Chapter 5:- THE SORTING HAT

The door was opened by Professor McGonagall , and we then were led to an empty classroom and were given a brief description about the houses and rules. They were then lead into the great hall after a brief meeting with the ghosts. The great hall looked enchanting, words would not be able to describe the excellent spell work on the ceiling, which displayed a resplendent night sky.

We were led to the middle of the great hall between the staff table and four other tables. Aunt Minerva placed a stool in front of them and put a patched, filthy, pointed wizard's hat.

"Aunt Petunia wouldn't have even let it near the house" whispered Harry which earned a snort from Noah.

The hat soon started singing and after it finished there was a huge round of applause. It bowed to each of the four tables and then became quite still again.

"So we've just got to try on the hat!" Ron whispered to them. "I'll kill Fred, he was going on about wrestling a troll."

Professor McGonagall now stepped forward holding a long roll of parchment.

"When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted," she said. "Abbott, Hannah!"

A pink-faced girl with blonde pigtails stumbled out of line, put on the hat, which fell right down over her eyes, and sat down. A moment paused, before-

"HUFFLEPUFF!" shouted the hat.

The table on the right cheered and clapped as Hannah went to sit down at the Hufflepuff table. They saw the ghost of the Fat Friar waving merrily at her.

"Bones, Susan!"

"HUFFLEPUFF!" shouted the hat again, and Susan scuttled off to sit next to Hannah. She looked at them and immediately waved at them which they returned happily. Noah tuned out the sorting as he already knew where everyone else went.

After what seemed like forever "Potter, Harry!"

As Harry stepped forward, whispers suddenly broke out like little hissing fires all over the hall.

"Potter, did she say?"

"The Harry Potter?"

The hat seemed to ponder for a few minutes and then GRYFFINDOR!"

Harry shakily walked towards the Gryffindor table not even noticing that he was getting the loudest cheer yet. Percy the Prefect got up and shook his hand vigorously, while the Weasley twins yelled, "We got Potter! We got Potter!" Harry sat down opposite the ghost in the ruff he'd seen earlier. He then turned to Noah and gave him a thump's up.

"Potter, Noah"

Whispers again broke out through the hall…

"Noah Potter?"

"where was he till now?"

"But he is dead, right?"

He started walking towards the stool, back straight, shoulders back. Sitting on the stool, there was a whispering in his mind as the hat was placed on his head.

"Ah, another Potter, I see? Well, there's no doubt that you're going to be similar – but well well well…. What do I see here a Magical Seer? Interesting. You don't mind if I see the vision of yours, do you?

Huh? Not at all… go ahead but please keep it private.

Ah… nothing to worry young one, I do not divulge anyone's secrets to anyone else. Hmm… Interesting…Oh my…!

Mr. Hat can I ask you a question?

Certainly….

What type of legilimency are you using?

Oh that..? Passive legilimency… Oh my these are funny.. what are they writing about me?" The hat suddenly burst out laughing. Noah grinned at the fanfic he got a glance of.

"Well Mr. Potter you have a very tough task ahead. A few words of advice if I may… Stick to the timeline as much as you can, don't trust the headmaster… he has a good heart no doubt in that, but he will try to manipulate you and your brother as much as he can to defeat Tom… learn as much as you can… it will save you both in the future…If you want any advice don't hesitate to come to me or ask a house elf to retrieve me… I will help you as much as I can as I am enchanted by the founders I have all their knowledge…. And remember that Salazar Slytherin would not have helped in building hogwarts if he had prejudice against muggleborns…so don't judge them by the lies that have been created through history… Some of them can help you in this war….oh let's get back to sorting.. the others are getting impatient… Hm.. plenty of courage and an excellent mind but the Ravenclaw will not suit you…no…. you are very cunning and ambitious… yes but you will not be able to reach your goal there…. Hufflepuff will suit you but you will be able to achieve what you want if you are in GRYFFINDOR! Oh and by the way Mr. Potter my name is Derek" The Hat shouted the name, and Noah felt a grin on his face as the hat was taken off his head.

The whole of Gryffindor table were standing up, applauding him and he felt many people pat his back as they did to Harry. Over the noise he could hear the twins yelling. "We got Potter's! We got Potter's!"

As he reached Harry, they shared a Hi Five and he sat beside him. And now there were only three people left to be sorted. "Thomas, Dean,"a Black boy even taller than Ron, joined them at the Gryffindor table.

"Turpin, Lisa," became a Ravenclaw and then it was Ron's turn. He was pale green by now. A second later the hat had shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"

Harry and Noah clapped loudly with the rest as Ron collapsed into the chair next to Noah.

"Well done, Ron, excellent," said Percy Weasley Pompously as "Zabini, Blaise," was made a Slytherin. Professor McGonagall rolled up her scroll and took the Sorting Hat away.

"So? Why didn't you tell me that you are the Potters?" asked Ron accusingly.

"We wanted to have some peace before everyone tries to mob us" said Harry as Dumbledore got to his feet. After he finished his speech the food appeared. They piled their plates with a bit of everything except the peppermints and began to eat. It was all delicious.

After the feast they were led to their common rooms. Percy directed the girls through one door to their dormitory and the boys through another. Their trunks had already been brought up. Too tired to talk much, they pulled on their pajamas and fell into bed.
