaito's mother tossed a piece of fish on his head and then he screamed and ran around the room. "Except for the most harmless thing in the world, fish. Kaito-kun, I don't understand why you hate Mr. Fishy so much, he certainly doesn't hate you."

Kaito wailed. "Get it off me! Help me, Shinichi!"

"No." Shinichi said coldly.

"You're mean!" Kaito wailed.

"Just sick of your stupidity." Shinichi remarked dryly.

"Can we all just sit down and eat?" Aoko screeched. Everyone in the room went silent at once. She smiled again, as if nothing had happened.

"Let's eat my specialty: a nice helping of salmon!" Kaito's mother announced, while Kaito went green.

Shinichi smirked. "I'll gladly have some. Kaito should try some, too." He added.

Kaito just scowled and sat down in his seat. "I won't have any."

"Do that, Kaito-kun...and you'll make your mom very, very sad." Chikage said.

"You're threatening me?" Kaito moaned. "What kind of mother are you?"

"The kind who doesn't wish to have their cooking insulted. Now eat it, my son," Chikage said lightly, but a dark aura surrounded her and her eyes gleamed. Kaito shivered.

"Y-Y-Yes, I will," Kaito mumbled.

Shinichi laughed as well as he ate his food. He noticed Kaito eat a tiny bit and then spit out the rest into a napkin, probably going to throw it away later, he wondered.

After dinner, Shinichi decided to wander around the house and explore it. This was Kaito's house after all, it wasn't like he would mind if he explored a little bit, would he? This was the same Kaito who loved pranks. Shinichi dodged several little pranks here and there as he walked. Then he came to a hallway. As he wandered through the hallway, his gaze stopped upon a picture of Kaito's dad. He had seen that before.

"Why is that picture here?" He wondered aloud. At that moment, Kaito appeared. His eyes widened upon seeing Shinichi standing over by his temporary hideout for KID. 'No, no, no, don't let him see it!'

"Meitantei-san, I was so fond of that picture that I begged Mom to bring it here!" He lied.

"It's rather out-of-place, there are no other pictures in the hallway..." Shinichi mumbled as a thoughtful look crossed his face. "Hey, Kaito, I've been wondering..."

Kaito sweat-dropped. This question didn't sound too bad. "What have you been wondering about, meitantei-san?"

Shinichi's look turned even more thoughtful, and then it became wary. He moved closer to Kaito, still studying him intently. "Tell me, Kaito...what would you say if I told you that I thought you were Kaitou Kid?"

Kaito blinked for a few moments and couldn't speak. His throat was dry.

"Tell me, Kaito. Are you Kaitou Kid or aren't you? I want some answers now." Shinichi said sharply, and it was clear that he wasn't going to let Kaito escape without an answer.
