"Majesty!" Morogth didn't look up as the Dark Elf entered his work shop. He was busy preparing the Silmaril for his wedding. Feywen was finally strong enough to endure the ritual that would strip her mortal blood from her and make her a full Elf. He looked up as he eased the Silmaril from his crown.
"What is it?" Morgoth placed the jewel on the table and looked at his subordinate. "Speak."
"Lithwen is dead."
"Pardon?"
"Lithwen is dead. She was killed on the practice fields this morning."
"By who?"
"Lady Celebrant. Lithwen challenged her after Lithwen tried to embarrass her and Lady Celebrant called the traitor a coward. They fought and Lady Celebrant won. She is asleep now."
"Ether, is she injured?"
"No, Majesty. She is only exhausted. She is still healing and gaining her strength."
"Was she using her magic?"
"She was. She practiced with it all morning. Then, she seemed to become sad and was about to leave. That's when Lithwen attempted to send her face first into the mud. The servant and I caught Lady Celebrant and a few moments after that, they began fighting. There was nothing we could do to stop them. The servant and I chose not to interfere and the rest would not in case Lady Celebrant used her fire magic."
"That is good. Feywen is a warrior. She needs to be able to fight. I understand that she has been sparring with you."
"Yes, Majesty."
"And how is she coming along?"
"She is strong. And getting stronger every day." Ether hesitated a moment. "Majesty, the sun is leaving again. What does that mean?"
"It means that she is slowly falling into darkness again. Soon, she will have fallen completely." Morgoth focused his might on the jewel and it began to melt. "Make sure that she is comfortable. We don't need her going back to the one she really loves." Ether bowed and left in clear dismissal. Morgoth thought about it and then formed a flame and stretched it until it resembled a blooming blossom. Then he twisted the would-be petals around each other in a form that pleased him and smiled. "I'll have to find that love and kill him. Perhaps he is still in Rivendell. But we cannot get into Rivendell because of her shields. Perhaps I can trick her mind into thinking that I have." He grinned and looked at the twisted jewel and reached for the black circlet that was next to him and attached the jewel to it. "Perfect. Now to go through the ritual."
He looked at the weapons on above the mantle. Only Eru knew how much he missed her. He had noticed that the mood of the Elves were somber. He had noticed it over the past forty years, but more now. Aragorn, having been told his real name ten years ago, decided to live with his people. The man was now forty-five years old, but he still looked young. All the Elves knew that Aragorn had the blood of his ancestor and namesake, King Elessar, Brother of Lady Celebrant. He had the blood of the Númenor within him. He would live well beyond the years of his peers and his recent ancestors. He sighed and closed his eyes. Looking at the weapons only made him feel guilty. He was the one that should be trying to save her, not Legolas and his father. Though, word had reached him that their mission had failed. There was no other way into Mordor short of storming the Black Gates.
"Glorfindel,"
"Yes, Carolani?" He opened his eyes and saw said she-Elf in his doorway.
"Are you okay? You haven't shown yourself much in the past few years. I was getting worried, for Fey's sake."
"As you can see, I am fine."
"Are you sure? You don't look fine. You've hidden yourself away. I know that you barely eat. And I can tell that you are barely sleeping. You are not fine. You stay in this house all by yourself with no one to talk to. You won't even talk to Elrohir and Elladan anymore." Glorfindel looked away and struggled not to place his eyes on Feywen's weapons.
I am fine, Carolani. I shouldn't have to tell you more than once. Am I clear?"
"Crystal." She answered bitterly and turned on her heel. Glorfindel closed his eyes again. He didn't want to hear anything from her. Carolani glared at the ground as she walked and walked right into Gandalf. "Sorry," she mumbled.
"How is he?"
"Grumpy. He isn't taking care of himself. I'm worried about him."
"I know. But Feywen is the only one who can get through to him right now."
"We have to get him out of this spiral that he is going down. How can we do that?" At that moment, the ground shook violently beneath them. Gandalf and Carolani looked at each other, worry and fear in their eyes. "Please tell me that wasn't what I think it was."
"I'm not sure what it was, Carolani. I cannot be sure of anything right now. Maybe this will be what gets him out of his own mind and back to reality.
She looked at the books around her. She needed to find out how to destroy the Silmarilli. She needed to find the answers she needs and then she would form a plan. She knew that Morgoth kept his crown with him at all times. He had made it very clear that his door was always open to her. She shuddered at the thought. He wanted her to be willing. But she refused and she would always refuse. He would have to force her to sleep with him to get her to marry him. She was determined to get back to the one she truly loved. She closed her eyes and saw his face and smiled. She took a deep breath and began looking at the books again. Morgoth had no idea that she was looking for the way to kill him. She couldn't let him know. If he figured out that she was trying to figure out how to kill him, she would be chained and never allowed any freedom ever again and that would be the end of everything. She would never get another chance to save Middle Earth.
"Where do I look?"
"Just let the spirits of your ancestors guide you." Vilya whispered. She wasn't sure what exactly Feywen was looking for and Alu was standing guard at the door. Feywen was in a section of the library she was forbidden from going. But the answers she needed couldn't be found in the places she was allowed to go. She closed her eyes and ran her fingers over the spines of the books.
"Help me, Grandfather. I don't know where to look." She walked along the aisles of books, waiting for some feeling telling her that she had found the book she was looking for. Soon, she was just walking, not even paying attention to where she was going. When she felt she had gone too far, she turned around and went back. Vilya stayed with her through all of it, keeping an eye out for any Elves that might stop her. They were soon back in the section Feywen was allowed to be in and Alu joined them. After another five minutes, Feywen stopped and opened her eyes. She was confused. The book her hand was on was one that she had already read and she had seen no mention of the gems in it. She shrugged and took it out anyway. As she dusted off the cover, she realized that she had not read it yet. It was in an older form of Elvish that she had difficulty understanding and so she had skipped over a lot of it. She took it to the couch she had chosen and opened it. She kept flipping through the pages until she found the title of the one she wanted. She skimmed through the pages under that heading, losing hope again. Then she saw what she was looking for. "And he gathered the family of Celebrant to him and asked them for their help in making the gems. Four brothers took up the task, each controlling an element. Fëanor directed the brothers and so created the jewels. Of the four brothers, only Celebrant himself survived and forever despised Fëanor for the creation of the jewels had destroyed his brothers." Feywen looked at the page and reread it several time to be sure. She now understood why her grandfather had taken it upon himself to fight Morgoth. He felt responsible. Had he not helped Fëanor create the Silmarilli, he would never have lost his brothers and Morgoth never would have stolen them. And only he had had the power to destroy the jewels. And now she was the only one as well. No one else could do it.
She closed the book with a snap and stood. She needed to get to her room and plan how she would get to Morgoth's crown. "He says his door is open to me. But he thinks that I will be going to his bed. I will have to get to his crown while he is occupied." She stopped at the door as several guards, including Ether, were standing outside. He stepped forward.
"Lady Celebrant, King Morgoth wishes to see you. Follow me."
"I know the way to his study."
"We are not going to his study." Feywen nodded grimly and followed Ether while the rest of the Dark Elves gathered around her. They walked in silence and finally into a dark room. She took a deep breath.
"What is this place?"
"This is where you will be staying for a few days." Morgoth said from beside her. She didn't move. She was scared to. The torches were lit and she saw two stone pillars with chains on them. She looked on the floor and saw runes of dark magic. She turned to run from the room, but the Dark Elves behind her stopped her. They dragged her to the pillars on Morgoth's orders and chained her to them, forcing her to be on her knees. She glared at Morgoth.
"What the hell is going on?" She demanded.
"As you know, I need to marry a full blooded Elf to be free of the bonds the Valar placed upon me many centuries ago. I have chosen you to be my wife and queen."
"I am not a full-blooded Elf, remember? I am an Elandili."
"Yes, I know what you are. And I have the remedy for that. That is what this room is for."
"What are you talking about? There is no spell that will turn me into an Elf from an Elandili. The blood will always be there."
"Ah, but you see this book." He held up said book. She had seen it before. It had been on a pedestal in the library. She had briefly wondered what had happened to it earlier before she started looking for the answers she needed. "This was bound to me when the Valar placed their bonds on me. In it is a spell that allows me to take your blood from you."
"Take my blood?" The realization of what he was saying dawned on her and crushed her at the same time. He was going to take her mother's blood from her, making her a full-blooded Elf. "Alu, Vilya, get out of here! Now! I don't know what will happen when he does this. I don't want him to capture you and find out how to destroy the shields I have placed. Go!" Feywen looked at Morgoth, keeping the fear from showing in her eyes. The earth shook beneath her as if wanting to protect her. She wasn't sure if she could keep the ritual from happening, but she would try. She would create a shield of her own around her and save herself from his plan. She hoped. Outside, Eärendil shone brightly, as if trying to give her strength.
