Thank you for your reviews. I always love reading them. They give me ideas. Enjoy!
"It's so dark outside. It's been getting darker every day for the past few weeks. Since Kemen and Naur left with Vilya. Has something happened to Feywen? Vilya wouldn't say. She just seemed extremely agitated and demanded, I assume, that Kemen and Naur go with her."
"Glorfindel," Glorfindel turned and looked at the white wizard who was standing at his door. "It's time to go." The Elf nodded and picked up his travel worn pack and Nardin. The two walked in silence until they reached the stables. "Something is troubling you."
"I never told you, but when Lithwen left, I sent Vilya and Alu to protect Feywen. Kemen and Naur stayed with me since they couldn't hide as easily as their sisters. A few weeks ago, Vilya came and then all three of them were gone. Vilya only spoke to me long enough to say hello and then I couldn't understand her words any longer. After that, the three of them left. Something has happened to Feywen. I'm just not sure what it was. But Vilya seemed agitated, as if Feywen needed more protection than just the wind and water."
"Do you remember what I told you, when Feywen's Mortal blood was stripped from her?"
"You said a lot of things that day."
"Do you remember what I told you would happen if a poisoned jewel was bound to her?
"You said she would turn into a Dark Elf, slowly."
"I'm not sure what that process entails, but you have to believe that it is not a pleasant one. From what I have been told and from what I understand, for one as pure as Feywen, the process is very slow going. Being Celebrant's granddaughter, she embodies the purest magic of our kind and in Middle Earth. That will offer her some protection. But the longer Morgoth is free, the stronger he becomes. And the stronger he becomes, the stronger his bond with his people becomes. That includes Feywen now that she is bound to him through marriage."
"Are you trying to tell me that the changes are starting to be seen?"
"That is exactly what I am telling you. The shields Feywen placed protect those within in them from Morgoth's shadow and his black magic. Feywen does not have that protection. She knew the risk she was taking when she left the four of her spirits with you. Her spirits also know that they can protect her if all four of them are present. They can create a shield similar to these to protect her for the time being."
"You don't sound sure they can succeed."
"Every second she is tied to Morgoth, the stronger his bond to her becomes and the more influence his dark magic has on her. I have hope, but it is a fool's hope. You have to be prepared for what might happen.
"Such as?"
"She may not survive." A chill went through Glorfindel as Lithwen's words return to him. She had said that Feywen would not survive the war. She was being spiteful then, but hearing Gandalf say much the same words, he feared that it would become true. He mounted Asfaloth and they rode out of the stables to join the men on the field.
"Thank you." She whispered as she lay curled beneath her blankets. She had stayed in bed most of the time since the day she killed Ether. Morgoth and Anil have both tried to see her, but she would ignore them. When she did leave, all the other Dark Elves would stay away from her. She was more powerful than they. And now that she was turning into one of them, they feared her because she was the queen. Of the prisoners, only Galadra still came to her. The woman took her job seriously and she was the only one who could comfort Feywen. She seemed wise, almost as wise as Galadriel.
"Feywen," it was Galadra. Feywen reached out of the blanket and beckoned the woman forward. "It's time for supper. I was hoping you would want to eat something more than just a simple broth." Feywen poked her head out from beneath the blankets. Galadra smiled warmly and nodded to the tray in her hands. The smell of roasted meat made her mouth water and she sat up. "By the Valar!" Galadra exclaimed and Feywen's smile faltered, sure that she no longer looked like her kin. "You've been starving yourself. You're clothes are practically fall from your body!" Feywen had to bite her lip to stifle the laugh that wanted to pour from her mouth. Galadra smiled. "Feywen, you don't have to fear that I will turn from you. You are no Dark Elf and you are not becoming one. I have told this to the others. They have been told not to come near you by the Dark Elves because of what you did to Ether. The others don't think that you killed him out of bloodlust, but that you were defeating an enemy that was in your way."
"Thank you, Galadra." Feywen took a bit of the food. "But I did kill him in cold blood. In a way. It was like I wasn't my own person anymore. While I was fighting, all that filled me was the feeling that if he couldn't hold his own in a sparring match, how can he be expected to hold his own in battle. When he slipped, I didn't think about giving him the chances I as I had before."
"Feywen, look at me." Galadra's voice took on the tone of a mother talking to her children. Feywen looked up. "That was not you. That was Morgoth working through you. You are still the same woman whom I nursed back to health. You are still the Champion of Middle Earth. You are still the Lady Celebrant. No matter what he does to you, he cannot take that away from you." Galadra reached into her pocket and pulled out a gold necklace. Feywen's breath caught in her throat as the woman gave the locket to her. Feywen's hands were shaking as she turned it over and saw the inscription.
"To my beloved Feywen. So our hearts may always be together. Glorfindel." Tears filled her eyes as she opened it to see the pictures of her mother and brother. She closed it and looked at her. "Where did you get this?"
"An army arrived outside the Black Gate last night. I managed to sneak out. I remember you telling me about him. I found him with several noble looking men, most of them were Elves. When I was able to talk to him, he gave me this to give to you with his promise that he would come for you. To be strong. His is coming for you. He suspects what is happening and hopes this will counter Morgoth's black magic." Feywen smiled and slipped it over her head. She could feel his love for her radiating off the gold hearts. She hugged the woman, knowing how much she risked to see him for her.
"It's time." She said silently as she continued to eat. "It's time that I end this."
"But Feywen," Kemen protested, "you'll die. You can't keep the jewel and you can't heal it."
"I know. I'm ready."
He stood at the front lines as the gates opened. Morgoth had approached them last night after Galadra had left. He had demanded their surrender in return for their lives. All of them had refused. They had come too far to turn away from Feywen now. He took a deep breath and drew Nardin. He could feel Feywen's strength in it and the strength of her grandfather. "Lord and Lady Celebrant, help me this day." He prayed to her grandparents. "Help me save your granddaughter." He took a deep breath and saw the Dark Elf that led the army of Dark Elves and Balrogs. It was a woman. But that didn't matter among Elves. If you could prove yourself, you were given a command. That was how Carolani had become a captain many years ago.
Gandalf was next to him. "Do you think you will see her?"
"I know I will see her. It's only a matter of here or in Mandos." Gandalf nodded and the Dark Elves ran towards them. He drew Glamdring. Glorfindel looked at him and then ran forward. Aragorn followed right behind, followed by Gandalf. Legolas and Gimli charged ahead as well. Éomer shouted a charge and the thunder of the Rohirrim was heard. Soon, all their forces were charging into the fight. "Please let me be right."
She grabbed her sword and walked into the room across from hers. He wasn't there and neither was his crown. She knew that he had gone to the forces camped outside the Black Gate and demanded their surrender. They had refused and chose to fight. She knew she had to destroy the jewels before it was too late, before too many of them died. She had noticed the Dark Elves were stronger than they had been before her marriage to Morgoth. She knew that it had something to do with the bond she had with him. He was their king and creator. Being his wife, and queen, she could only assume that her strength was now also flowing into the Dark Elves that served under his command.
She walked into the throne room, thinking to cut through to his study or to her old tower. He would be in either so he could watch the battle. She knew she would have to fight him in order to steal his crown. "You should be outside the gate, commanding our forces with Anil." He said smoothly from the throne. She smirked.
"You truly are gracious. You have saved me the trouble of having to find you."
"And why have you been looking for me?" She turned to face him, drawing the sword at the same time. The blade was darker, but the hilt was still gold. He was standing now, his own sword in hand.
"It's time to finish what I came here to do. What my grandparents started. It's time to end this. It's time to end you."
"And you know how to do it. I should have hidden the books mentioning your family. But I was being kind. I guess that was a mistake as well."
"The mistake you made was coming out of your hole."
"Feywen, Feywen, Feywen," he sighed, "you know that to destroy me, you have to destroy the jewel I am bound to. But even then, my evil is not banished entirely. It is in the jewel you also wear. These jewels keep us alive. If you destroy them, we both die."
"It's a sacrifice I am willing to make."
"Is that so? Say you do manage to destroy my jewel and you get to go back to your first husband. Can you still make that sacrifice? Can you still kill yourself to ensure that I am truly banished forever?"
"Of course I can."
"I know you would, if I killed him. But what if I left him alive just for you. You'd be able to take him to your bed, as long as you came to mine once in a while. But he would be alive for you to love. You would be alive for him to love."
"At the cost of leaving you alive."
"But you would have the one you truly loved." His eyes fell on the locket around her neck. He smiled. "It is obvious that he cares about you. As long as you lived, I doubt he would mind that I lived as well. We could all live together. You would have your husband and still be my wife. Our children would have two fathers in their lives and mother who loves them all dearly."
"But the curse," she whispered.
"Gone since you first stepped foot into this castle. As long as I am alive and you are married to me, the curse has no effect. You can have children with the man you love. You can have that family that you have wanted since you sailed to Valinor. All I ask is that you also join with me." Feywen lowered her sword and looked at his offered hand. He was giving her the one thing she wanted. A small voice inside her was telling her that he was lying. That he would kill Glorfindel at the first opportunity. But a darker voice was countering it. Saying that if he killed Glorfindel, then she would kill them both. It was a win-win situation for her. Morgoth only won if he kept Glorfindel alive.
"Would that be so bad? I would live and be with Glorfindel."
"Don't be stupid!" A familiar voice yelled at her. She didn't turn to face him. "Glorfindel will not want you if you turn against him now! If you turn against the people you have sworn to protect! You must kill him and be rid of him!
"But that would mean that I also have to die."
"And you said you were willing to! From the moment you walked into Mordor for a second time, you have known that you were going to die! You must rid this world of Morgoth's evil! If you don't, another Sauron will rise." Feywen nodded slightly and looked at Morogth. Fire pulsed from her body and created a ring around them. He took a step back when he saw the fire in her eyes.
"If that is what it takes to end this, then I am ready." She whispered and flew at him. He jumped down the steps and met her blade. The battle had begun.
And thus begins the beginning of the end. I want to say a quick thank you to Elves are Awesome who suggested the temptation. I hope it lives up to your expectations. The voice, by the way, is that of her grandfather, not Aragorn. Thanks for reading and please review.
