CHAPTER-2
"Can you carry the trunk, or do you need help Noah?" asked the headmistress as I waved at Professor McGonagall who gave a nod back with a twitch of her lips.
"I can carry it Headmistress. Thank you for allowing Lily to stay," I said as I smiled at her.
"You are welcome child. Now go. Kate and Jonathan are waiting for you."
I lifted the trunk and the basket where Lily had just woken up and was sitting, waving her tail. After reaching my room which was empty, I placed my trunk at the foot of my bed and released Lily from her basket. She started running around the room sniffing every corner. I decided to not wear the new clothes till I reached Hogwarts. No need to make other kids jealous of me. So I quickly put away all the non-magical items except the musical notes in third compartment for now. I then unpacked my wand box and hoister box. After strapping the hoister onto my right hand, I inserted the wand into it. I flicked my wrist and the wand smoothly slid into my hand. With a grin I inserted the wand back into the hoister. Soon all the robes and magical items except the books joined the third compartment.
As I closed the lid of the trunk, the door to our room opened and in stepped Kate and Jon. Lily stopped playing with a red ball that she found and stood up. She cocked her head to the side as if to say who are you?
"Hey Noah, who is this little champ?" asked Jon as Kate cooed at how cute Lily was.
"Lily these are my friends Jon and Kate. No biting understand?" I said as I picked up Lily and sat on my bed. "Hello you two, meet Lily my new pet".
They knelt down before Lily and said," Hello Lily" as they gently ran their hands in her small fur. Lily barked as she licked their hands. They all sat on the floor so Lily could play with them.
"So where did you go today?" asked Jon as he leaned his back to his bed.
"A lady named Professor McGonagall came and asked if I wanted to join their school. My mum and dad had studied there and they have joined me there the day I was born." I said smoothly, with the rationalization that this wasn't a lie.
"Oh. What's this schools name? and where is it?" Kate asked as she stroked Lily.
"Hogwarts. It's in Scotland"
"Where did you go with her today?" asked Jon.
"I went to buy my text books, uniform, trunk and a pet."
"What about money then?" asked Jon curiously.
"Professor McGonagall gave me from the school funds"
"Why pet? Is it compulsory?" asked Jon.
"No. But in that school everyone are allowed pets and the Professor asked me if I wanted to buy one".
"Oh" The day passed with Jon and Kate asking questions about the new school and playing with Lily.
August 1st , 11:30pm
The days had passed by with me thinking about how to talk to Harry and reading all my books. Whenever I was alone I practiced the wand movements using a stick which I found in the garden or trying to clear my mind. It was very difficult as whenever I try I clear it, the more I recall the memories, the more I recall I feel like I am the real Noah and I didn't come from the future. In fact the future I have lived in for two and a half decades feels like it's a dream.
It's like before the injury I was a normal ten year old but then after the injury I am the same person but I have a bunch of memories where I am an adult.
I even tried to see what difference the ten year old and the twenty five year old had. They were almost the exact same people personality wise. Whenever I think of Harry, dad or mum I have same feelings I had since I was a child (Unconditional love, devotion, longing and overwhelming sadness).
I didn't feel this way immediately after the injury or till the trip to Diagon Alley. The day after the trip it's like the events just caught up with me. Can a single injury cause this or did I finally go senile?
I was interrupted from my musing by the taping at the window. I looked up to see Hedwig standing on the window sill. I ginned and opened the window, letting her in. Thankfully Jon was a very heavy sleeper and even if I started singing loudly he wouldn't wake up.
"Hello beautiful, how are you?" I asked gently as she hopped onto my shoulder and I carried her to the desk. She landed on it and turned to me as I sat on the chair.
"Hoot," Hedwig leaned down and gently nipped my nose as if to say I am fine. How are you?
"I am fine. So did Harry take you?" I asked as I stroked her breast. Hedwig bobbled her head and hooted happily.
"Good. I bought a puppy. Her name is Lily after my mother. Want to see?" I asked. She hooted as if to say yes. I picked up Lily's basket gently so as not to jolt her and set her on the desk. I opened the lid and showed the sleeping pup. Hedwig hooted gently and rubbed her head against Lily's.
"Do you like her?"
Hedwig bobbed her head. I closed the lid and set her in her place so she could sleep peacefully.
"Do you want to drink water?" Hedwig shook her head negatively and I continued to stroke her.
"How is Harry? Is he happy?" I asked. Hedwig hooted in conformation.
"I wrote him a letter. Will you take it to him?" I retrieved the letter from my pocket and showed it to her. It had taken me several tries to right but I managed it. Hedwig bobbled her head and stuck out her right leg. I tied the letter using a string.
"Can you do me another help?" Hedwig cocked head to the side as if to ask what it was.
"If Harry sends a reply, please make sure that I am alone before delivering it and don't let anyone from here see you" Hedwig bobbled her head to say that she understood.
"Be safe girl. I hope I will see you in a day or two. Bug Harry till he writes a reply," I said as I stopped stroking her. Hedwig nodded her head seriously and nipped my ear affectionately before she soared out of the window.
Harry's POV
I signed as I waited for Hedwig to come back. I closed my transfiguration book and leaned back into the pillow.
Yesterday had been fun. It was beyond fun. It was the best birthday I have ever had. I learned that I am a wizard and not a freak as my relatives call me. And there was a whole world hidden out there unseen to many. Diagon Alley was amazing and the text books were interesting to say the least. Dudley was now so scared of me he wouldn't stay in the same room, while Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon didn't shut me in my cupboard, force me to do anything, or shout at me — in fact, they didn't speak to me at all. Half terrified, half furious, they acted as though any chair with me in it was empty. This was an improvement in many ways.
The reason for my present depression is my owl Hedwig. I have named her that after a great witch I had read about in History of Magic. She had kept me company from yesterday night to today evening flying in and out of the open window. But she had left three hours ago and did not return yet. Did she fly away? Did she go to Hagrid? Did she left me? These were the thoughts running through my mind for what seemed like forever which was only half an hour before Hedwig swooped in from the window and landed in front of me. She then stuck her foot out where a letter was tied to it with a string. Who would write a letter to me? Confused I opened the envelope and took out a letter.
Dear Harry,
You may not remember me but I am your twin Noah Harry Potter. I am seven minutes older than you. This is the truth. If you want you can read the last pages of History of Magic. I am mentioned there. I am writing you this now because I remember you from when we were small. I wasn't able to contact you till now because I dint know where you were. In fact I don't know where you are now. I saw you buying your owl so when you were not looking I asked her to find me. She is a very intelligent creature. She met me at my current place which is St. Peter's Orphanage. It is in London.
I stopped reading. What the? I have a brother? I have family and he remembers me. I was feeling as if I have been hit with a ton of bricks. A giddy feeling was swelling inside me, warmth spreading from within my chest. Yet, mixed in with this newfound hope and joy is confusion, shock, and anger. Hagrid said the headmaster left me here. Why didn't he bring my twin here? Not that I would want my brother to meet our, oh so loving Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. It would have been nice to know that I have family who would love me.
I reread the paragraph again. He is in an Orphanage? Why did he go there? I quickly grabbed my history book and started reading the last few pages. And sure enough he was mentioned. It just said that he disappeared and they searched for a few months before presuming him dead. Well he is not. I then continued reading the letter.
I did not disappear or anything as the book says. I was purposefully left there by an old man. You might remember him from your Hogwarts letter. Albus Dumbledore (Headmaster yada yada yada). Yes, he is the one who separated us. I don't know why and I intend to find out.
A few weeks ago I was visited by Professor McGonagall who told me that I disappeared when they went to retrieve us both after the attack. But I did not. I was left at the orphanage by 'Dumb old door' with a letter saying that my parents were murdered and there was no one to take care of me. There was nothing about you.
I snorted at the nickname given to the headmaster.
She then introduced me to magic and helped me in my school shopping. I want to get to know you again. When we were small we were very close. I remember crying for you, mum and dad for days on end. I hope you still remember me.
How are you brother? Where are you living now? With whom are you living? How are they treating you? Are you happy there? Please reply soon. I have sent my photo. Send me yours.
Belated Happy eleventh birthday. Your gift is with me. I will give it personally to you on September 1st.
Your Twin,
Noah.
I smiled softly at the last paragraphs. For the first time I could remember, I was feeling wanted. I put the letter down and picked up the envelope. I slid my hand inside. Sure enough, there was a photo. I pulled it out to see a red haired boy with my eyes. His hair was messy just like mine and he looked different from me except for the nose and eyes. He looked healthy and happy but his eyes showed deep longing and sadness. He was wearing faded jeans and a green shirt which matched our eyes.
I set it down on my desk and started writing a reply. After finishing it, I set it aside for when Hedwig will wake up and deliver it. I soon fell asleep dreaming about two small toddlers playing with each other.
Noah's POV
After Hedwig left I got back to my book. The next morning passed as usual with me reading one of my books occasionally glancing at the open window for Hedwig. Jon and Kate were in the library helping the younger children with their summer homework. Lily was playing on the floor with a red ball occasionally running towards me for a scratch. I had decided that for now I will just write letters to Harry and plan on what to do next.
A trip to Gringotts might help in finding the will according to the book on Ancient and Nobel Houses. I could easily summon the night bus with the wand. And I could send an Anonymous letter to DMLE using one of the post owls in the post office. I could ask Hedwig but she will be easily recognized if someone snooped around a bit and Harry can get into trouble as he is her owner.
The only problem is I need to find a way to sneak out without drawing attention from anyone. Thankfully the Orphanage was a large building and had many hiding places. With that in mind I got back to my book.
I was interrupted from my reading when Hedwig flew in and landed in front of me. Lily stopped playing with the ball and stared curiously at Hedwig. After I took the letter Hedwig hopped onto the floor and stood in front of Lily. Hedwig gave a soft hoot in greeting. Lily barked in return and started running around her and sniffing her. I chucked at them and tore open the envelope and eagerly started reading the letter.
Dear Noah,
I am fine. How are you? This is a huge surprise. I didn't know that I have a brother till now let alone a twin. No one told me about you, not even Hagrid who introduced me to magic and helped me with my shopping. He is the keeper of keys and grounds at Hogwarts. I read the History of magic book as you said and they did mention you. I think I believe you.
Happy belated birthday to you too. I don't have any gift for you yet but I am sure I will come up with one in a few days. I am living with our Uncle Vernon Dursley, Aunt Petunia and Cousin Dudley. Aunt Petunia is our mum's elder sister by two years. We live at No. 4 Private Dive, Little Winging, Surrey. It is two hour's drive from London. They don't treat me well. I had rather be anywhere but here. Sorry but I don't have any pictures of my own.
How is it like at the orphanage? Do you have any friends? What are your friend's names? What are they like? I myself don't have any as Dudley like to beat up anyone who tried to be my friends.
How can you remember me? I mean you were very small. I am sorry but I don't remember you, mum or dad. What do they look like? Hagrid said that I look just like dad with mum's eyes.
Did you do accidental magic when you were small? I had a , Aunt Petunia, tired of me coming back from the barbers looking as though I hadn't been at all, had taken a pair of kitchen scissors and cut my hair so short I was almost bald except for my bangs, which she left "to hide that horrible scar." Dudley had laughed himself silly at how I looked, I spent the whole night imagining school the next day, where I was already laughed at for my baggy clothes (Dudley's hand me downs) and taped glasses. Dudley is so fat that he looks like a baby whale. Aunt Petunia thinks that he looks like a baby angel. I personally think that he looks like a pig in a wig. He is a complete idiot, can't even count from one to forty. Because of him I have to get low grades and do his homework. Anyway the next morning, I got up to find my hair exactly as it had been before Aunt Petunia had shaved it off. I was punished for a week for this, even though I tried to explain that I couldn't explain how it had grown back so quickly. Another time, Aunt Petunia had been trying to force me into a revolting old sweater of Dudley's (brown with orange puff balls). The harder she tried to pull it over my head, the smaller it seemed to become, until finally it might have fitted a hand puppet, but certainly wouldn't fit me. Aunt Petunia had decided it must have shrunk in the wash and, to my great relief, I wasn't punished.
On the other hand, I'd gotten into terrible trouble for being found on the roof of the school kitchens. Dudley's gang had been chasing me (they like to play Harry hunting where they would chase me around the school and beat me up) when, as much to my surprise as anyone else's, there I was sitting on the chimney. The Dursleys' had received a very angry letter from my headmistress telling them I had been climbing school buildings. I thought that the wind must have caught me in mid-jump. But I know now that it is accidental magic. On Dudley's birthday we went to zoo. In the reptile house I talked to a boa constructor and set her loose by vanishing the glass of her tank.
I smirked at all the incidents. As I tried to recall if I had any accidental magic, I came up empty for except the ones I did when I was little before the attack. It was a bit worrisome and I made a mental note to research about it later.
Did you buy any pet? What's his/her name? My owls name is Hedwig.
Your Twin,
Harry.
I smiled as I put the letter down and started writing a reply.
Dear Harry,
I am fine. Oh, It's alright if you don't remember me. You were just a baby. I myself remember our childhood only because I have a photographic memory.
Why did Hagrid come to introduce you to magic? I am not discriminating him or anything, but he is just a worker at Hogwarts. He couldn't have explained the wizarding world and about the school very well. Professor McGonagall said that muggleborn students and muggle raised students are introduced to magic by a Professor. Did you get any manuals explaining how the wizarding world works and their customs?
Thanks for believing me. If you don't like living there then we will make sure that you don't. I am actually thinking of going to Gringotts tomorrow to see if they have our parents' will. If you can come then you are welcome to join me. But we should be very careful so that we don't draw attention to ourselves and be bombarded with your Harry Potter fan club (Just kidding buddy). Just wear a ball cap to hide your scar and hair. As for transport go to an empty street and stick out your wand in front of you. A purple night bus will appear. It runs by magic. It's pretty fast for travelling. Say them to take you to Leaky Cauldron. The fee might be less than a galleon better bring your money bag. Be there by 8:00 am. I will be waiting for you at Flourish and Blots book store. I hope you will come because we might find a way to avoid for you to go back to those horrible people.
As for the orphanage, It's good. Yeah I have best friends they are Jonathan Taylor and Katie Finns. They are good I guess. Jon is fun to hang out with. He has a twisted sense of humor. Always makes sarcastic comments on those he doesn't like. As for Katie, She is the bubbliest person you will ever meet. She is kind and caring. And she is the one who comes up with the most hilarious pranks. We love playing pranks on others and reading a lot.
Well I look exactly like mum. You can say I am a male copy of her. She has medium length long hair, some freckles and looked more girly. As for dad he has hazel eyes, messy black hair, round glasses and was quite handsome. Before the attack I did accidental magic but for some unknown reason I didn't do any magic after that attack. I don't know why but I got my Hogwarts letter right?
Yeah I bought a pet. She is a white puppy dog. I named her Lily after our mother. Hope to see you tomorrow.
Your Twin,
Noah.
I put down my pen and inserted the letter into an envelope and turned to the duo playing on the floor.
"Hey Hedwig, come here girl," I beckoned her as I showed the envelope. Hedwig stopped playing and flew to my desk.
"You have a very beautiful name. Can you give this to Harry?" I asked as I stroked her head. Hedwig puffed up proudly and hooted as she stuck out her leg. I chuckled at her antics and tied the letter.
"See you soon love," I said and watched as Hedwig flew out the window and into the clouds.
"Well it's just you and me now darling," I whispered as I picked up Lily and walked back to my book to continue reading as I stroked Lily who lazily lay in my lap.
Harry grinned when he looked up from his book and saw Hedwig swoop in with a letter. He quickly gave her some water and treats before untying her burden. As he read the letter he felt excitement and happiness build up at the prospect of meeting his brother tomorrow and the possibility that he might never return to this place.
