A/N:Well, I've sprained my arm. So it seems like I need to type with one arm. This isn't too bad. I just won't be typing for as long. I'll try to type with both of them, depending on how my pain is. I fell on ice yesterday and sprained it. It hurt for a while, but now it's numb. At least it's not broken. I'll still update. :D That also happens to be the same place Kaito gets shot. Enjoy the chapter~
Chapter 21 Recovery
"KAITO!" Shinichi cried, looking around frantically for any sign of the wounded thief. He didn't see him anywhere. Panic filled his being. Where the hell was his cousin? Had his cousin really gone down so easily? For a few moments, he had been unable to believe that Kaito could have gone down from a gunshot wound. But he had seen him fall. He had seen the crimson staining his robes, he had seen it no matter how many times he tried to deny it.
'First things first, finding Kaito is my top priority,' He thought as he darted around the officers that were crowding around the fallen Kaito Kid.
"All right, let's take Kaitou Kid into custody!" Ginzo Nakamori cried. "With this injury, he will be perfect for us to capture."
Many of the officers looked at him with disgusted eyes. "Um, sir, can't we just take him to the hospital and get him treated first!"
"You idiot, he's a criminal! He doesn't need to go to the hospital, he needs to go to jail first, and then to the hospital." He added.
'I can't let him get captured, I can't!' Shinichi thought as he pushed his way past the officers and came over to the fallen corpse of Kaitou Kid. He picked it up...wait, how could he pick up a fallen corpse so easily?
His eyes widened as he realized that the "corpse" was actually a dummy, and the red was nothing more than spray paint. The dummy deflated in his arms.
A vein pulsed on Nakamori's head. "WE'VE BEEN HAD, MEN! HE'S STILL HERE! FIND AND CAPTURE HIM!"
Shinichi smiled to himself, knowing full well that his cousin was still alive and kicking. He wouldn't go down so easily.
Meanwhile, up in an air vent, Kaito was struggling to climb up. Trying to climb with only one arm was hard enough as it was. 'Damn,' He thought, 'I really got owned by those guys, didn't I? At least I'm not in jail...yet. Hurry up and save me, Shinichi...or else I could be a goner...'
He staggered out of it and into a secret room he had gotten. He was going to change out of his clothing, but his vision was fading fast...
Footsteps were approaching.
"Kaito, are you okay?"
Kaito smiled faintly as he coughed up blood. "Do I look okay, meitantei-san?"
Shinichi was there, looking at him with worried eyes. The detective frowned as he tried to lift Kaito. "You know...this would be easier if you were...smaller."
Kaito chuckled. "That's an impossible notion, meitantei-san." He smirked faintly as his vision went black.
"Kaito!" Shinichi cried. He frowned grimly at the blood that stained his clothes. "Gotta get...Kaito out of here...but how? The officers will see us...but I'm sure Saguru-san wouldn't let me go if he saw this."
He saw another KID standing near them.
"Who are you?" Shinichi called out. "You need to help Kaito, he's been shot."
The KID took off his hat to show an old man. "Young master Kaito! I thought something bad would happen so I came here myself. I didn't think he would be shot. Who are you?" He asked.
"I'm his cousin, Shinichi..." Shinichi said slowly.
"Are you here to capture Young Master Kaito?" The old man said.
"Relax, ojiisan, I'm not here to do anything like that." Shinichi said.
"Oh...you have changed. Kaito told me you would just arrest criminals indiscriminately. Now that I see you up close, yes, you definitely look like Yusaku-sama."
Shinichi smirked wryly. "I've been told that a lot. Now, shall we go treat him? I don't think a public hospital will be safe for him."
"Sure," The old man said, "I am Konosuke Jii, Young Master Shinichi. I remember you from when you were little. I don't think you remember me, but I was always with Toiichi-sama."
"You were?" Shinichi asked. The man nodded, as the three of them escaped out of the building into a small car that was waiting.
"I always warned Young Master Kaito about danger, but he always dives into it head-on..." Jii said slowly.
"That he does," Shinichi said, "Tell me, what happened to my uncle? Was he really murdered?"
Jii looked at him as he drove and said, "Yes...he was..."
"How?" Shinichi asked.
Jii sighed. "Young Master Kaito was never to know he was KID until he was old enough, but as you can tell, Kaito already found out a year ago. Did you know-"
"Yes, I knew years ago. I think he knew that, too." Shinichi said.
"Yes, well, a long time ago, an organization asked Toiichi-sama to find them a specific jewel. This jewel could bring about immortality if it shed tears. Toiichi-sama was a good man, even though he was a thief. He could never hurt anyone. So he refused, and shortly afterwards...in that accident, it was manipulated so that Toiichi-sama would die. So, shortly afterwards, I told Chikage-sama the truth and told her that she should move away just in case they would track her down with her son. That is why Kaito-bocchama left you so early on. They needed to protect themselves. I also suspect that your parents also thought they may have been in danger, too."
"My father was rivals with his own brother, huh?" Shinichi said softly. "To think, I knew nothing of it..."
"Yusaku-sama also did not want to hurt you. I think, or rather, Young Master Kaito, thinks they left you here because they were also afraid of this organization. Kaito-bocchama has been trying to bring this organization out in the open where they can be brought to justice for their crimes. Aren't you worried that you, too, may become a target?"
Shinichi shook his head. "I'm in too deep to turn back now."
Jii had lent him a bandage he had wrapped around Kaito's shoulder in order to staunch the bleeding somewhat. His cousin was still unconscious, but breathing normally.
"At least he's alive..." Shinichi muttered.
