Regret
Remus/Neville – Father Son
"We couldn't have known Remus," Dumbledore said sadly as he gaze fell upon the unmoving figure on the bed, "We couldn't off done anything if we did know."
"I should have seen the signs," Remus groaned into his hands, "I promised…I promised them both…"
"Remus," Dumbledore said as he tried to place a comforting hand on the werewolf's shoulder only to have it shrugged off, "You didn't know. Please don't think back and regret your actions for you couldn't have known."
"I should of done something," Remus said, his voice full of regret, "I promised Harry on his…I promised."
"Remus you did fulfil your promise to Harry," Dumbledore said as he tried to lighten the mood, "Neville…his in a better place now…"
"It's not that," Remus said as he whipped his tears away, "I promised Harry that as I…couldn't…adopt him I'd…"
"Adopt young Neville," Dumbledore said with a sympathetic sigh, "Yes, well you saw Neville as a younger you didn't you?"
Remus stared at unmoving form beneath the white bed sheet, "He was more than that Albus, he was like…he was going to be my son, my baby boy…curse that old woman, curse her."
