Hullo.
Goodbye.
Violet laughed as her family pulled up to Wayne Manor. It was a dark place, the only light came from the sun, but it didn't seem to help whatsoever. Three year old Violet seemed to.
She jumped out of the van and ran to Bruce and Alfred, who were standing outside. Bruce gave her one of his rare smiles, as her family came up from behind.
Elena looked at Alfred. "He's smiling," she says, looking at Bruce. "I thought bats couldn't smile."
Alfred grinned at her. "Come, children," he said to the sisters. "Master Dick is waiting for you." The girls looked at each other, and ran into the huge building, leaving the adults behind.
They found Dick in the vast living room, watching TV. "Hey, guys," he said. "How's it goin?"
Violet cocked her head. "Why aren't you the birdy?" Dick laughed. "I can't always be Robin," he explained. "Sometimes even boy wonders have to have days off."
"What about bats?" asked Elena.
He frowned. "Bruce thinks he can't have a day off," Dick replied. He got off the couch and put a straight face on. "I must protect Gotham," he grunted, imitating Batman. "Without me they won't survive." The girls giggled.
"I'll attack anyone who gets in my way!" with that, he started to tickle little Violet. She put a straight face on, for it was a game they played to pass the time. Who could be tickled without laughing for the longest?
She closed her eyes and counted to five, since those were the only numbers she actually knew of.
1…
2…
3…
4…
5…
And then over again.
Finally she could hold it no longer. First Violet started to smile, then giggle, and soon she was ROFL. Rolling on the floor laughing. Literally.
Soon the trio were all ROFL. Dick clutched his stomach, unable to breath, and then lurched upright as his adoptive father came in.
"Um…" he stumbled, shuffling his feet. "We were just…"
Bruce smiled at Dick. "As long as you're having fun," he said, ruffled his son's hair, and kept walking on with the adults.
Elena smiled. She had just witnessed a daddybats moment.
Violet closed her purple eyes to ease her headache. Her temple throbbed.
What was I thinking about?
She shook her head and looked across the table at Clark. She tried to remember… oh yes. A name repeated over and over inside her head.
Dick.
Dick.
Dick.
Violet frowned. What was his name again? She couldn't forget. Not now.
Images popped into her head. A smiling boy, with twinkling blue eyes. He couldn't be older than eleven. The same young boy, tears streaming down his face as he looked down at something. A dark-haired man consoling him.
And herself, laughing along with the boy as they made up weird songs. Violet gripped her head, begging to see more. But the images had disappeared.
Clark looked at her oddly. "You okay?" She nodded, squinting at him. His voice seemed to lose it's way into the air. He sounded like he was repeating himself, over and over and over again.
Heat met it's way into her eyes. She tried to cover them with her hands. Clark got up sharply, knocking over the wooden chair.
"Violet! You have to control it!" he shouted, guiding her outside. But she couldn't. The blazing red light finally found it's way out of her eyes, destroying a patch of flowers. Poor Mrs. Kent. Violet screamed, still trying to somehow cover her eyes with her hands.
Then her ears started ringing. She heard noises, all around the farm and from Gotham. Honking cars, banging of guns, playful shrieks of children as they played tag with each other. The rush of the traffic. Rustling papers. She shouted something not so nice to Clark, but she could not see his reaction.
Violet could only hear his voice as he consoled her. "Focus… hearing… control… on me…"
She tried to not but she could not. She focused on his voice, drawing her back to the Kent's farm. Her eyes relaxed and the heat stopped burning. The noises outside ceased to existence.
Violet looked up at Clark, who was smiling. How could he be smiling? She had always dreamed of being a hero of Gotham or Metropolis… you name it. Any superpower, or even a utility belt like Batman's, she would take it.
Or that is what she thought.
She sobbed, putting her head in her hands. She felt Clark's hand on her shoulder.
"Violet…" he started. "Look, I've only known you for an hour, but you seem okay. I mean, you'd done pretty good for your first time."
That was the best thing that anyone had said to her all day. She smiled through her tears, and took his hand.
Sorry I make chapters so short, that's just how I am. I'm also sorry that I haven't been updating much.
